‘86 4Runner - we’ve had it in the family since 1989. Still runs good and body is in good shape.

The 22r and 22re is such a sweet little motor.

Dude nice rig and a rare one. I have an 89 first gen runner SR5. I’ve completely rebuilt the whole rig. 3.0 rebuilt also by me. Yeah I know nobody likes that motor but runs awesome with the 5 speed. Also have an 85 solid axle EFI EX- CAB MANUAL FULLY LOADED and pretty cherry for its age. Subbing to follow the build. Love them YOTAS.

Dan Dorris thanks man! Yea I’ve had a 3.0 5 speed before too! I loved mine, luckily no head gasket issues. Yea these Toyota’s are awesome! Keep following! Front suspension just showed up yesterday!

There is a 93 4x4 5 speed 3.0 engine close to me and great price too.. Might buy it, why don't people not like the 3.0 ?

Blown head gaskets is the complaint. They say because of the cross over pipe behind the heads causes it. I can tell you that this motor doesn’t make very muck low end torque. That’s my biggest gripe. Still like my runner though.

My 22re would start unplugged at -50. It was like a ghost town driving to work lol

Love the 80s into 90s 4Runners -- wanted one so bad when I was younger. Had to wait until '03 to afford one. A 4Runner's been my daily since then -- '15 TRD Pro currently.

I hope the build goes well! I've been upgrading whenever possible on my 99 3rd gen. It's also a 5spd with 4x4. Zero rust and 1st owner! I went with Dobinsons IMS shocks and their tallest springs in teal! Lol I want to upgrade to Tundra 199mm calipers, because I really like my 16" wheels! I also went with SPC upper control arms. The range is incredible! I can load my ride with tools and it handles even better, because the springs we're designed for steel bumpers and sliders. Those are future plans for my 3rd gen. Take care bro.

I have a rust free 1985 4runner SR5 5 speed sitting on 35's with 5:29 gears, trutrac up front and open in rear (will install electric lockers). converted rear drums to discs. 28k on new crated motor. (not jasper). still looking for the factory rear bumper, destroyed mine while backing up into Hickory tree (7in diameter). SR5 emblazoned on factory seats... power windows.

Do a tuneup before you do suspension. If there's a miss get the injectors serviced and cleaned, get oem plugs/wires, and cap/rotor. Thing will run even better.
