Your a top banana Peter I don’t care if you don’t make models on here your is vlogs are very interesting I take my hat of to people like you thanks 👏👏👏👍🏴
The interesting thing is just how many of us are in this state. I see fabulous models at the model club and wonder why I do this. The answer is simple - I find pleasure in it. We need an out and our mojo will come and go. Lovely video with thought and passion for modelling and what we do.
I had to watch this video several times, had no time to participate in the chat. I have no ''building season"' but yes often I don't feel the urge to build something of my stash (None of them are easy one or two day builds, like I did in the 1970s). And then suddenly I'm in a building frenzy, working on 3 kits at the same time. What I do try to do more - see your (in)famous stash size video - is to prioritize on finally finishing kits I started working on a long time ago. Sometimes I have no time, sometimes I prefer another of my hobbies. I don't have much fancy equipment. I tried airbrushing twice but spraying is not my thing although for some of the surfaces of the bigger kits, spray cans are useful. I acquired some paintbrushing techniques over the years I'm happy with. Most of the disasters - well yes, only I know what parts are missing or might have ended up on the wrong place or not. I will never win a model competition. If I had no other hobby, or if I had double the time and the money, then yes I might try. But i'm building for myself. Those contests do inspire me though. What do I hope to finish by the end of this year? My Revell 1/32 Me 262; two US Navy Ww2 fighters in different scales; a Heller 1/16 StuG III. For next year, i'm thinking about my 1/350 Dreadnought, 1/32 ground attack Ilyushin, and several civilian cars. Try not to expand my stash and leave the kits i haven't started on their shelves.
Best mojo boost I got recently was building an old tool Airfix Buccaneer with my grandson. We put it together in a couple of Saturday afternoons, I painted it and he put the decals on with a little help. It's never going to be shown to anyone but Kyron loves it and we had fun building it. Great video Peter and best of luck with the next builds.👍
I did a similar thing to your Sea Harrier with the Airfix 1/48th Tornado GR4 from the Dambusters 60th set, it was horrible, raised panel lines, poor fit, the lot. I looked at it as a challenge and am proud of how it came out in the end. (I did fit a revell canopy and resin cockpit and 617 Sqn 70th decals) Lots of swearing involved but worth it in the end. Great work, keep it coming.
I’m in limbo as I don’t have a proper work station , build on dining table and paint in the garage , my wife gives me the evils haha , however after watching your video I’ve cracked open my academy zero and feel loads better 👍
The build videos I like are only 10-15min long. They go over the highlights, tell you about any issues they had, show the final kit wallah...all done. Appreciate your channel Peter. But if it takes you stepping back for a while and just building for the heck of it, go for it!
You hit a nail on the head...I started and put down a Trumpeter 1/32 TBM back in 2019 (Oct) and only picked it up again 3 months ago. for those reason. Lost mojo. I began and built the Airfix TSR2 prior which is another best ever until the TBM. Once the TBM was finished, this is the best model I have ever built (Flory member too), ever .
Wonderful sentiments Peter, and expertly expressed with a passion as always. This blog should be required listening at modelling school 101. I always find your vids uplifting and very witty. You’ve got some fantastic projects ahead of you, can’t wait to see them. Keep up the great work, all the best !
Waiting for my Pilot Replicas Saab 105/Sk60 to arrive. It's been a long wait for a decent kit of this beautiful aircraft to be available. The key to modelling, for me, is to have a subject you are fully engaged with.
Glad you are here and building, Mr. Oxley. As far as competitions go, I agree, I've always built for myself. I inhabit the RC Tank Warfare site based out of the UK and there are modelers there whose work is so well done as to give absolute pleasure to view. If I constantly measured my efforts against those guys, I'd have no fun at all. Thanks for the Video!
Intriguing topic: sometimes my need to build flawless masterpiece can get in the way of getting started. After all, that is not the spirit of how most got into model building. Who remembers the time when we were twelve years old and the impatient excitement of finishing a kit within two days? Occasionally, it is refreshing to re-live childhood by pursuing a kit with that same approach of not over-thinking it. Thus, the momentum isn't lost. And yet, with our advanced skills, the model still looks reasonaby good, once finished - even if it won't be the next candidate for the world championship.
