Nothin' better than the whole family fishing together. I envy you all. My kids are all grown and scattered and I don't get to do this anymore. What a great time. God bless you all.
A sculpin is a type of fish that belongs to the superfamily Cottoidea in the order Scorpaeniformes. As of 2006, this superfamily contains 7 families, 94 genera, and 387 species.
I love surf fishing, I take my gear allover . I would fly up there from ohio just to catch halibut . Great video and that sundown was outstanding. Thanks
Love seeing a family actually together doing stuff..... lol, doesn't matter what it is really but being together. I'd like to be catching those flat fish..... flounder where I'm at but there are many types a flat fish & I bet those are clean tasting? Thanks for the adventure >> peace & GB ALL
Man I wish you guys were able to put out more videos. I really enjoy the content you have shown. When I watch your video it makes me wish I was younger so I could travel up to Alaska and do some of what you are lucky enough to do. Keep up the great work. Stan
Things are slowing down since summer is over. I will probably be able to get more videos out as we move into winter. I have at least 4 on the editing table
The first video I ever watched was last winter. I was so concerned and disturbed that they 'made' their child go onto the back deck without proper snow gear to push snow off the railing of the deck and make a snow angel. Oh boy, did I leave a comment expressing my horror and sadness over this terrible thing. Well, they answered my comment in the kindest, gentlest way. They assured me that their child wanted to do that and was not forced. By the end of the exchange, I wound up subscribing to their channel. This is a truly beautifully blessed family; and, they hold gratitude for what they have, share, and experience together.
Outstanding, looks like you have a wonderful family. There's nothing like enjoying the outdoors, especially fishing, as a family. I got lucky with my boys' mom, hope they meet girls like your wife and daughter. Your crew looks genuinely happy to be out and they handled those fish perfectly. Well done dad.
We’d fillet and release all our sculpin and make the most delicious fish tacos. Actually one of our favorites! Avoid “Contempt prior to investigation “!!!
All you need is a nice camp fire and throw the skate on top of the embers and you have bbq smoked skate..Just peel the skin, and rub some butter..delicious!
The only way the kids are going to learn to set the hooks is by letting them do it, misses or not dont take the rod away from them or they cant learn, nor states sizes about who is smaller, its also very rude and a great eay to turn them off(especially girls) fishing with you.
Best to take that on a case by case basis. It all comes down to who the kid is personally. It can be just as much of a turn off due to boredom and frustration if they miss fish after fish as it can be to do everything for them.
Nothing wrong with learning in stages. If they never got the excitement of bring in a fishing and have to fight through hard part first. The time, patience, rigging, locating and technique. Kids never develop an interest to try.
Haven't seen yall in awhile good to watch one of your videos, I'd love to see a small game hunting video from you guys again loved it when you guys would post hunting regularly
Looks like fun! I love ocean fishing. Where is your location for this fishing adventure? I know it's Alaska. But really what is your location for directions.
Ready? I used to head down to the mouth beach of ninilchik every Memorial Day weekend to get kings! Camp in my truck, huge pallet bonfires and catch fresh kings on the incoming tide with vibrax spinners before you were born! Just saying.😉👍
Was the first fish a stargazer? some people call them monkfish. If so, that was a shame not to keep it, they are some of the nicest tasting fish in the sea.
@@HowtoAlaska Yeah, if you like river and lake fishing South Island is the go to. There is trout up here too of course, just less rivers and more people. It is the sea fishing up here in North Island. And with the waters warming, in our Far North we have a lot of tropical fish like Mahi Mahi and the billfish turning up even more than they normally did. The charter rates are not prohibitive. Of course, one hesitates before one mentions the scenery, to one of our Canuck cussies . . . 🤣 We do have 44 volcanoes in Auckland though ! And you can walk a little way into one of them.
I miss the fishing in the cook inlet. My 11 yr old son fashioned a pole out of a stick and some random tackle he found laying on the beach, and caught an ugly (irish lord) in about 5 minutes. It was the time of his life! Lol.
They are ok imo, but too much work to clean. there is a reason they are considered a trash fish...the competition is steep here for table fare compared to fish like halibut and salmon. Here is the link to a video we did on the subject th-cam.com/video/T66_F1Q9bYI/w-d-xo.html
Btw, halibut LOVE SCULPINS!. NEXT time, put a fillet of sculpin on the hook with a little bit of tail to make it flap in the currents. Thay also have that tough skin to stay on the hook longer. Ugly as they me be, the bigger ones make good table fare if few other fish are being caught. Small fillets, but just as tasty as the Sole. Baked, or pan fried Sole, with butter, pepper & a touch of old bay seasoning in a cast iron skillet on a campfire on the beach. Doesn't get much better....
No need to set the hook while bait fishing from the surf the fish hook themselves when they bend the rod over from the rod holder. Little sister will be out fishing you all soon.
Wow I've never seen a steak that big that looked like half a cow I'm sure you never bought that in BC Canada because that would have cost you just as much as your vehicle look good though myself I would have cooked it on a rack not on tinfoil tinfoil is no good for you so they say nowadays but isn't everything no good for you nowadays so what to do did you go out in someone's farm field and cut the hind quarter off a cow I like the taste of a smoky fire on my steak long as you're not burning cedar or evergreen all their firewood or probably your maybe got birch out there I don't know we'll also like cooking over an apple tree wood or cherry tree woods good but here we mostly use Alder to cook over I don't know where you are though oh Alaska figures everybody has more fun in Alaska seems like the best youtube channels are in Alaska what wasn't better health but definitely sell my place and went to Alaska they keep telling me my house is worth over 400 thousand that's because they want the taxes definitely not worth that much I'm only on a little city lot well it was a country lot but now it's in the city I only paid $9000 for the property back in 1990 never had a mortgage paid low cash that's the only thing I've done I think it's smart in my life😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋

