Thank you for this video. My altenator literally just went out last night and let me tell you I'm livid. I thought I could change it myself but I can't jack it up. So I hope I can get my mechanic to come to my car since driving it isn't an option.
FYI to all you car DIY'ers. I own a 2007 Magnum, 3.5L engine. All 3 bolts securing the Alternator were EXTREMELY TIGHT and difficult to remove. I used Penetrating Fluid and a torch to loosen the top bolt. You will need a helper when re-installing. I tied a small rope to the alternator, pushed it thru from the bottom (it is a VERY TIGHT fit), and had my wife support the alternator with the rope, while I aligned the bolt holes and installed the two bottom bolts. I also removed that black steel bar to have better access for the wiring. I have replaced several different alternators over 30 years, and this was a difficult one to change. If you need an oil change, you may as well do that too, since the bottom plastic engine cover is removed. And, check your Spare Tire air pressure too. Mine was 40psi, it should be 60psi. Total changeover time including an oil change was 6.5 hours.
Thanks have to do this on my wife's Chrysler 300 and was looking for some truth about actual work time needed to plan the day accordingly!! Thanks for the reality check..lol
I've done this twice. Use ramps to get the car 7 or 8 inches off the ground. It will take you a long time to get this done. It's not an easy one to change. If you're alone, use a small rope to support it when installing it. The rope will hold it, freeing up both hands to install the 2 bottom bolts. It is much harder to do, than what the video portrays.

I installed two 15’s kicker speakers an inside speakers in my 2008 charger, every since the only way stay on is if the jumper cables are connected to the battery, soon as my husband disconnects the battery cables my car turn off.. is this a alternator issue?
Looking 2:04 reminds me of something. Sometimes the dipstick (top yellow plastic portion) will break off at the top. This seems to be a somewhat common problem with the 2006-2010 Chrysler/Dodge cars. The old GM's of the 1970's, 80's used metal all the way through for their dipstick and they NEVER broke!
Test the battery and alternator with a multimeter. The battery should read 14.4v and the alternator should read right around there too. Or you can disconnect the positive terminal while the car is running, and if the engine cuts out then the alternator is bad. Just be careful not to touch the wrench to anything while your disconnecting the terminal.
I'm very troubled with adding the wrong fuel to Dodge charger later figured it was mid grade 89 I was supposed to get. Is this possibly why my car won't start. Or may I still need to install all power sources on vehicle.? Please help me find the source of my troubles bud?"
I'll save you 300$ - it's really difficult to see when you've got the car on a jack, but the positive wire coming from the battery has an eyeloop with a small piece of metal protruding from the base. It's critical that you seat that piece of metal correctly on the alternator's positive terminal and then tighten it. It took my mechanic 2 hours tracing wires to find out that the stupid thing was in the wrong way.

I wish you would have shown how you got the alternator back up in place, hold it in place, and start a bolt and it is hard to hold it in place, let alone have room to start a bolt under it.

I know. Couldn't get on it right messed up bolt head. Tried special tools then ended up cutting a slot in the end of the bracket so I could pull it out then the bolt spun out easily. Replaced it with one I had in my spares pile.

Rope isn't a terrible idea but this isn't a hard swap.

Keep the top bolt in a little bit so it doesn't just fall. Then take that out in the end and you can get the alternator in the from top too.
