What's weird and what I love about NMS is I almost feel as invested in Sean and the guys at Hello Games as the game itself. In 2016 we have faceless juggernauts in the gaming industry like EA and you just take for granted that they're only trying to make money. With this game Sean has let his passion drive through so much, he's captivated an audience and reclaimed the industry for the community. I really hope this could be a turning point in developers recognising that the key to big success isn't flashy cinematic trailers with endless explosions, it's creating an imaginative idea and putting across in a personal and relatable way.
Thanks for asking! I'm in a bit of a transitional period, recently finishing school and the game Dotflow (on Android). Here: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Dotflow.DotflowBeta&hl=en I've recently (over the past couple months), began work on a story-driven adventure game tentatively named For Home. Think 2D Life is Strange set in Japan. It's quite early on, so we aren't quite at the stage to show much off yet, but if you like, you can follow my twitter to keep up to date:@pichuscute0 I'll likely be updating in the next month or two with better ways to follow our progress!
+Benjamin Busche I'm 14 and I'd be interested in learning how to make games, are there courses you can take at University or college to learn how to code or model, I feel like because I didn't start learning sooner there's no hope.
I was going to buy this game just for the grass. Now I'm buying this game just for Sean. It's fresh to see this kind of honesty and passion from a developer.
one of the reasons I want to get this game is maybe not the game itself but the dream. as a 39 year old, I've been playing games since Atari. he made a game that I always wanted but didn't know that I did until he made it.
Looking at all the top comments "Sean Murray is a inspiration" " Sean Murray talking? Already liked the video." "Sean Murray take my money" hahahahahaha
+N85 and now after watching the whole thing...man, this guy is just awesome. I really hope for him that No Man's Sky is going to be exactly what he wanted it to be and much more. You can tell that this is his baby. Always so passionate about it. I can't wait. Already preordered the Limited Edition
+Jonas MG What No Man's Sky means to making RPO a reality is so exciting for me. That plus like making telephone calls through Minecraft..... Things like that are making me geek out a little bit :P
Ryan puts this guy on an absolute pedestal because of No Mans Sky and the game isn't even out. Put it back in your pants Ryan. He actually puts incredible amounts of pressure on this dude because of it. You can even hear him like "ahh well, the games not out yet sooo"
+BigdudeOP Also tell them your from Syria and have like 20 children, tell them that whilst speaking polish and your sorted, theyll even give you a nice house and free money.
Morphjom I live in the UK. You seriously don't know what your talking about if you think our government doesn't care about them. As soon as they're here they ARE indeed given homes and full benefits. There's little incentive for them to learn to speak English as they wont be deported for it. All they really need to do is head down to the job centre once every fortnight and "sign on". We've even housed a mass murderer in Oxford (I think) because he cried that he'd be killed if he was sent back.
IGN, please, get your freakin' audio right. Sean's mic is clipping and it's extremely annoying to listen to. Half of the time the audio in IGN's videos is bad.
Raymond Desamero to late, we ( unfortunately) have some guys crying "buuu its just a boring walking simulator" or "buu its going to get boring after one week" and so on....
sean u helpped me more thn any doctor ever has by making this game. you made my dreams come true i was so happy whn i found this game i was crying thank you and you're amazing
I've played all the Great space games back to old Elite. Elite Dangerous really is the best you can currently get. I'm still enjoying it a year later. But I can understand about the hours!! Elite D and and witcher3 have taken over my time. When am I gonna get to Fallout4 and GTAV...it's tough being a gamer :)
+wizehop Hiring a new sound guy is very redundant. Just point out what he did wrong, and let him learn from his mistakes. Why go through all the trouble of firing an employee, filling out the paperwork, and then having to hire a new guy, while you could just point out the mistakes, and let the sound guy improve on it? Yeah, I think that's better.
Sean Murray is my hero!!! I've waited all my life for a space exploration game of this magnitude and it's finally becoming a reality thanks to him!!! Power To You Sean and your Team!!!
+Drejj Technically he is. The game's pretty close to being done, and he made it. He literally created that entire universe. So technically, he and the rest of HelloGames are by definition gods.
+Violet Snow that's one of the coolest things about this game lol. The scale of it essentially makes them actual gods of their own universe. It's crazy how far game have come.
