Excellent video Charlie ,you and your friends must have a blast. Full of knowledge and you put the fun back in. "Carry on regardless, magic.

I'm Belgian and am in the process of building a "HO" layout based on the Belgian Railways (SNCB-NMBS) of the late 40s early 50s. ... I enjoy your videos, they teach me a lot ... I am 82 years of age, and this shows that it's never too late to learn... Thank you
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video Guy
Guy de Valk will you be making some videos of your Belgian Railways layout?
I’m confused. I don’t have a Belgium layout.
Chadwick Model Railway your next project maybe 😜
Great video as always Charlie, Started my 00 gauge layout when I retired 18 months ago after a 30 year gap from my last layout, and I just love it, It keeps me happy and that's what its all about.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Rod
Good to know that men in Britain are required to pump the drill twice as we do here in the states. Made me smile
It must be a bloke thing!
Hi Charlie.
Another great video I’m a 00 man returning after 30 years lots of changes in the model railway world since then. I started again because of my grandson kept asking nanny. If granddad has got the trains working yet, glad he did now
Richard
Welcome back, your imagination is primed.
Good show Charlie, got some great hints. I model n scale, but run HO (OO) on the San Diego museum layout....thanks for sharing Jack 👍😃
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video Jack
Great video Charlie, you could name a station “That will be the phone then” lol.
Now there’s an idea Colin
I can’t stop watching your videos
I’m so pleased that you enjoy them Ryan.
Hi Charlie
I retired about two years ago and last May I bought a Hornby starter set to amuse the grandchildren. Now I am completely hooked and have built the baseboards for a 14feet by 8 feet layout which will be (broadly) 1950’s Yorkshire themed with you and half a dozen other TH-camrs as my guides! Thoroughly enjoying my new hobby which I’m finding is about ten hobbies in one! Thank you for your very helpful videos.
Mike OO gauge.
Mike, it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.
I was just wondering why you were protecting against uphill movement when you turned the catchpoint round...senior moment averted!
I’m at that said age. I had a hearing test this morning!!
I was wondering the same thing at the start, but not because of the uphill movement but because of the closeness to the running line in the downhill direction.
Charlie, just wondering why you had a herring vest this morning, regards Bobby 'T'.
Because my hearing is rubbish!
Hi Charlie,
In response to your questions:
1.) I model west coast American railroads (BNSF/UP - The Colorado Joint Line) in HO;
2.) I haven't seen derail points in my travels, what I have seen are bright yellow metal "derail" devices, either portable clamp-on or a remote control devices, that stand up from the top of the rail and lift the wheel off track to derail the car if the car is traveling fast enough. Many times, the device will just stop the car from rolling further.
I enjoy your videos and enjoy learning more about railroad practices on the other side of the "puddle." Keep 'em coming, Bruce
What a great comment Bruce, and it’s interesting how various different countries operate the railway networks. Regards Charlie
Yes Charlie. I model in 00 Gauge
Subscribed ages ago and clicked Bell Icon
Sir, you are a star and I thank you for all your hard work in bringing your railway enthusiasm to infect us all who watch
Thanks Michael, I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel.
Hi Charlie. HO for this American. I really appreciate your channel for all of the great information that is easy to understand. Thanks.
Thanks Steve, I’m so pleased that you find the channel useful. Stay safe, regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie, David 00. I enjoy watching your videos and have enjoyed the development of your layout.
Thanks David, I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel . Regards Charlie
Currently planning my N gauge N Quay Harbour layout. Watching your videos doesn't help the time line but I'm learning a lot 🙂 Thanks. John
I’m so pleased you find the videos useful John. Regards Charlie
HO from across the pond. Love your videos. I’m in the process of figuring out my grandfather’s HO Layout he left to me & get it back up & running.
Good for you Levi, it would make him proud.
