The story about the trash that truckers leave behind is TRUE. There’s a street in my town, about a mile long, plus a cross street also about a mile long . It’s on the edge of town . There’s a Love’s store, a Whataburger , a small restaurant, all 24 hours places. Truckers would park there a lot. Always full of trucks. Very convenient. Then the trash started. Someone would pick up the trash. They put trash barrels out there , IT DIDNT HELP with the trash being thrown out there. Eventually NO PARKING signs were put up all over the streets in that area. Regardless there went all the free , convenient parking for truckers. ALL BECAUSE of the trash left behind.

Exactly, right on point. Wherever trucks are able to park for the night or day, during their 10 hour break, they typically throw trash out the window of their trucks, along with the bottles they pee in out the window it all goes. Have some damn respect where you’re able to park for your 10 hour rest period. I’ve been there seen it many, many, many times. It’s absolutely totally ridiculous. No respect for their own selves, much less anyone else around. I’m not surprised one bit. Show some respect!!!

I only drove for about 5 yrs. before retiring. I wanted to see the country on somebody else's dime before I left the workforce. Anyway, the things I saw were really disgusting. Things like the day I was parked at a Pilot and saw a man pull up to the fuel island. He was at the closest pump to the door going into the Pilot. After fueling, instead of going inside to go to the bathroom, he waled over 100 yds. and peed between the truck and trailer parked next to me. I saw another man that was walking barefoot across the parking lot. He was wearing droopy, baggy, stained shorts, a torn and stained t-shirt, and his hair looked as though it had not been washed in 2 months. I wanted to start taking pictures of various drivers and lot lizards. I was thinking of making a coffee table book called "Truck Drivers and the Women that Love them". I finally decided to retire when I was sent out to retrieve an abandoned truck that someone had quit and left at a truck stop. I opened the truck door, looked inside, and immediately closed the door. I called my dispatcher and told him to send someone else because I could not stand to get in that truck. Much less drive it 750 miles back to the terminal. There are some drivers out there that could make the life of a hog look like high society.

So true. This also encompasses the homeless. They urinate and leave trash all over. I've been homeless, and there are fewer places to park and stay. The actions of one ruin it for the many.

The homeless in my neighborhood leave so much trash. There’s so many trash cans around. But they just toss it in the street. It gets cleaned up regularly but it drives me nuts. No one hassles them except the cops will tell the people in RVs to move on every few weeks. My neighborhood is as accepting and understanding of people on hard times as we can. A local church provides showers and bathrooms. There are two places they can get clothes and food. For teens there is a shelter, the adult shelter is in another part of town. Even a developer when he was bidding new condos said that if a potential buyer has a problem with the homeless they aren’t welcome. I don’t know if he actually mentioned that but he’s damn good at reading the room. Just walk your trash to the trash can. It’s free the spot you’re living in doesn’t need to look like shit.

There’s no need for that!! As a female trucker of 40 years, I have a similar setup in my truck with a reusable bottle from Walmart, small funnel and disinfectant spray. Toilet paper goes in garbage bag, disposed of when I fuel truck. Being menopausal, I don’t want to get up at 3am, get dressed, walk across a dark parking lot to go have a pee! I saw a head-on wreck on Highway 65 north of Clinton, Arkansas 15 years ago, near Route 110, where two elderly couples were traveling to Missouri. The old man driving fell asleep at the wheel and their car crashed head on beneath a Ford F-150 four wheel drive pick up truck. The truck was catapulted upward and landed on it's left side. The car was sheared down to about a foot and a half high. All four occupants had to be extracted in pieces out of the car. The car was front wheel drive with a V6 engine. I remember seeing where the lead head of the engine was sheared off where you could see the tops of three of the pistons down in the engine block. The engine head was likely knocked off against the front axle of the pickup truck. Highway 65 was closed down for 5 hours.