Wow. You can see how tired Sean is here. He must be so bored of talking about the same stuff and mentally and psychically tired from working on the game.
I had to smile when he was talking about his Amiga days, it was almost as if he was talking about me because I could relate to everything he said. What a nice bloke aswell.
Amazing interview! It got me glued to the screen for an hour. Sean Murray is an awesome guy, so down to earth. I thought it might be another annoying video asking Sean "what the game is about", but no... it was just a nice sit down. Good job IGN!
It's funny when he mentions family, and that his brothers/sisters are doing "far more important things", and "helping the world" not having realised that he is probably on the doorstep of inspiring a generation.
Sean is so inspirational, he has so many of the same things that we can relate to. Really great interview
+GodOfOaks how can someone average be average? he's either average or charismatic.
kevokoma by average, he means he's just like everyone else
Gabriel hahahaha
spurs4lyf2006 gotteeeeem
Gabriel Hahahahah! Shame his game was shit and he sold you a lie!
18 quintillion planets was inspired by the number of flannel shirts Sean Murray owns
+Marcelo Meinberg And hairs on his chin ;)
When you hate IGN, but you're running out of sean murray interviews
Hacky Sack lol
+Hacky Sack yep haha.
got me in one :/
running out of sean murray "lies" videos...
I'm dead 😂😂😂

even if people who don't like exploration games should buy it just so the big game developers get the message
very true.
+Tim Senna (timontheradio) Tim, I genuinely couldn't agree with anything you wrote any more. Well said my man.
***** Pleasure happy to articulate! Great community around this game genuinely
geromino97 Genuinely agree
1 hour? Nice!
+eNtaK Hi, I'm a subscriber. Also I think I asked you if you are going to play NMS and that is now confirmed :D
+Ante Blašković oh yes. without question
About damn time
+eNtaK Are you gonna make a series on your channel on this?
+TehKyrkis oh yes
God flooded their studio because he was jealous. He doesn't like competition.

You're going to Hell!
(LOL JK)
As an Indie dev, Sean is a huge inspiration. Damn.
+Benjamin Busche What are you working on and how far are you from finishing? Indie games are always interesting.
Thanks for asking!
I'm in a bit of a transitional period, recently finishing school and the game Dotflow (on Android).

Benjamin Busche That's awesome! Good luck on your development and future games.
If you came here for gameplay start from 1:09:25. It's awesome!

i clickt before checking ... must be new here
+Kai Ray Damn, that was a sick ship landing!
+Kai Ray Balari V again :/
the fact that he brought up Dune made me extremely happy, this guy knows sci-fi
this interview inspires me . . .
I know right?!?!!!!
+Milark codeacademy.com
+Sqygaming dissing kanye was easily the most inspiring part
+Cloud Strife +Cloud Strife hahaha. it felt like an achievement actually. imagine in real life, a pop up appears. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED "dissing kanye"
Lol. The irony.
I like how humble, down to Earth Sean Murray is, you never see him full of ego or anything.
lol
its so interesting listening to him talk about just him he seems like someone genuine and I think that's the reason I have high hopes for no mans sky
It's*
+Grammar Police Someone needs to get a life...
+Grammar Police when I was 12 I used to think correcting people's grammar was funny as well. Enjoy it while it lasts, I guess
+ASensiblePerson Enjoy it while it lasts, I guess.*
+RedHawkHD "Enjoy it whilst it lasts, I guess". * This is more formal. Now shut the hell up...
I was going to buy this game just for the grass. Now I'm buying this game just for Sean. It's fresh to see this kind of honesty and passion from a developer.
Sean Murray you're awesome.
+Orgoth Mcgee
agreed orgoth
you too.
+Sean Murray Sean Murray?
+Sean Murray We have been blessed by the presence of the master mind
Lol
Such a fantastic interviewer, not obnoxious or anything!! Great interview :)
Sean is such a nice guy! Friendly, funny, very down-to-earth.
I hope this game is a success, because the devs really deserve it.
+Allen Smith golden words!
+Allen Smith It will be successful for me. I am looking forward to exploring the No Man's Sky universe
J Mac we all do :D
10 months later... 😂😂 Words full of turds is what this guy has.
I love this guy. Probably the chillest, most genuine developers out there
+Ultimacy In what way would he benefit from actually lying about what's in the game?