Hi Charlie, as a general tip when drilling your 10mm hole for the point motor arm. Drill an additional two 1.5mm holes in line with a sleeper so when viewed from underneath a line can be drawn to indicate the position of the point motor to ensure perfect linear arm travel. Regards, Gareth (O gauge modeller) Top video as always and don't slack humor.
An interesting point Gareth.
Hi Charlie. I'm an N-Scale modeler from Canada. I record your videos as they are released and watch them later on my breaks at work (the joys of having a phone with a micro-SD slot). Very entertaining stuff, please keep 'em coming !
Thanks David, you’re too kind
I model in 00 gauge using Peco code 100 for both my rail tracks and tram tracks, modelling the 1950s period, but no particular location, it's just a freelance layout. Possibly the only guy on TH-cam who is combining trains and trams in one layout.
Cheers for now Geoff
Thanks Geoff and good luck with yours
I enjoy watching tour videos to see how things differ between Britain and Canada. Here we call those Switch point derails. Normally seem on customer property.
Great nations, separated by a common language. Regards Charlie
Mick 00 and TT120. Great work as usual.
Thanks Mick, it’s great to have you on board. Regards, Charlie.
00 guage. Enjoying your videos as I rejoin the hobby and embark on a large layout that needs the shed to be built yet. Tremendous humour you have.
Thanks Robin, you’re too kind
@@ChadwickModelRailway At last I found where I made my comment and to find an answer. Thank you Charlie. My shed has not yet started but I have been making baseboard modules. Close to 30 meters made. I have chosen a all made to the same size system where barely any are the same. Sort of makes sence really!
OO gauge, haven't started it yet, but will be using your videos as my bible. Keep up the good work Charlie.
Thanks Neville, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it
I model HO/OO in Australia with also some HON3.5 for our 3 feet 6 inches. Catch points are very important and we have them even in shunting yards. Mainlines use them where a branch joins the mainline so I would put a tortoise motor on it as it will provide a little more Realism but Charlie it is your railway so it is your choice. Really good video and I have learnt a lot. Thanks Charlie.
You must be watching the whole of my back catalogue Alan! Stay safe out there mate. Regards Charlie
I like the old people approach to the solutions. You come across precisely to your audience. You could save a lot of the coplication with the wiring if you use Cobal IP pointmotors in stead as they each have their own decoder built in. Saves you a lot of wiring and do away with central placed pointcotrollers for each four pointmotors.
I do understand Henrik but but I try to make things a little simpler for the subscribers. Also Tortoise are quieter!
Charlie, you are the best thing on TH-cam hands down. You make us feel like friends and family. All of your videos are informative and entertaining. Having a new one of your videos pop up is like Christmas morning for me. I avoid commenting because I know you have better things to do than read and reply so I will avoid commenting from here on in unless I have something to contribute. Thanks so much for helping us Build our layouts better than we ever could without you!
Sam, it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.
Hi Charlie, I’m predominantly 00 Gauge (Peco code 100). I run mostly steam outline models of LNER, LMS and early BR stock.
I enjoy the construction aspect (including colour coded wiring) as much as operating at realistic speeds. Now on my 4th major layout and utilising MERG CBus. for point and signal control of my analogue controlled trains. I’ve been in our wonderful hobby 74yrs and still learning, as others have correctly remarked. To that end I so enjoy your videos both for the content and your relaxed style of professional presentation. Best Regards, Tony 🚂🚂
Thanks Tony, it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.
Hi Charlie i'm Vinnie from across the pond in Maryland and I model HO DCC. The New York & Atlantic Railway. Love your videos.
Thanks Vinnie, i’m so pleased that you enjoythe channel.
Mr Bishop, I never had you down as a model railway buff. Hope you are well. George Forman. Really useful information.
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie.
Another quick suggestion that just occurred to me. You have numbered the tortoise motors, which is great. Might be helpful to label the wire going into the white boxes with the relevant number also to make tracing faults easier.