We used to go Anchor river for King salmon fishing back in the day. Also went to razor clam digging to clam gulch. Really miss my old Alaska days.
I just loved the young ladies narration, she will be a fine fishergirl and show Mom and Dad how it's done!
Love the family vibes, lovely video

Hey man, I came across your channel and great to see you and your family enjoying fishing brother. Thanks!
Great job dad
Skate is good to eat, just got to know what to do with it in preparation.
Garlic butter skate scallops, krab dip, beer battered skate... lots of good ways to cook em!!
Good catch 😻👋
We have similar Flat fish in the UK called Flounder and Plaice and they're good eating indeed.
How God blessed you and your family. What a raw beauty! Amazing
I just saw some beautiful beaches for summer swimming and I also think that they are better than Greek islands and more safe...
Except the water is very cold and it has some of the strongest tidal currents in the world😬
This is beautiful...God blessings, for your family and you..🙌🙌
Nice and healthy

Wow,nice catches....i wishes that one day we good catch them here in the netherlands from the beach but, sadly no we only pay a lot for them here
This brings back memories that I miss so much.
Looks like fun! I love ocean fishing. Where is your location for this fishing adventure? I know it's Alaska. But really what is your location for directions.
Im interested in how you you would clean halibut. Unfortunately, i dont live in an area close to ocean fishing. Looks like fun.
Filled them, just like any other fish.
Their skeletal form is pretty normal. Their eyes just move.
Sole is much better eating than halibut. I love them yum!
Oh no, it's mushy as hell. Halibut has texture.
Memancingnya sangat menyenangkan
Камбала это хорошо!

Thufferin' Thocuttash! Sylvester would be on cloud 9,.Halibut!!
Skate wing is good eating
it’s OK in my opinion, a lot of work to clean and not as good as the fish were targeting. I’d eat it if we didn’t have the others as an option.

What is this drag thingy on the reel?
You should try the kasilof beach when its not salmon season combat fishing. Its pretty fun.

halibut is delicious and very expensive in the market😛
In Florida we call that a doormat flouder.
Don't turn your nose up at the Sculpins, they are very tasty.
Just an FYI Bullheads, or Irish Lord are very good eating.
Maybe try Homer or Clam Gulch.
They went fishing....just for the halibut. 😉
Are those of legal size? Your daily limit is 2 halibut with one being over 28 inches, the other being under.
That limit you are referring to is for charter boats, The bag limit for private is 2 any size
@@HowtoAlaska just making sure, I knew it was for charter boats.
You could at least let her set the hooks!
Have you ever experienced spirits in those extremely dark places on any of your adventures
Just the Spirit of God...even during the dark part of the year
"Spirits" are not real. Please come into the real world - for your children's sake, if nothing else. Thanks.
Halibut school in similar sizes. They have to because they'll eat each other if there's a big difference in size.
I've seen cannibalistic halibut when long lining . the 15 lb halibut that was hooked was fully swallowed by a 150 pounder
@@HowtoAlaska Unreal!
My friend held the record for halibot from shore with a rod. 611 lbs
Mount Redoubt?
I remember fighting a rock from a boat off deep creek for half hour before realizing it was the tide that me made think it was a fish.
Night fishing on the beach is excellent. Would be nicer with a warm fire.
amazing fishing guys and girls, meanwhile here in england all we pull out of our seas are illegal immigrants
I know they taste a little funny but at least you've got something to eat. 😂
Is there a limit on them, or minimum size. How do you cook them?
Catch and cook on the beach