Hi Peter. Loved this one mate. Very pertinent to all of us at one time or another. Given up on the notification from You tube but its not a biggy, I just keep checking your channel. Lots of changes in life recently one thing and 20 others have kept my building momentum to a dribble...but I keep going whenever I get the time. Got back into the hobby...again ( the kit collecting has never ceased though and the stash is `healthy`) I felt like a challenge and something grand so decided the 1/48 rev/mon b29 would be an interesting place to start getting back into kits again. As a result of the sheer amount of clean up of parts it is going VERY tediously...BUT. the battle with ejector pin marks and flash etc WILL come to an end...one day and I will pick up the airbrush ( and scratch my head )...been a while. You touched on MANY areas I have shared similar experience and it was great to listen to you share and ask for your viewers also . I think most of us are all in the same boat. I bought the Fengda airbrush and it goes well. Not as nice as my runway 13 but does the job. appreciate the recommendation and would also recommend it as a budget but capable tool. Personally I build my kits up as my own `air force` with my own schemes and markings etc so I never suffer from feeling I haven't done an example justice. I just enjoy the imagination and flexibility this gives for example the Superfort build will sport an unusual `copper` bare metal finish as part of an alt universe/ Alt materials and alloys. Thanks again. Best chat Ive listened to in a while on any modelling channel. Keep it fun. Cheers.
Different strokes for different folk Peter. We all do things our own way. Fast or slow, it doesn’t matter. I like build videos because I can learn from others, and it’s interesting to see how they sort out problematic areas on some kits, especially those on my build list. Sometimes they unearth an issue I didn’t see, even after I go through the instruction sheet and look at the parts on the sprues. I believe that forewarned is forearmed. And as for competitions, not for me as well. I prefer the camaraderie of group builds to the rivalry of competitions. 😊
Wow that's an impressive selection of kits Peter, those will definitely keep your mojo on the highest level! As for the next modeling season: many kits are waiting in my stash to build, but what I really looking forward to work on: finishing my 1/24 Airfix Hellcat wich I started in early 2021, Tamiya 1/32 Corsair, P-38 Lightning, and the Border Models Fw190. Other than these, some quick projects could also find themselves on the bench as well. I'm so agree with you about competing with each other. For the same reason I think I'll stop bringing my kits to modeling contests. Focusing to win prices on various model shows just kind of takes away the essence of modeling, wich is just have fun and enjoy our bench time! Btw have a great modeling season, and don't forget to share your progress in your upcoming videos!
Thanks for another chat Peter, I really enjoy these style of videos and hearing your thoughts on different topics 👍 Summer is usually for outdoor sports for me so winter is an ideal time to get on with modelling.. Chris
Another fantastic video. Unfortunately, I lost my mojo for modelling until I started watching your videos and flory models. Kind regards, and have a fantastic weekend ahead.
Haven't built in a while, built (not painted yet) starter Airfix Spitfire,.... a bit simplistic but it was a start,(the little paint tubs were all dried up) got 72 scale Airfix Mustang, Mosquito & Vulcan, 35 scale T34 & a Tamiya P34 F1 car(the 6 wheeler). You done a beautiful job on the Porsche917, one of my all time favourite cars
Try to add a bit of water in those tiny tubs and slowly use a brush or whatever to get a smooth liquid paint again. It doesn't always work. Don't throw them away.
The Missile Launcher! So, You had a hard time fin-ishing it Ah!😄 I built the Austen Powers Jaguar to try and get my Model Mojo back. Without my Model Mojo, I was Buying a big collection of 1/18 scale Diecast cars. Like You say, I was enjoying looking at them, but I started to miss my creativity input, and actually putting something together!
