    Dude! DUDE!!! Your five are like the top five I have learned since starting my rabbitry ONE WEEK AGO blind as in with no knowledge at all. Literally bought rabbits and then looked at videos. I had cages from some chickens and I have some animal husbandry skills from chickens and dogs and cats but your video opened my eyes. Thanks soooooo much. Dude! Like really thanks!

    I had a very rare situation happen to one of my does. It was a very bad winter in KS. She had four kits on the wire, and unfortunately they had frozen to death. Then, two days later she has four more!!?? (on the wire also. 😭) I know they have two horns in their uteruses.

    The kindling tote is a great idea. I really like them but here in Northern New Hampshire, we can get some SERIOUS snow and temperatures down around -30. Would I need to go a little deeper, below frost line, for these? Also, should I insulate the top at all?

    • @TheRabbitryCenter

    I found and subscribed to you about a month ago and have scoured your videos for information on meat rabbits as I have just gotten into them. (15-20 yrs ago I raised rabbits for pets) and I am not sure if I missed this info but do you (and if you don't, could you pretty please with sprouted oats on top address this) have a video explaining how YOU choose your phenotypes to breed specifically for butchering (bulky bunny)? At what point in their growth do you decide if a specific jr buck or doe is worthy to keep as a breeder and what is your criteria? Can you tell by a certain age if the line or individual should be culled or reproduced?

    • @bobbysbucks
      @bobbysbucks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question
      You first need to know what you want and once you decide inspect your litter and find the rabbit that best suits your needs this will be your designated breeder sell or process the rest.
      In many cases I’ve had to purchase a rabbit in outcrossed those jeans into an existing bloodline to improve it or get what I wanted. From there I repeat the process

    • @bobbysbucks
      @bobbysbucks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally have bloodlines for years before deciding to scrap them and start over I will let rabbits grow out to six months before starting the breeding process and it takes some time to figure out if a rabbit is going to be the one you’re looking for . A lot of test breeding and raising rabbits along side other blood lines for comparison helps me a lot
      I’ll make a note of this and try to make a video with a better explanation thank you so much

    @kevchard5214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I must disagree with the line breeding. Like dogs, horses, and other animals this will eventually create health issues. I have owned many pure bred dogs and horses and most of them had health issues that my mutts never experience. Diverse genetics creates healthier animals.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Line breeding is a tool used by breeders to improve their bloodline- as well as find hidden genetics that lie within. I didn’t mean to imply it’s the answer to fixing a bloodline experiencing health problems-this is a red flag to outcross or start again fresh. at some point every rabbitry should entertain out crossing- to maintain healthy genetic diversity.

    • @hillockfarm8404
      @hillockfarm8404 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRabbitryCenter Yes, they should outcross even if that means outside the breed(registry), but predigree breeders tend to stick too populair breeders within the breed and are pretty much the only area where eugenics is still defended/justified to the point of fraud/lies about health issues (no not all are culled, not up to standard BUT healthy are more at risk of such culling). Breed standards are still more important than health. So if you (line)breed, cull first on health issues and always let the breedstandard take 2nd place on health. If breedtraits conflict with health, put health first or pick another breed if you are still reading in on what breed you want for rabbit or whatever other animal you are looking for.
      And mind you, what an outsider may/will recognize as a breedstandard related health problem or even something that requires extra basic care, a breeder may not see that way. In some ways love is dangerously blind. So be alert on the limitations that getting advice from breeders gives you.

    13:25- "you can build these things for practically nothing, and then you can sell them for a lot less." (logic = overrated)
