    Looks good.
    Most stripped threads are done with a torque wrench - if your wrench has a maximum setting of over 35 ft-lb, you shouldn't use it on the oil filter. Contact cleaner is wasted on oil cleanup and it's tough on finishes; a rag moistened with charcoal starter (which used to be sold as "cleaning solvent") works great. Lube the whole o-ring (v lightly) not just the front face, it's not the same as the captive rectangular gasket of a spin-on. I just changed the oil on my DR, I'll change it again after the TAT. 2.5 qt is a little much (perhaps because the oil cooler retains some) but I've had no trouble, and I probably won't have to add for the whole trip.

    ...despite some possible errors ^^, I still subscribed and gave thumbs up. This was a good effort. However as always a little knowledge can be dangerous as described below. I do like RMATV, and buy a lot of stuff from you guys. I write this below to help out the less-initiated amongst us....
    Like some comments below... there are mistakes made here! It is sad that less than good info is shown, ( One must be careful when getting info from the web) which result in not so pleasant results. First, a torque wrench can strip bolts when used for this. You have to know what you are doing....big time! Also, how many people get their torque wrenches calibrated every year! Second that spray cleaner has a real good chance of ruining the finish. They are different cleaners. So be careful and test a spot that you don't care if the paint/ finish is messed up. If you do your own work, you should have what you need. A small bit of mineral spirits on a rag could get off light grime. I never let my DR650 get that dirty however. If it does, I wipe it off with a damp soft rag, or if real dirty, low pressure rinse of with open ended garden hose. Pre soak dirty engine with 50% simple green. Easy peasy, and relaxing time! S100 is good stuff, but it is a caustic and can mar some finishes. Its is tough on grime but is also tough on paint and metal.... it needs to be flushed vigorously and for long time. After 40+ years as master certified auto and BMW tech, restored many old bikes & A & P mechanic with a pilots license.. I learned a few things. If you want to learn how to work on bikes, look up www.youtube.com/@AllenMillyard. Truly one of the best in the world today. Another great one was Burt Munro. Sadly he is no longer with us.

    Came to confirm what others have said about too much oil. It’s true. 2.5 quarts is too much despite what the manuals say. 2 quarts in this scenario is the proper amount.

  • @felipetejeda7545

    2.5 L is too much, factory manual says if you are replacing just oil than 2.3L, if filter use 2.4L. However that is still too much, try it yourself and you will see the oil line is completely full and above the full line. Fill with no more than 2L and see for yourself, It is impossible to get all of the used oil out so 2.5L will have you FAR above spec. Better to be slightly under than over. Fill 2L and then adjust as necessary.

  • @zebtqb1
    @zebtqb1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Are you sure 2.5 qt is correct? the most i have ever needed in mine is 2.2qt to get it to the upper half of the sight glass.

    • @SalisOK
      @SalisOK 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you started the engine after? run in for 10sec or so then check the level.. mine drops from max to min after

    • @zebtqb1
      @zebtqb1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it will always be at the minimum line immediately after running. I always check my oil level 30 seconds to a minute after shutting the bike off.

    • @NzJohny
      @NzJohny 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your right. The stated oil capacity is about 200 ml to much. Mine is always full at 2100 mls. Even aftet filter change and 20 mins of draining

      @hughfranklin5503 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The link in the description will take you to the Suzuki oil kit which includes all necessary parts for the oil change. If you want to get the o-rings by themselves you will need to enter your bike in the OEM parts finder and look under the "oil pump" section. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-parts/Suzuki

    Is it possible to pre fill the new oil filter with oil before installation?

    • @mr.terwilliger5728
      @mr.terwilliger5728 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      not a concern because: The filters sole purpose is just filtering, it has no direct affect on lubrication. within 5 seconds that filter and hausing is saturated with oil

  • @ynotjf
    @ynotjf ปีที่แล้ว

    My manual says run the engine then let sit about 1 minute, fill oil to TOP of sight window (upper full mark), not the middle..

    Nice video !!just have one question,when you tight the bolts you can fix and tight with tools in Nm??? Or only in Inch??Tnx alot 👍

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You sure can. Just find do the conversion needed from ft-lb to Nm. For example on our bike the 7 foot pounds for the oil filter cover bolts are 9.5 Nm and the drain bolt that was torqued to 17.5 foot pounds is about 24 Nm.

      Use a dollar store turkey baster to suck out any over fill through the top filler hole.