Well, I have been enduring several clods in a row myself Peter, also have been poking through a few trying to rebuild the mojo. Also have several of the same kits in the stash, the P--38, the Jagdpanther, and the Rufe version of the Eduards Zeros. Trying to finish up the Trumpeter Mig 3, a Dragon 38(t), a Tamiya FW-190, and a Merit Grumman Duck. Listening to you helps me realize we all go through this.
Hi Peter , I am building the Mosquito as we speak , and I will say it’s a lovely kit to build but I should point out something tamiya has missed just in case you don’t know about it - the only part I can fault is in the bag with the screws etc are what looks like 4 clear mould injection tabs , but they are in fact caps to help lock the metal bar in the wheels in place but there is no mention of them in the instructions so just be wary of them and don't throw them away .
Don't feel bad, Peter. I normally have between 3 and 6 projects at various stages....completely stalled for about 6 months and just barely eaking my way back into things. Maybe I just needed a break...it happens to all of us. Best wishes, Dane
April Fools Day 1977 I graduated from USAF Tech training at Chanute AFB IL 😊 43131 Aircraft Maint. Course and ended up with the 509th BW SAC with KC 135s 😊 April Fool! I hated my days following my training days- the USAF was NOT FOR ME at 18! 😊
Went back to basics I was over doing the detailing and model's were coming out not so well so just went back to basic model building and started enjoying it again but I do start summer builds and do less in winter
I also only ever entered (and won) one model competition... around the age of 14.... Run by a local toy/model shop. It was restricted to Airfix series 1, but you could add detailing if you wanted - I built a Bf.109, posed in flight on it's stand, pointed downwards - Cotton-wool smoke and flames coming from the engine - bullet-holes, smashed canopy... and my bloodthirsty 14-yo self thought it would be fun to splash spots of red paint inside the cockpit/canopy... 2nd prize winner was a Sherman tank, obviously inspired by Matchbox dioramas because it was on a stand with grass, tree, and a bit of wall - I personally thought it was brilliantly done, and IMHO, better than mine. First prize was £5 to spend in that shop - But bear in mind in those days (1976/77) you could get a 1/72nd Lancaster for not much more than £1
Wow ! Well Done. ☺️ When I was about 13 I did the Matchbox 1/32 Bf109E Crash-landed in a field with bullet holes and bent props etc...So I know what you mean! 😂 Local model shop exhibited mine in the window for about 2 months! 😊
I’m pretty much the same with regard to making models during the cold months. Summertime means enjoying the great outdoors. I also have to be in the right frame of mood. I’ve learnt that if I’m not in the mood, I tend to make mistakes and end up spending more time rectifying it!
LOL, i love watching build vids, i also watch them or half watch them while i''m doing my own builds, but only the ones where they talk you through the build, i do not watch the ones where there is just music going while someone builds.
I'm a really slow builder as well, but a fast buyer! I don't strip my airbrushes down after every colour, but after every spraying sections and I've not had any problems with them. My oldest Iwata, is probably 20 years old and I've only changed the needle and nozzle once only because I thought it was probably time to change it.