+Ultimacy he mislead people about one feature...
+Ultimacy you don't work for hello games wtf are u saying
Lol
i love reading these comments now
one of the reasons I want to get this game is maybe not the game itself but the dream. as a 39 year old, I've been playing games since Atari. he made a game that I always wanted but didn't know that I did until he made it.
How did I miss this for a whole 3 days? Lovely interview.
My guess is Hello games will work on VR after the release of No Man's Sky if it is popular enough.
Mister Archer, is that you?
+Meneer Marten danger zone!
😂😂
+Meneer Marten Just the tip.
Sean did say that if the game was successful that he would consider some of the communities ideas if we really wanted it
I wish i was friends with Sean Murray, he looks like such a nice and genuine guy, inspires me to want to get into making videogames.
1:15 *evil laugh* talk to me when the game is out
lol
1:05
Sean Murray is so relaxed and chilled. Can't wait for No Man's Sky from such an awesome indie team.
Looking at all the top comments "Sean Murray is a inspiration" " Sean Murray talking? Already liked the video." "Sean Murray take my money" hahahahahaha
I devoured every second of this, thanks!
I can't wait for almost 2 months any longer
I can't wait for two months.*
+Grammar Police
two more months*
or
wait two months*
+Grammar Police It comes out in a month and 3 weeks, so not quite 2 months.
CheekyDoubleDee I was correcting the grammar errors. Not the information in the message.
We'll hold on to your panties cuz the game just got the delayed two more months until August 9😭
I rarely listen to such long interviews, but I can listen to Sean Murray for days.
"Life has many planets, Ed boy"
If you understand this reference you are amazing.
+Anakin Maksylewicz YES!
Nostalgia just hit me lika train
+Anakin Maksylewicz "Peel your onions, Ed-boys, and cry! There is no escaping a son of a shepherd!"
sean is like that kid in class that has a lot to say but is very shy

These star fox ads are killin me
+Rasheem Toure Adblock man haha
20xx blib* blib*
I would love to sit down and have a conversation with Sean, he seems like such a wise and inspirational guy
i love his voice and accent so much ♥♥
He's gt a British/American voice
+DopeGhillie it's British
Irish/British accent.
what is this accent ?
+Lewis Lawler he's from Waterford in Ireland
can't get enough of Sean Murray and bits and pieces of No Man's Sky
1hour of Sean Murray talking? Already liked the video without seeing it....
So did i
+N85 and now after watching the whole thing...man, this guy is just awesome. I really hope for him that No Man's Sky is going to be exactly what he wanted it to be and much more. You can tell that this is his baby. Always so passionate about it. I can't wait. Already preordered the Limited Edition
+N85 id like the video but its ign and youtube knows me so well that it auto dislikes ign videos
+GodOfOaks i wouldn't call a game that consists of a universe simple programming.
+oG-DaLLaS its not new nor the most indepth form of programming fyi.
Hold on a sec...Sean worked on my favorite game of all time Burnout 3?!
Yes.
+Tur Soto did he work on paradise?
+KillerGrape nobody knows! One of life's greatest mysteries
Anyone else than me that love Ready player one?
Everyone who's read it?
+Sammy Ferns good answer...
+Jonas MG What No Man's Sky means to making RPO a reality is so exciting for me. That plus like making telephone calls through Minecraft..... Things like that are making me geek out a little bit :P
+Jonas MG Haven't read it, but it's not the first time I get the feeling I should... ASAP.
+Jonas MG Lol... easy there, Shia... no need to scream. XD
Goddamn that audio was terrible. Did nobody edit Sean's voice to avoid peaking and the muffled voice bits.
Agreed! Still enjoyable though.
unfiltered...duh
It's just that he put the mic too far up on his shirt
+Itsallawesome that doesn't mean they couldn't have just thrown a compressor on it. it would've taken like five minutes tops.
+Brandon Dunn lol
take a shot of vodka every time Sean says "um..."
+DutNut Seastar Or like and 'you know' , you would be in a coma after 10 mins.
Suffo cated *4 mins
And "like"
+DutNut Seastar And hum... Stuff like that.
+DutNut Seastar Anybody talking continuously off the cuff does things like that. At least he has more than one.
