I really like your cat! I used to have an abyssinian and it was my companion for 15 years! I really miss my cat! I just got a Pimax Crystal light not too long ago and I really like it. However, eventually, I can see that I may have to change my facial interface after a while because these things don't last forever, unfortunately. That's why I'm interested in your video, right now!
They lived a long life! We're not sure how old my cat is since she wasn adopted stray, but believe she's somewhere around 12-14 right now. Kind of funny how often I get comments whenever she shows up in the video. Not even intentional, she just really liked my bed. Can't go wrong with some of the options here if you need extra comfort!
I had a crystal for a while, and I do think they should just include different facial interfaces and comfort accessories. It would save them money in returns etc. in the long run I think. They especially need to educate on facial interfaces thickness and pupil swim, as just a few mm off, can destroy the room 3d effect for me
Good stuff all around! Great minds think alike, as I shared my written comfort guide on Reddit this past week for Crystal & Crystal Light. All VR headsets need some comfort solutions and tweaking to get as comfortable as possible so this is a great source for folks to get some solid info! Keep it up Omni
I saw your write up! Pretty good and comprehensive one, nice to have something text based going over most of these accessories too since some people prefer that. If I hadn't already recorded and gotten close to done with my editing, probably would've thrown in a mention of it. With the right things you can make even something heavy as the Crystal feel good with the right weight distribution. That matters as much as the weight itself to a point!
The Pimax strap has been out of stock since launch, what I did was use an old Q2 halo strap I has and cut the ratchet strap off it, and made tiny holes in it, then used the Dmas screws to thread it, and it worked!
Big head here too, I found my solution for my head shape. Your reviews are so great, maybe my solution could help someone... VR Cover foam replacement 16mm for HTC Vive Pro fits perfectly on a Pimax Crystal Light. Despite my HUGE head (interpupillary distance 71 mm), it allows my eyelashes to no longer touch the lenses and have better clarity. In addition, with its absence of a "cap" that goes up on the forehead, no pressure on it and therefore better adjustability of the VR headset for my head shape. Got the Pimax Top strap too.
I came to the same conclusions as you, the only thing I would change is the order of getting the mods. For a first improvement, I would get the facial interface and spacers, because the default one lets you so close to the lenses that it causes eye strain, unless your face is very wide and you already get 2-3mm more far from eyes than me. Then, the top strap and then the counterweight. I didn't try your solution of the back padding, I didn't know you could do that, but I am not sure if I should get it because the back padding is not uncomfortable for me right now. The bad thing for me is that when I got the Studioform PU Leather facial kit with spacers, it didn't include the Index style one. Shit, I lost the opportunity to improve it even more.
You moved the top elastic strap on the crystal between above the top strap padding, I think the official recommendation is below. Did you try both? Oh and thanks for mentioning the back padding issues, glad I am not the only one! How did you attach the Counterweight?
I tried both and because I have to wear the Crystal so high up there's zero difference for me so thought might as well give the cushion the best contact i can. Probably should've mentioned that, but wanted to not go too far over 20 minutes for this video. If you can wear the thing the "right" way perhaps it'd make more of a difference. For the counterweight, depends! For most, you can just wear it the way the studioform creative website suggests, wrap it around the back of the top strap above the battery. If you have the LICHIFIT then you can wrap the bottom flaps around the counterweight if that feels like a better fit for you. It's what I use.
I already have the full Crystal Light set from StudioForm with Apache strap on the way. I know your review is mostly geared to VRC usage, but for highly active things like BeatSaber do you have one accessory that you recommend the most?
I'm not sure why you'd think this is geared toward VRC usage? I'm not a VRChat player, don't even really play VRChat except like twice a year during Vket or sometimes a friend really wants to show off something. It's not my thing. I mainly do a bit more active games with my Crystal like with Pavlov or Blade and Sorcery. Everything I said here still applies.
i'm abit confused about something, are you using any kind of forehead cushion? or are you saying that this "studiofrom tribute" gasket is good enough without it? great video thankyou very much very informative
Thanks for such a thorough breakdown of all these accessories!

I'm surprised they don't have an 11mm and 15mm set because the 8KX had that when it originally shipped.

That's a clever idea!

For perfect comfort, is the morph suit any help? 🤪
Definitely not in the summer, that's for sure!

a heat pump
I saw someone mod a face ventilation via a 3D-printed "Snorkel" for the 8KX, we need something similar for the Crystal 😀

The studioform one doesn't have a forehead cushion, yes.
Love the "touch grass" getup.
Cat.
meow
thanks for all the details
can you let the cat sleep a little the next time ? 😁
you hand gestures are cringe.
