    I've been told that you shouldn't criticize anyone for mispronouncing a word. Most of the time, that person learned the word they are mispronouncing by reading it. They've never heard it pronounced before. Keep trying to improve yourself, as we all should, but don't be too hard on yourself either. I haven't met anyone that was perfect yet.

    Thanks for this info. I am setting up for a circular breeding system from 3does and 2 bucks to make 3 or 4 maternal colonies. Best females stay with the mothers group. Best males from each group are only bred to the next group and so on each generation. A to B. B to C. C to A. Rest are culled or sold. By the time you get around again you will be 3-4 generations out so no inbreeding. You could go almost indefinitely without needing to outcross.

    Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you could make a video, if you haven't already, about what is an "exceptional" or "beautiful" breeder to pick from the litter. I had limited breeders of meat rabbits in a 4 hour radius. I was able to get a NZ buck from one breeder and two related NZ does from another breeder. I think my buck is a good type, but the does may be too long, narrow, and small for their breed. I'm expecting kits next week, and want to know what to look for to enhance my line of breeders. Thanks again!

    Hello, I am from Bulgaria and here I have a farm for rabbits that I raise. I learned useful things that I did not know from you, although here we raise them differently, in wooden cages with a solid floor. I want to ask if you give any medicine to the young before weaning for coccidiosis because here we have a big problem with it and we start giving medicine from day 20 to day 30 so we have no problems after weaning. Also at what age we start slaughtering rabbits here we do it at 4 months. Thanks for the amazing videos it's nice to see how these animals are kept on the other side of the world.

    thank you so much the best how to I have found! my question is more about sustainability- closed herd stuff. I also have chickens. Is there some reason three family spiral breeding will not work for rabbits so I can have meat etc for at least 20 generations. I can then line breed for rabbits with various qualties but still know I never need to source another buck or doe?

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question traditionally, a chicken breeding method. Spiral breeding would absolutely work. You'd want them the same color but the only thing is when it comes to your rabbit herd, most folks become very selective/picky when picking future breeders. You want breeders that put up good numbers as well as terrific shape. You'll want to exercise selective breeding rather than just stay on a rotation program, regardless of quality. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.

Then get your other breeding pair if you want to build your herd.

    Can you elaborate on creating a pedigree? Meaning, can you inline breed to create a pedigree or do they need to be unrelated in order to charge a premium?
    What traits do you look for when picking your rabbits?-besides liking when they great you at the door?
    Thanks!

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They don't need to be unrelated to have a Pedegree. They don't even need to be purebred to have a pedigree it's just simply it's the recorded ancestry from the last 3 generations. Keeping your rabbits purebred and keeping pedigree records will help you sell for a premium price.
      When picking out rabbits, make sure they are 100% healthy. Try purchasing from a reputable breeder. It's best to familiarize yourself with what that breeds standard of perfection is. That way you know what to look for. Here's a book that'll help you amzn.to/3HoQXU8

    It is called linebreeding when succesfull and inbreeding when it is not.
    If you already know that all the rabbits you buy are fertile (AND produce both sexes, because not all do), one buck and 3-4 does can set this up with less problems (but you do need to have the courage to keep continuing with the offspring rather than the parents).
    This article explains such a setup with sheep (but it will work with pretty much any animal as long as they give both sexes, so animals that give multiple offspring per birth are needed/preferred).
    critterhaven.biz/info/articles/1_ram.htm
    With an animal like a rabbit you possible could go the other route and use multiple bucks with one doe, but it takes longer and plenty of breeders will tell you from experience that the doe/female animal passes more on to the offspring than the father does (it is closer to 70-30 than 50-50 gene-traits wise). So that gamble requires a really, really good doe to start with and more years of breeding her. On top of that you don't want to exhaust that doe, so rest her enough between breedings (if that makes her fat, feed ad lib hay only and little to no pellets (breeder i got my doe from has litters of 6-7 dwarf rex on an ounce of pellets + all the hay and water they want (and free exercise for at least an hour each day to keep fit). And about 2 litters a year. Breed from about 8-9 months to 3 years when pelvic canal can start giving problems.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ll need one cage for every breeder
      Grow out cages -There’s several ways you can do this
      You can harvest your rabbits at 12 weeks -you can grow them all out in one big cage and rebreed your doe when the kits have reached 9-10 weeks or
      You can keep the does with mom and put the bucks in a separate cage to give yourself a little more time until you can get time to harvest the rest of them. You’ll need 7 grow out cages.
      If you plan on breeding every 60 days and Letting your rabbits grow out past three months you’ll need 14 grow out cages.
      Hope that’s not too confusing

    Marvelous explanation thats easy to follow. Question my dear: I have a pair (my frist) that was sold to me as a "proven" breeding pair. Doe was actually still nursing when I bought her. Now, for the last month I try to breed her to her known buck, that I bougt with her, as the breeding proven pair. Well.
    He humps and humps but no cigar.
    I recently asked you if im turning them out in too large of a run to court, and you said YES. SO NOW, I do what you showed in your video about "resistant does". She goes into HIS cage. Three weeks now, full moon included, and she just will NOT lift for him!! I feel like taking this pair back to the seller and get my money back. Nothing easier that breeding rabbits, and lo and behold - not this pair. She licks her feet, licks her sides, makes sounds but will NOT lift for him.
    Any ideas?? Thanks! Love your vids! (Breed:Dutch)

      The short days and cold temps could be playing a factor. Try introducing some light (12hour days)to trigger breeding. You can always wait until late February when the temps warm up and the light increases too. Try introducing a half a dozen black oil seeds on a board and a cap of apple cider Vinegar in her water daily. This might get her moving in the right direction