Enjoyed the interview, good job Ryan.
WHO has preorder IT
+Korv Paulsson I did on steam :)!
+VikNik ToXicHaZaRd nice, i thought to preoder on ps4
+Korv Paulsson Preordered PS4 limited edition.
Korv Paulsson if you love space/exploration/sandbox, this is a must have tittle! :) I highly recomment to support them and preorder the tittle > )
+VikNik ToXicHaZaRd tank you, i should probably per Oder it, yes grammar police, I gonna preorder ps4 limited edition
This was wonderful. I feel like I relate so much with Sean in the way he explains things and in his excitement about games and maths.
Ahhh. Sean couldn't accept Kanye West's Kanye Request 😂
Ryan puts this guy on an absolute pedestal because of No Mans Sky and the game isn't even out. Put it back in your pants Ryan. He actually puts incredible amounts of pressure on this dude because of it. You can even hear him like "ahh well, the games not out yet sooo"
Pure math makes seans checks on shirt 100% square whilst his beard procedurally generates infinite new curls,....... true story
Great in-depth interview and Ryan did great in interviewing.
I love this!
Sean Murray is probably the most inspiring person i have ever listened to
I wish I could work for this guy. How much time does it take to get a UK citizenship?
Hahaha
+BigdudeOP Also tell them your from Syria and have like 20 children, tell them that whilst speaking polish and your sorted, theyll even give you a nice house and free money.
Necron 99 haha
+Necron 99 The sad thing is, this is actually true.
Another great Unfiltered Ryan. I am so excited to play No Man's Sky.
He'd make a great politician.
Thanks for the podcast like video, Made a song while listening to this!
How many times does he say "like" ? :)
Drinking game
Almost as many times as he say...right.
Awesome interview! Sea Murray is such a great guy! I will start uploading the second this game gets released!
Whoever mic'd him up needs a talking to.
+clivedamagedgoods It's like it's right in his nasal cavity.
You can talk all you want but he won't be able to hear you.
Really great interview. I didn't even know Sean Murray worked on Burnout 3! That was seriously one of the best games ever.
best hour ever with no gameplay lol
I love that he's been able to remain humble though all this.
godamnit i was just about to go to bed. guess im up for another hour.
yup, me too. xD
Great video guys. Awesome to see genuine people that want to share their stories and passion with others.
IGN, please, get your freakin' audio right. Sean's mic is clipping and it's extremely annoying to listen to. Half of the time the audio in IGN's videos is bad.
UNFILTERED for a reason bro
+Davis Kline HAH
+EpicGamer440 Horrible at everything except being IGN
Unfiltered isn't an excuse for poor production though.
I love listening to Sean talk about his experiences making games. Inspires me to do more to learn how to make them myself.
Maybe if the mic was better...
+William Wilson Should have checked their levels properly before starting :)
+Craig “Larchi” Moran Audio Mixer: "An hour interview? I'm out guys. -2dB should be fine with no backup levels, right?"
Yeah!! Let's get someone fired :)
This 1 hour video was amazing, i can't wait to beable to get my hands on the game for the first time, thank you Sean Murray
what is this? a community with almost no hate at all what sorcery is this?
The power of Sean's beard compels us.
+grace calis it sure does
+Zendium Artwork shhhh dont give them any ideas!!! lol
Raymond Desamero to late, we ( unfortunately) have some guys crying "buuu its just a boring walking simulator" or "buu its going to get boring after one week" and so on....
+Zendium Artwork and they havent even played the game yet hahahhaha
sean u helpped me more thn any doctor ever has by making this game. you made my dreams come true i was so happy whn i found this game i was crying thank you and you're amazing
ive stopped playing all other games because im just too stoked for this.
+Anthony McCombs Elite Dangerous will keep me company until then.
I've considered other space fps but seeing the hours u have to put in to get started I'll just wait.
+Craig “Larchi” Moran Star Citizen?
Star Citizen has a lot of catching up to do. Before it is worthy of my time.
He is an incredible inspiration to me as a young programmer
At least we don't have to worry about them wanting to sell DLC planets.
+Christopher .Cruse lol
EA XD
Really enjoyed this! Sean seems like a fascinating fella, and No Man's Sky looks like an equally fascinating and indeed promising game.