You have only scratched the surface of why truckers are not welcome in so many places. Here is my list.
Noise. Drivers going too fast across parking lots so that they can make a lot of noise with their engine brakes every time they take their foot off the fuel. Add to that straight pipes that add to the noise.
Pollution. How many drivers idle up the engine to run the heat or air conditioning - when it is not needed or justified. On a nice and otherwise quiet night, when people like to open their windows and enjoy the fresh air, here is a big truck running his engine at fast idle filling the air with diesel smoke and NOISE!!!
Then there is the trash. Go to ANY truck stop. Back into a parking spot. Now, walk to the back of the truck. It looks like a landfill with all of the trash all over the ground. Truck stop owners have to pay somebody to clean up that mess. The same at any Wal-Mart parking lot.
As a retired trucker, I have seen all of this first hand, and believe me, I would not want truckers anywhere near my property behaving like that.
    They make themselves unwelcome.

Oh, and I wanted to say: These are the SAME ONES that Pull Up and PARK at the FUEL ISLANDS, right next to the Garbage Cans, but don't throw away any Trash... Then they will stay parked there for an Hour and a Half while they go inside and eat, play games, etc... I would have said "Showered" but 99% of them are Foreigners and have NO CLUE what the Hell a Bath or Shower even is!.... Anyhow, then when they eventually do decide to move, they will throw their Poo Filled Grocery Bags, and Pee Jugs out the Window.... They are absolutely DISCUSTING!... They give all of us Driver's a Bad Name, so to speak!.... And don't get me started on their Driving Skills or their ability to Speak English which is needed to Communicate with just about everyone in the Business... Especially Law Enforcement in the Event of an Accident or Emergency!.....

I've been working around trucking for most of my life and some drivers are unbelievable.
I worked at a terminal in Massachusetts, and a long haul driver stopped at the terminal and shoved a months worth of garbage on the ground 10 feet in front of the dumpster.
The foreman filled his car with the dumpster and then put the car on the roof of the shop.
    Never did that again

There was a warehouse in Orlando that became a community drop lot with a bunch of owner op types using the place as their own personal parking yard and even leaving their personal cars there while they were gone on the road. Needless to say, it was recently cleared out and now nobody is allowed to stay there anymore and thats bad because Orlando has almost no truck parking anywhere unless you want to pay or drive a long way. 😢

I used to use a black 2.5 gal Delo oil bottle. I made a gasket out of innertube rubber for the lid. I would dump it in porta pottys or at rest area RV dump sites. When pulling into a shopping center use the truck entrance drive to the docks and see if there is room to park without blocking the docks.

I AM a truck stop cashier who has to do bathrooms and empty garbage as well.
I don't know where to start!!!!!
First off, what customers AND truckers do to the bathrooms alone is nothing short of depravity.
    Now let's talk about your pee jugs;
WHY do you NOT empty them on the football sized grass fields we have on both ends of our lot?!?!?!
    Urea is a grass FERTILIZER....
WHY do THINK it's okay to just throw your pee jugs IN the trash I must collect each day????
WHY do you let it FERMENT in your trucks before disposal?????
EVERY day I want to HURL when I do the truckers lot trash because SOMEONE not only is throwing human waste in MY garbages, but they didn't bother to tighten the cap. And I get all that fermented smell like a punch to my lungs. It's SO bad. It's right up there with rotten animal corpse. Your GAG reflex comes calling.

Based on my own observations over the years, this is a result of cultural "programming" for lack of a better term. People feel like they are "owed" by society (yes, the entitlement mentality) to varying degrees. And they feel oppressed by various authorities, and so the act of throwing out trash is, in their mind, one way to "get back" at society. This isn't aimed at truckers; this is everybody. We see the same thing from RVers parking on public land, and off-roaders. At least that's my take on it.

Looting is becoming such an issue its only a matter of time that they'll just go directly to the trucks. They don't want the liability so more and more stores are becoming a stop and drop and they are not allowing overnight parking. Sucks when your out of hours and told you have to leave, no more paper log books, now with up to date GPS tracking and real time cameras so if you fart in the wrong direction you're fired. Treated poorly, long hours away from home, crazy deliveries and ever higher expectations with dwindling profits. Large haulers are feeling it, small companies are running on E, owner op have all but given up. Taking pride in your work and quietly keep those wheels turning isn't a glorious thing anymore, high pay kept it afloat for a while but its past its prime. Best of luck out there and stay safe, keep on trucking

To scrub the inside of a bottle - not necessarily for this reason - you can put a little coffee grounds in there with enough water to put some weight behind the coffee and give it a good shake and the coffee will scrub it clean.
A dot of soap will sanitize it then, bleach would be kinda overkill once all the material has been removed.