A good tip, the corresponding labels are on the DS64s. 😜
Was Hornby 3 rail, then OO 2 rail, then EM4 and for the last 20 odd years N gauge and now dedicated to N Gauge!! Formerly custodian of Moorcock Junction and now owner of Armathwaite, my now retired exhibition layout.Great video as always. Cheers, Bob
Thanks Bob, great ancestry
Hi Charlie, if you put that bright LED inspection lamp on underneath the board you will produce a pin point of light through the hole in the point that you are trying to poke the actuator arm of the point motor through. It makes it a bit easier.
Cheers
Charlie
A useful tip Charlie, thanks.
00 gauge thank you for the incredibly helpful guidance.
Thanks Mick, regards Charlie
Thanks for another update on your track work Charlie. I am mainly into OO scale, but do have some HO and a small collection of N gauge rolling stock too.
Thanks John.
Hello Charlie, Mark here from the States. Enjoy your videos very much. I do N gage, but nearly all your information is useful to many scales.
Thanks Mark, I’m so pleased that you found them interesting.
Mark..N scale. Always enjoy your videos! Thanks

Thanks Mark
Thanks for the videos. I’m a HO modeler in the US.
Thanks Kent, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it
Andy OO gauge
Just started a new layout in purpose built 20ft x 10ft building at end of garden, finding these videos very informative, thank you.
Hi Andy, I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying them. Regards Charlie.
Interesting to see your methods. I've had a lot of problems with my Peco point motors and microswitches on my new 00 gauge Southern Region layout and was about to rip them out and replace with a more expensive but reliable make. However, I saw in one thread a recommendation that if the Peco point motor screws are loosened a little the motors will work better....and, blow me, it worked a treat! Now to paint the rails, apply ballast then start constructing the curved platform. Mine will be timber built with exposed supports and bracing. I'll construct it in situ and will constantly check clearances and gaps with long coaching stock as I glue the subframes in position. Being a branch terminus there'll be the one platform with a bay, so not as complex as on your mainline, Charlie. Your Channel is the top one for modelling as far as I'm concerned!
Thanks Mr D, it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.
You are an inspiration to us modellers Charlie, not only are you an excellent railway modeller, but have professional camera work up your sleeve, a great honest way of showing how it’s done & the capability of being a tv presenter. Raw & real are your videos complete with sound effects. Awesome.
This just might encourage me to pick up my 00 layout again gathering dust after I broke my leg last year = time out. Thank you 🙂
Thanks Dave and it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.

Soon will start constructing my second lay out. First one was started in 2007 and completed in 2017. PNG Division of the Texas and Pacific Railroad. Have found lots of tips, suggestions and items from you that are going to improve my next project
Thanks.
Thanks Stephen, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Good luck with your projects.
Retaining wall.
Excellent how-to video. Thx.
Thanks Frank
Anyone else think the camera click intro on this channel is one of the best intros on TH-cam? (edit: N Scale) Finally twigged why they call them ‘tortoise’ point motors!
Thanks, what a lovely compliment.
Keep up the excellent work Charlie. Really enjoying your approach and learning a great deal about the new technology. Like you I was lured back to the hobby by the ability to “drive” the trains rather than the track and the ability to have sound.
Building a small 00 TMD from the mid 70’s.
Thanks Paul and good luck with your project
I’m just starting a 00 gauge thanks for all your videos great help
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Mark
Hi Charlie, I enjoy the detail that you provide. I model in N scale and I seem to be one of the very few American modelers (I am in Alabama) who is creating a layout based on an English village. I have a number of Hornby "Lyddle End" buildings (over 150) and some wonderful engines and wagons. Just now beginning the layout and planning track.
Hi Joe. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video and good luck with your N Gauge project.
In all my years of interest in model railroading this is the first I’ve learned of catch points. Now I will have to incorporate one or two. Thanks Charlie. By the way, I model HO, themed Berlin between the wars.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video Keith.
Greetings from Texas, Charlie. I'm getting back in HO model rail roading after 40 years. I'm sticking with DC power for now, but may join the DCC world in the future.
Thanks for the great and informative videos.
