  • This is episode 2 of my documentary series, Motherland, dedicated to my recent trip to Guinea. In this episode, I explore the mountainous region of Guinea known as the Fouta Djallon. This region was once a flourishing nation-state from 1725 until the end of the 19th century before falling under French rule.
The Fouta Djallon is characterized by its beautiful landscapes of rolling hills, deep valleys, and waterfalls. The region's climate is mild and temperate, which contributes to its rich agricultural productivity.
On a personal level, the Fouta Djallon is where my tribe, the Fulani, primarily resides in Guinea. It is where I spent my summers with my grandparents and cousins, where I feel a strong sense of belonging, and consider it my home.
During this recent trip to the Fouta, I wanted to visit places I had heard about as a child but had never visited. It was a journey not only to explore its natural wonders but also to reconnect with my heritage and the land that shaped me.

I came across your video today and it brought me to tears. My parents left Fouta Djallon when I was three years old and moved to the Gambia. I have never had the opportunity to visit Fouta Djallon.
Your videos are truly inspiring and beautiful 😍❤️