Great update... That JagdPanther looks a beaut, I am starting the 1/72 Zvezda kit as a bookshelf kit for my lad who likes WWII armour. Of course perfection with wings on is the DH Mosquito or even the DH Hornet too... 😀 so for a perfectionist, the Tamiya Mossie must be number one...!... I am trying to finish off some Airfix 1/72 scale Reds ... Hawk, 2xJP and a Gnat (1964) and then... I am going for the Trumpeter D5 Stuka in 1/24... argh...😀
I've managed to take myself down a different rabbit hole I've got loads of kits not even finished one for the last year however I've got myself the part works titanic and that's been taking my time
This years builds are a porsche 1/24 Tamiya 911 Turbo, 1/35 Tamiya Churchill in winter camo, 1/48 Eduard Spit VIII and just finishing up a 1/35 Dragon M2, Might do 1 more before the end of the year... Next year is the year of the 1/16 Armour.. Have the AHHG Tiger & Sherman, Das Werk Panzer III & 251/1 & a Takom Jeep.. so will do a few of those ,Might do the Airfix Vulcan as well, not sure yet. I have 55 Kits in my stash so things can change. :)
I enjoyed the video Peter. I am waiting for a kit to "Jump Out at Me" in a hobby shop! It is too hard for me to decide which one to build from my strategic reserve. If I were you, I would scratch build a destroyer or frigate to go along with the Sea Dart!👍👍👍
Well done Peter, 11 out of 10 from me, for most of us it’s a hobby, nothing wrong with trying to improve but remember to have fun. I enjoy doing the occasional “what if”, no rules and much fun. My next kit to build is the Academy 1/72 scale Mig 27, a test for my noob air brush skills….what could possibly go wrong 🤪, loving your channel
I'm currently building the GWH Mig-29 in 1/72 in DDR colours. I'm a bit like yourself, a very slow builder. I spent a year on the GWH Su-30 SM in 1/48 while the kit turned out to be my best work ever, I did find great enjoyment in building it. There were no issues with fit or instuctions. The issue was that is was very modular with loads of sub assemblies. The weapons and engine area took a month each! I wanted to dive straight back in to the 1/32 Tamiya Corsair but I just was not ready to start such a big project. Beware of building the F-14 in flight with acrylic rods. I built mine like that but the kit is quite heavy and after about a year, the rod snapped and the F-14 went on it's final flight.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-LabI followed the method primemodelworks used on his youtube for the F-14 but couldn't find rods as thick as his. I believe he used 6mm.
I’m currently working on one too many models at once Peter!! The F-16D 2014 tigermeet, F-22A and AH-64D all in 1:72 scale. Not to mention the 1:48 scale F-14A from Revell I have primed and still waiting to be painted. Will probably make a 109 with my dad once these projects are completed :)
Funny story Peter, when i was around 11 years old (37 now) my local hobby store had a model comp, i entered a 43rd scale Revell ford pick up truck, they accused my dad of cheating and saying that his son built it, cold hard truth was that a group of adults lost to my little pick up truck hand painted in Humbrol enamel paint. :)
Excellent video as always Peter. Who thought model making could be so thought provoking. Currently going through my own ordeal at the moment. Have spent over a year off and on building the Protar 1/12 Ferrari 126 C2. Struggling to get over the finishing line, but by God it will get finished! Would love to see a Ron Dennis biography released, but i dont think there is anyone brave enough to write one! A fascinating character by all accounts.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Going to be Pironi. Sorry to disappoint you Peter, as I have a feeling you are a Villeneuve 'fanboy' 😂. I think that I have fallen into the trap of not knowing when to finish a kit to the extent that I stop enjoying the build, and as you mentioned ends up being a chore. Seems I'm not the only one. Anyway, chin up and get cracking on the next project! Look forward to the next video.
I really need to start the Revell London Routemaster bus.... but I have this idea of adding interior illumination and head lights etc...... this scares me and I've been putting it off! What could possibly go wrong!!😮
Some great talking points once again Peter. You mentioned early in the video that your dad worked in HMS Invincible pre-commissioning - I too worked on the Invincible command and control systems (including the Seadart) at this time and it would be interesting to know what he worked on? I can find time throughout the year for my hobbies as I'm retired and my partner still works. Competition modelling is of no interest to me, nor indeed is joining a modelling club. I do however love watching build videos on TH-cam to marvel at the skill and pick up the odd tip (especially for WW1 aircraft modelling). My current project is the CSM 1/32 Nieuport XXIII, and next will be one of my WNW kits, probably an Albatros D.V. The stash is quite small (10 kits), so I need to think about adding to that!