Welcome home mate.
Hello Charlie, I appreciate this video was made some time ago, but you did ask you subscribers to just let you know what gauge we are modelling - I'm working with OO. I'm just at the stage building seven baseboards to support my first layout. It's a good job electronic media doesn't wear out. I am viewing your videos to a level of obsession that is probably unhealthy. Great job on sharing so much of your knowledge with the rest of us. Cheers. Steve
What a heartwarming comment Steve, good luck with your layout. Regards Charlie
An alternative to a catch point (I hope you didn't forget the sign for a catch point) is a trap point leading to a sand drag or short siding. There were 2 catch points on the line through the village I grew up in but both are now long gone since the end of unfitted or partially fitted freight trains heading up to Skinningrove steel works. Ex-OO now an N-Gauger.
Hi Neil, thanks for the useful tip about the sign.
Take care, regards Charlie
Another great video Charlie, OO Scale BR Blue era up to modern-day on a DCC System.
Thanks Martin
Evening Charlie
Great video showing how it's done 👍
00 Gauge here mainly set in the Steam era late 50s well into the 60s but I do sneak a few BR Blue's in and the odd Intercity Livery,
Thanks Mick and I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it
I'm HO here in the states! Love your videos. About a year ago my God Mother moved out of her residence where I had a few boxes stored. I'm 61yrs old. In the boxes was my fathers model trains, the Sabbath Mountain Railroad. It was packed up in 1974 when I was 11. Much to my delight several of his locomotives ran just great straight out of the box 50years later. Including a shay that was one of my favorites. Now I'm educating myself and have built a table for the next version of the S.M R.R. I look forward to your next video! I want to go DCC while still running a few of my dad's DC locos. I have to figure that out...
Thanks Bill, I’m so pleased that you enjoy my videos. Good luck with your discovery, what a great project.
Regards Charlie
Hi I model 00 gauge
I love your videos they inspired me to get into modeling
What a heartwarming comment Rees.
I really like having your videos in the background whilst I work on my 00 layout.
A rewarding choice, I hope.
Here in the USA, we typically use rail mounted derails to protect the main line. My gauge is 1 inch to 1 inch-I currently volunteer with a street railway and previously worked ten years for a heritage railway.
Thanks Akan, in the UK we refer real railway scale as 12 inches to the foot!
Hi Charlie, I'm in the track planning phase of an HO railroad, my first in over 40 years. A lot has changed since I was 12. Your videos have taught me many things about the hobby, mainly to not remove the fun out of it by taking it too seriously. You are a good teacher and I love the humor in your segments.Thank for the time you put into this. Bob M.
Thanks Bob and it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.
Hi Charlie. Always enjoy your videos. You asked for indications of what your viewers model. I am a student of New Zealand Railways on the sixties and model in S scale (3/16” to ft). This means much scratchbuilding and kit building with little off the shelf. The journey is what it is about at the end of the day as with much in life. Cheers, Kevin from Lower Hutt, NZ
Thanks Kevin and good luck with your project
Hi Charlie, I model OO gauge, steam era, DCC (JMRI on Raspberry PI) and 9g servos on MERG mounts for my points.
Very engaging video as always, keep up the good work.
Regards Barry
Thanks Barry I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it
Hi Charlie, I'm Ian Kirkman, an 74 and I model in OO Gauge BR NE Region around the demise of steam and start of Dieselisation.. You recommend Radio Shack wire strippers in this video. Others may have told you already. but Radio Shack of Fort Worth Texas, went bust in, I believe around 2015. They had originaily set up the Tandy stores franchise in the 1970s or thereabouts. Tandy was where you probably got your wire strippers as they sold lots of Radio Shack stuff. They had been struggling with their electronic parts business but were doing quite well selling mobile phones. Apparently this came to the attention of one of the major mobile phone companies (I think it was Vodafone) who bought Tandy and shut them down, acquiring the mobile phone business and discarding the struggling electronics supply side.