Differences between this and spore?
+DipoM spore : you are a monster ni man's sky : you kil monsters
Spore explains evolution in in a weird way.
NMS explains astrophysics in a weird way.
+DipoM They are completely different games? They literally have nothing to do with each other.
+DipoM Where is the link between those two games? I don't see it.
Everything.
he's so humble and down to earth. even if NMS doesn't turn out great(which I highly doubt) he's earned mad respect from me.
"talk to me after the game is out"
that's Funny because his in hiding right now..
Slum King yep, still in hiding!
Not anymore ;)
awsome full interview! loved it!
NIce, but you guys need to hire a new sound guy. Sean's mic is blown out, sounds like shiat.
和来咯
+wizehop Hiring a new sound guy is very redundant. Just point out what he did wrong, and let him learn from his mistakes. Why go through all the trouble of firing an employee, filling out the paperwork, and then having to hire a new guy, while you could just point out the mistakes, and let the sound guy improve on it? Yeah, I think that's better.
+NavidIsANoob way to go above and beyond.
TJ Miles I'm a man of the people.
+NavidIsANoob a man of many words.
This is a really great interview. As a tiny pathetic game developer myself, I am in awe of this game, and I can relate to his points.
Boy you were most diffidently wrong on that intro.
Sean Murray is my hero!!! I've waited all my life for a space exploration game of this magnitude and it's finally becoming a reality thanks to him!!! Power To You Sean and your Team!!!
Oh I was thinking it was gameplay, it's then talking for an hour
+noobstalker1 Thank you.
shut it n00b
I'd watch a Ted Talk by him.
Same
My God, the passion that's driving this project will be the saving grace of the gaming industry.
the interviewer could take it down a notch with the relentless eulogising. Like sean said, the game isn't out yet, dude's not god, at least not yet.
You can tell the interviewer is a serious fanboy and really excited about the game lol
Now he's the Devil.
Gosh he is so humble.
I should think so. He hadnt proved himself yet, and he never did after either.
Actually, not denying being called a genius is not humble.
Wow. You can see how tired Sean is here. He must be so bored of talking about the same stuff and mentally and psychically tired from working on the game.
+Elliot Smith Yeah man he's the PR guy as well. Full on.
He is so tires, he keeps forgetting to shave :)
+GodOfOaks ooh. cheers. lol
lol
No kidding. He lightens up a bit as soon as they break off from the game-talk.
I had to smile when he was talking about his Amiga days, it was almost as if he was talking about me because I could relate to everything he said. What a nice bloke aswell.
Musk / Murray 2016
Does anyone know the author of the book Sean was talking about?
Dune - Frank Herbert
terrible audio. sounded like sean had a mic shoved down his throat
+SnipeYouFromMars Yeah, they've made a mess of it.
+SnipeYouFromMars I love the profile pic, game glitches these days
Another good video ign, Sean Murray and Hello Games are legends.
i'd marry sean murray
because the marketing of this pos game tricked u into thinking its a trendy new age universe game
I love when people interview him
Sean's beard gets bigger with every single video....... #FearTheBeard
+nick campo its procedurally generated.
+Wedge Antilles but when you leave the video it all disappears so it can be generated all new again
+Wedge Antilles And if you get close enough, you may discover tiny alienlike creatures :O
+nick campo Math!!!
I rly enjoy these interviews. Looking forward to NMS!
Looking at all the top comments "Sean Murray is a inspiration" " Sean Murray is a genius" hahahahaha
Cuz he is lol
Great interview! Sean is the man.
Your sound guy needs a talk'n to...
+Rean Combrinck TOTALLY!!!! so annoying
Great interview. Thanks.
...and stuff like that :)
Like, like, like god i love murry
+Robbie JM you dont have to add "no homo" at the end dude!
....like a, {insert thing here} kinda thing, right.
-Sean Murray, every time he's ever spoken ever.
Amazing interview! It got me glued to the screen for an hour. Sean Murray is an awesome guy, so down to earth. I thought it might be another annoying video asking Sean "what the game is about", but no... it was just a nice sit down. Good job IGN!
Kind of thing
It's funny when he mentions family, and that his brothers/sisters are doing "far more important things", and "helping the world" not having realised that he is probably on the doorstep of inspiring a generation.