Oh my word you've struck a sore nerve with me Pete. I have an Airfix Dornier, canopy masked, undersides painted and masked, half camouflage applied. Lost my mojo with it last October! Little voice in the back of my head - what's going to happen now when you demask😢
Oooof! The dreaded canopy de-masking moment! But in the worst case scenario, you can always remove any overspray carefully with IPA on a cotton bud? (As long as not INSIDE!?) Gulp! 😖 Be BRAVE. 😉
Hi Peter my problem is i have a lot of kits i want to build but i work in a busy factory, so when i come home and have a shower and then make my tea, after that i am usually too tired to make any models, when on my holidays i say good i can get on with my kits but usually dont get what i want done, people that can spend a lot of time building there models are lucky i think, i hope you get some of your models made peter, that mossie will be a good kit.🙂
Yes, I have similar issues and find it difficult to motivate myself sometimes too. Hope you manage to get some chance to find the opportunity to build something soon. 👍🏻
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab despite being nearly 40 years old that esci Tornado is a great kit...fit of some of the parts is so good that you dont need glue and the fit of the wings to their swing wing mounting pionts is again so good there is no fear of them falling off even without the fuselage upper glued in place .just goes to show just because its vintage does not automaticly mean its going to be a crap kit.
I would never enter a competition....the judges are usually perfectionist snobs and grey beards and there is too much of that in the hobby....thats also why i left ipms Ireland.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Labwould love to see a video about how much models cost....while i understand shops are not in buissness to give models away and have to make a profit and there are other costs such as importer /distributor costs and shipping etc my local shop want 30 euro for the Airfix vintage classic 1/72 Harrier Gr1......total rip off and i am NOT paying that for it.
My local model club has an annual competition amongst it's members. The members vote on 1st, 2nd and third. The same guy wins first every year. The older members vote for each other no matter what.
I am currently doing the Tamiya 1/48 F-4 in a Marines Vietnam scheme. After that I plan to finish my Kitty Hawk RF-101 Voodoo that has been sitting on the shelf of doom for a while.
Hi Peter! I know what you mean. I got discouraged with the cockpit sub-assembly for the Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk I -- especially after I misplaced the crucial piece that connects the control panel and pedal mechanism. I set it aside and built a really simple old Testors kit from 1965, and had a lot of fun with it. I've got a number of 1/72 and 1/76 kits in stash and more coming -- including a few Revell re-boxings of Matchbox diorama kits -- and I'm going to focus on them 'till I get my skills up to speed again. I did find that piece, and I'm back on the Spit again after the break. When it's done, I've got a Tamiya 1/48 'Tilly' kit and an ICM RAF ground crew kit to build, and I plan a diorama for them with the Spit. Other kits upcoming are the Tamiya 1/700 Prince of Wales Battle of Malaya kit, and a Trumpeter 1/72 Chinook my wife gave me for my birthday. Oooo, and I've also got the Revell 1/144 Apollo 11 Saturn V 50th anniversary kit coming, and I'll get that done by Christmas, I hope. In between, I need to build a display shelf... As always, thanks for all the fun, support and encouragement to puny mortals like me... 😀
Thanks Steve 👍🏻 ☺️ But...Ohhhh! Revell Apollo Saturn V (1/144) is sitting next to my model cabinet (see my Xmas dusting pain vids) it's ok but just styrene plasticard forming the cylindrical main sections! What a rip off! 😡
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab LoL! I should have guessed with Ravell... The only reason I got it was because it was 42% off -- now I guess I know why! Live and learn. I'll make sure I leave an appropriate review on Amazon... Thanks for the info! 😀
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Hi Peter! The Saturn V arrived today, and the main body section is regular plastic like the rest of the kit, so I guess they changed it with my version. I'll let you know how the build goes. 😀
Most excellent video again young Padawan, as one have come to expect from you....😉 The only competition I'm participating in, is the one with myself....to learn and hopefully improve as well! As I've mentioned earlier, I'm neck deep in the quicksand of mojos, been for some time, plodding along with the Academy re-popped 1/48 Dauntless originally by Accurate Miniature and I'm taking my time! lol Quite tempted to try one of Eduard's 1/48 WWI machines, Fokker Dr.I as it has a minimum of wiring....could be the Fokker D.VII as well for the same reason. As for competitions and judging, I'd be an awful judge as I near enough hate any modern stuff, I pretty much draw the line of my modelling around the time of the Vietnam War and the Cold War....the as with my personal interest in history, from day dot up to the end of the Cold War!