You will probably be aware that Maplins also ceased trading in the last couple of years so now there are no electronics supply chains remaining (unless you know different). so we fall back on Farnell (Leeds), RS Components (Rugby?) or ebay and Amazon??
Hi Ian, Many thanks for the info.
Yes you're right, these strippers are indeed made by RS Components.
Regards Charlie
N Scale Amercian here. Loving your work From NZ
Thanks Nameless Kiwi!
@@ChadwickModelRailway Matt sorry .
Another chilled out but informative & timely video, thanks. I have some Marcway catch points to build up and never really understood what they do, so your explanation and prototype pics were a great help. I also picked up that Woodland Scenics riser pack (x2) at a train fair over Xmas for a great price so I now need to backtrack through your videos to see how you installed it. Plan is to use it for a raised HOe logging line up into the forest to give some depth. Looking at all your motors and decoders under the board (like mine), I did muse on how far away this all was now to thedays I had a 6x4 board with cotton pulls for the points with bolt nuts on the end to pull them....the days of when necessity (and lack of money) was the mother of invention. Cheers
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video and good luck with your project P.
N and oo and your videos are a straight go to when I’m struggling
Thanks Craig
Great videos Charlie. I model in N Gauge. Just beginning the layout and looking forward to looking at more of your videos, I am learning so much.
It’s great to have you onboard Adrian.
By the way, I have been a subscriber for a wee while now amd really enjoy and learn from your output. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you!

Thanks Scott, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and hopefully you’ve subscribed too.

Thanks Clint
I am new to model rail way and have a 00 set with Dcc to start me off I have limited space so will be modeling a branch line . But I find all this bus wire and dropper wirers all a little daunting at the moment so enjoy you updates very informative and helpfully. Stay safe.

Starting off again in N gauge. it's been 30 years very excited.
That’s great news, go for it Randy.

Hi Charlie, really enjoy your videos - HO Scale - Code 100 here! Hi from Houston, Texas!
Thanks Jeff and I’m so pleased that you enjoy them
Hi Charlie, I'm modeling in H0 scale. As I am living in the Netherlands I mainly have Dutch, Belgian, German and Austrian rolling stock from Fleischmann, Roco, Trix, Lima. Do have one British locomotive and carriages: The Harry Potter train (from Trix). Mainly due to my children who are huge fans of the young wizard :)
What a great selection Jan.
Hi Charlie, I found your channel by doing some TH-cam searches on getting my old childhood HO model train up and running again after 40 years or so. It's just an old Tyco, but I thought my daughters would enjoy seeing it run. I'm blown away and I'm hooked on watching your videos. While I'll never have anything even remotely like your layout or your train sets, I enjoy watching a man who knows what he's doing build things like that. You pay great attention to detail, but as a compliment, you do so by not being annoying about it. For example you spread glue to do the job, but it doesn't have to be "just so" - like perfect thickness and only to the perfect width and such as the track. Meanwhile I can appreciate the tidiness of your wiring! Man, that's incredible! I've subscribed and looking forward to seeing what you have next!
Thanks Kenny, it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.
OO Gauge for me Charlie.
I saw your chat with New Junction, I loved your logic for leaving in ‘that will be the phone then!’. For me, it makes your videos more approachable and more engaging than something that was polished up to perfect production values.
I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel Chrispy.
Great Video as always Charlie. I used to model in N Gauge, but following my father passing away a number of years ago I inherited a load of OO Gauge stuff (including re-acquiring a load of Hornby stuff I had as a child!!!), so I'm now definitely a OO gauge guy!
Thanks Al and good luck with your project
Hi Charlie, I'm just converting loft to create my OO Gauge layout...have purchased around 15 varied locomotives and rolling stock so far! Still in track planning mode also ( am considering avoiding first radius curves and sticking with second & third radius with maybe a fourth radius as passing loop!
Looking forward to the next stage...thanks for your informative videos!

Hi Ian, please avoid 1st radius at all costs.