I do have a huge selection of kits in the stash. 1/16 armour, 1/200 Yamato, 1/48 Uboat. All three 1/32 Flankers and god knows what else. Where does the time go?
Peter - don’t change your style! (I know you’re not but it’s a good opportunity to pay you a deservedly earned compliment) It’s unique and very personable and honest style, all done in one take - there’s no BS, whether I agree or not with your opinions is irrelevant, it’s like sitting with a good friend and having a chat - you’re honest and a rather jolly, good hearted chap - I rarely miss an episode 👍
To make you feel better I have been in the same kit for over 6 months. OK I am busy at work but even so some of us just like to take time. It may also be that I mess up so much.
Recently started an Airfix Mary Rose starter kit. Have always built planes so a ship was very new and a challenge despite being a starter. Really enjoyed it. So much so bought a HMS Victory to do next. My wife then points to my stash of 20 plus models asking when I'll be building them? 😂
Hi Peter, next year was meant to be the year of the ship builds having a number of 1/600 WWII ships in the stash, but having acquired a number of 1/48 spitfires (making 6 now in the stash), will probably whittle them down over the first half of the year and probably get most of them done as some will be duel builds (as 4 are duplicate kits in 2's which can be built along side of each other with slight varient differences) before starting the ships. Also being retired on medical grounds, I have the time to put the man hours into the builds.
I've built a couple ZM 1/32s the last two years and a 1/32 Kittyhawk Mirage 2000N 🙄 and a couple less involved kits, which got me ready to just bite the bullet and build a long planned project.(so many warts and all, some unexpected). Trumpeter 1/32 F-105D. It needed all the aftermarket I could get and then some....but we're putting on paint and should be done in about a month or so. As long as the MOJO hangs on.😂 Once done, something smaller less involved should do the trick to keep me from going static.
Terrible model slump this year after taking far too long on a 1/16 Stug. Without sounding like a plug, I’ve found in the past that a Tamiya armour kit is a great and genuine weekend build, something like the Chieftain.
Great talk Peter. you are right not to let the hobby consume your life those of us who have attracted our mates to the strange and insular life we lead need to work extra hard to make time and space to maintain a loving relationship which they deserve as model wifes are a rare and exotic species .
I'm half way through the Fujimi car transporter, to display my 1/24 scale cars on, then I'll be progressing my 1/20 F1 grid line up with a Williams, Ferrari and Tyrell
Great video Peter! I have a list of models in my stash that I have prioritized for building in front of everything else. Currently working on the Otaki P-40E, the Dragon Tiger I will be next after my Tamiya Achilles that I just started. 58:22
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab So far so good regarding the Achilles. Assembled the figures and started construction on the lower hull. I will keep you posted sir! Be seeing you #6!
I do some judging occasionally in a non related area and I have to tick a box that says I have no vested interest in the project being judged. Sometime I do when maybe it’s a friend or a sister company and I always tick the box saying I cannot judge this due to vested interest. Maybe the judges should move to an online voting form where the know there vote is recorded against a particular project.
I am currently working on a 1/8th bust of Dracula from last voyage of the Demeter, a 150mm Predator in a jungle setting and a 1/8th Tauriel from TLOTR.
Thank God l'm not the only one and get out of my head sometimes l think I'm the slowest modeler around 🤣l did all the things you talked about, it takes me ages because l am so unsure of what l'm doing on certain things so l look at videos on TH-cam by all sorts of people but realise that if for example watching Nightshift l only watch to see how it's done not to try to do it as good as him because l can't people like that have a gift but l'm sure they make mistakes too, I have just got the Airfix Ambulance K2/Y and l love the film (Ice Cold In Alex) l think l'll do that in a desert scheme by the way you have some really nice kit there thanks for a great video mate 👍
I spray in the kitchen, next to the sink with bin bags everywhere...and my other half nowhere near. I have some Bartenders Friend just in case the sink gets ballsed...
My last build was 20 years ago. I have kits from 30 years (Pocher 1/8 cars)...I have 14 kits....I bought and almost straight away sold them. I am now a sprue ogler. Sad.
12:59 Wait, some people don't clean their airbrush between paints? How can you get consistent colours if you're effectively mixing every time you spray? I've only been modelling 12 months or so and after getting a cheapo airbrush I've automatically been pretty religious with cleaning. Seems weird to me anyone would be that lax given the potential consequences
Hi George, no there is no medical reason (though I am sympathetic if you do have one) it is more to do with handling many kits either provided by others of maybe sold on...it's has sort of become my trade mark (along with the many lights, brown jacket, Flashy watches and fancy shirt, etc. Lol 😆
We are all guilty of getting anal about model building. I now do it to enjoy it. The result is always good enough. And knowing my next build will also be good enough and a bit better 😀
Hi Peter, if your looking for a build that will reinvigorate your modelling build your Tamiya P38, it is outstanding! It’s perfect and looks beautiful when finished. Also, if your going to start your 1/32 Mosquito I’ll start mine, make it a subject for a group build haha. Hope your well, love your channel
Currently have two on the bench with one just about done. Airfix 1/48 Hawker Hunter in Suez strips is just about done with a 1/72 Masterbox Mk.1 Female underway and will be putting into a 1919 diorama. As far as what's next? Will probably be one of Airfix's simple 1/72 aircraft (probably the early Hurricane), and then a Special Hobby 1/32 P-400 in Soviet lend-lease colors.

Good points well made. In terms of competition modelling I agree that things can get too serious and for me the first thing that suffers is fun.
Thanks Mike! 👍🏻
Well said. 👍🏻
Cheers.
Thanks Aubrey! 👍🏻😄
I had a couple of difficult-to-build kits. It's exhausting. I'm traveling on the Tamiya-Meng Superhighway for a spell.
Lol! Nothing wrong with that...😆
I'm the same, build during the winter a lot more. Summer is full of golf and family stuff so little free time.
Thanks for another honest chat. Enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers. ☺️
I have the 1/32 Corsair too...another cracker! 👍🏻 Thanks for your support! 😃
Great video Pete informative educational entertaining, well done sir keep the champers and black gloves a working😂
Thanks! 😄
I found joining group builds helps me maintain my "mojo".
Yes, must try this. 👍🏻
Yes, we certainly hit a brick wall sometimes, John. 😕
I think the Vietnam tank would need some jungle foliage around it,and a peace symbol, just so it sets the tone of what time period it is.
Wow, thanks for the heads-up Mark! 👍🏻
Don't feel bad, Peter. I normally have between 3 and 6 projects at various stages....completely stalled for about 6 months and just barely eaking my way back into things. Maybe I just needed a break...it happens to all of us. Best wishes, Dane
Thanks Dave. 👍🏻
the Ade Edmonson of sprue, love it!
Quote of the year “it’s not all beer and skittles”
LOL, i love watching build vids, i also watch them or half watch them while i''m doing my own builds, but only the ones where they talk you through the build, i do not watch the ones where there is just music going while someone builds.
Good chat, Peter. I plan to build an Airfix 1/600 HMS Ajax, converted into Achilles. Look forward to seeing your land-lumber version of Achilles.
Ha ha! Thanks Joe! 🇺🇸😂
Ouch! Thanks for the Tomcat warning! 🫣
@James That is funny! 😆
Ha ha, yes agree with you about Ron there Mark. Is your Ferrari going to be Villenuve or Pironi, I wonder?
Dump the kit and move on mate.
Life is to short 🤷♂️
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab
Going to be Pironi.
Thanks Peter! I think Dad was working on some heating and ventilation trunking re-design issue in 1974-75
Remember we do this for fun.
😖 Be BRAVE. 😉
I will try to be!@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab
Hmmm...sounds like the Eurovision song contest! 🤣
I am currently doing the Tamiya 1/48 F-4 in a Marines Vietnam scheme. After that I plan to finish my Kitty Hawk RF-101 Voodoo that has been sitting on the shelf of doom for a while.
Like anything else, it isn't about being the best, it is the enjoyment of the activities, be it Modeling, Art or even in sport, just enjoy!
If you to do a esy kit that can give great results. Do the Meng WW1 Mk a Whippet. Great little kit
Bummer, I can't add a picture. I have a photo of my build list that I wanted to share with you.
Most excellent video again young Padawan, as one have come to expect from you....😉
The only competition I'm participating in, is the one with myself....to learn and hopefully improve as well!
As I've mentioned earlier, I'm neck deep in the quicksand of mojos, been for some time, plodding along with the Academy re-popped 1/48 Dauntless originally by Accurate Miniature and I'm taking my time! lol
Quite tempted to try one of Eduard's 1/48 WWI machines, Fokker Dr.I as it has a minimum of wiring....could be the Fokker D.VII as well for the same reason.
As for competitions and judging, I'd be an awful judge as I near enough hate any modern stuff, I pretty much draw the line of my modelling around the time of the Vietnam War and the Cold War....the as with my personal interest in history, from day dot up to the end of the Cold War!
I have the bones of a kit done in the video's length. Enjoyed it though.
Ha! Was it a Matchbox? 😆
Thanks Paul, your support is much appreciated! 😄👍🏻
Exactly.
To make you feel better I have been in the same kit for over 6 months. OK I am busy at work but even so some of us just like to take time. It may also be that I mess up so much.
Fear of messing up seems to be a common fear that makes so many of us nervous to get stuck in on the modelling bench...🫣
Forget everything and build the mosquito. You know it makes sense.
@@billgalloway1799 Soooooo tempting, Bill! 😍
Recently started an Airfix Mary Rose starter kit. Have always built planes so a ship was very new and a challenge despite being a starter. Really enjoyed it. So much so bought a HMS Victory to do next. My wife then points to my stash of 20 plus models asking when I'll be building them? 😂
A stash of 20 unbuilt kits? 😨 You are obviously a very bad man!? 😂 See:th-cam.com/video/xoHZrQ6f6EY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cmn_GDqyhmUFqMYe
Hi Gary, Every cloud has a silver lining. ☺️
I think you are right: if in self-doubt: Jump to one of those fun builds! 👍🏻
Great talk Peter. you are right not to let the hobby consume your life those of us who have attracted our mates to the strange and insular life we lead need to work extra hard to make time and space to maintain a loving relationship which they deserve as model wifes are a rare and exotic species .
Thanks Lee, but did you really not mean 'Model Widdows'? 🤣
I've honestly bought a kit and dreaded doing it almost as though it was a job rather than a hobby
Suspect many of us develop that feeling sometimes Mark
I'm half way through the Fujimi car transporter, to display my 1/24 scale cars on, then I'll be progressing my 1/20 F1 grid line up with a Williams, Ferrari and Tyrell

Thanks Jim! Please keep me posted on progress & feedback on the Achilles. 👍🏻
Wow, figures hold no fear for you then, Mike! 👍🏻

Yes it mystifies me but seems we are not typical! Can you imagine the cross contamination of colours? 😱🫣
Next model is the 1/48 tamiya mosquito
Pete can I ask why you wear black gloves, I have trouble with my hands and I wonder if you have he same problems. Don't mean to be too noisey
Yes...I need to enjoy the journey more and not worry about the destination so much.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Exactly it is very easy to lose sight of that
Hi Peter, if your looking for a build that will reinvigorate your modelling build your Tamiya P38, it is outstanding! It’s perfect and looks beautiful when finished. Also, if your going to start your 1/32 Mosquito I’ll start mine, make it a subject for a group build haha. Hope your well, love your channel
Thanks Richard! ☺️
Don't worry what other people think...THEREFORE do not put your kit on the web!! You are safe then.
Build something or just complain
I do both...😏
Currently have two on the bench with one just about done.
So update, it's the Folland Gnat in the Hot Shots scheme. Building more for my brother though since he quite likes that movie.
