    Breed your rabbits for several fall offs, then go back and breed them later that day for several more fall offs. Yes!! That is great advice that I have been doing for many years and I almost never have a failed breeding or false pregnancy.
    Thanks for your great work supporting the rabbit breeding community, Bobby. Your channel is the best rabbit channel on TH-cam, IMO.

    I cannot resist watching this over and over again the past 5 months. The more i watch and practice the better i understand and get better at breeding. I now realized the significance of re-breeding 8-10 hours later, mostly in the evening and how it helps increased litters from 5 to 6 or 8. Thank you Bobby for your help.

    I got a question. I have 2 females about a year old each and both combined have had about 2-4 successful litters. They would always have them scattered around the ground and I would have to intervene and gather them up and bring them inside. Other times I am not so lucky and they would already be dead by the time I went outside to feed them. I have them outside on dirt so they can burrow and make their own nests like they do in the wild. I feed them twice a day and I was wondering if I am doing anything wrong or I just got 2 rabbits that hate to be mothers. Also, is this behavior genetics?

      Your off spring will inherit one of the two alleles/genes from Dad and one of the two gene/alleles from their mom. Giving them 2 alleles. What those genes are is a mystery and you can find out through test mating what genes your breeders carry. Here’s a video explaining a little more.

    Great video! Quick question. What is the best way to keep track of baby bunnies, at least for male/female, but even perhaps the individual. Since we may sell some of our Rex’s as pets, we did not want to tattoo their ear. We have tried writing with a sharpie marker in their ear, but it only lasts 2-3 days. I tried trying ribbons around their neck, but they take them off in a few hours.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can tattoo odd numbers for females and even numbers for males. If you don't want to tattoo you can use tattoo pliers and add one letter or number to the ears for a quick little tattoo- females 1,3,5,7,9. It's still a tattoo but quick and simple. Shouldn't effect selling them.
      You can also separate them at 6-7 weeks into buck cages and doe cages.

    Hey Bobby, quick question. I have a 1 yr old doe and 1 yr old buck both NZW. Healthy weight.
    Problem is the doe ALWAYS pees after the buck falls off. EVERY TIME. 8 fall offs yesterday and today. 16 pees by the doe. Same thing happened last month too, thought she was pregnant but has been 40 days so went ahead and tried again.
    Why would a doe do this every time? Defective doe? Is she destined for freezer camp, or do you have any tricks for a peeing doe? Thanks!

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would try a different Buck he may be sterile she should still be getting pregnant. If that buck is producing litters with other doe's Be sure to leave the rabbit in the bucks cage for 30 minutes re- breed 8 to 10 hours later you should get a litter after doing this if you still don't get a litter then replace the rabbit.

    • @Mrmike1969
      @Mrmike1969 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRabbitryCenter The other doe rabbits have no problems getting pregnant from the buck.
      The doe in question is just stubborn I guess. Morning of breeding 4 days ago was 4 fall offs and evening was 4 fall offs. Maybe it took this time. She was a grumpy girl and growling for a couple days after the breeding session. Now 4 days in she’s sweet and loving again. Guessing time will tell. No kits this time she’s going to be replaced.
      Thanks for answering me back! Much appreciated! A++++ channel!

    Hey Bobby. You have helped me in the past and now I have another question. I have never combined one litter with another litter in our grow out cages. However, I now have been fortunate enough to get to does and to our surprise they kindled last night, we were not expecting that. We're happy but not ready to build another hutch yet. At the time of weaning the babies can I put different litters in the same grow out cages? We have 14 kits and I only have one very large grow out cage that they could all fit in with a lot of room to spare, but will they fight? We wean around 6 weeks and I don't want to put any of the kits in any danger of being hurt. Any recommendations would help. My kindling cages just aren't big enough to keep the momma 's and 6 and 8 kits in with them.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should be fine until 3 to 4 months old at that point you’ll need to separate them to avoid breeding and battling
      Sexual maturity is approximately 14 weeks so anytime before then is ideal

Do the rabbits seem bothered by them? Thank you for your hard work!

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm so glad you like the videos. We build hide boxes for them so they can escape the bugs and also have a tote system so they can move to that when the bugs are bad. You can try spraying cutter mosquito repellent. Just hook the bottle up to the hose and spray around the hutch area. We use mosquito dunks in our water holes and also have installed a bat house to try to make a difference. amzn.to/3a8Ly75

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Barry! One of the best things about raising rabbits is that they don't take up a lot of space to stay productive. The experts recommend bucks get .5 sqft per pound and nursing doe's need .6 sqft per pound. A 30 x 36 is 7.5 sqft. A buck needs at least 5 square feet to stay happy and productive. A Doe can raise her litter just fine in a 36" x 36" cage for 6-8 weeks.

      When they produce very little litters.
      They will breed 7-9 kits regularly maybe more when you see the numbers go down to 3-4 you know it's time to replace her or him. Your buck has to be fertile too.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chingmakjrnaga649 Yes. It's important to watch and not leave them alone. You want to know for absolute sure that he serviced her. This way you don't breed her when she's already pregnant. For example
      If the embryos already started developing one side of the uterus horn from a previous fall off that you didn't witness. If you don't know and kept trying to breed them. At a later date she could get pregnant and the embryos could start developing on the other side of the uterus horn. In most cases the fist litter will be still born and it's never a healthy birth.
      So for this reason only breed until you witness fall offs. Only complete one test breeding 8-10 hours later.

    I tried breeding my pair the last couple of days. The 1st 2 tries the buck would attempt but the doe never lifted so no fall offs. Another rabbit breeder friend advised we leave them together overnight so we did but then I saw your videos and went to remove her but they’d been together a few hours unsupervised. Stupid I know… ever since then we have tried twice and the buck is not at all interested. Today I checked her vent and it was darker pink and she seemed more interested than the last 4 times but again he is not interested. We will try to cut back his feed for a few days to see if that helps but I’m wondering if she has ruined him in that he is no longer interested. The other variables are yesterday she peed immediately upon getting in his cage which seemed to throw him off. Today my son treated her for ear mites right before putting her in so maybe the smell of tea tree was too much of a distraction? Thoughts?

      try to breed the offspring back to the father of mother or back to the grandpa and grandma vs siblings. if your breeding for meat you can get away with it but you want some genetic diversity as a general rule which makes for a healthy production.

      Absolutely, introduce her to a bucks cage when her vent is red. She’ll be more receptive and this will help with litter size. The fact that she hasn’t been bred in a while could mean she’s slightly overweight and this can cause a small litter.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter

      There’s a good chance your rabbit is still pregnant. The act of mating induced ovulation. At 8 to 10 hours after the mating the egg follicles rupture and this is a perfect time for your buck to service your Doe- this will increase your litter numbers and better your chances for conception. In most cases a second mating isn’t necessary to get a rabbit pregnant.

Do bucks and does who are together have no interest in breeding. They're always cuddled up to each other.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s easier to house sibling rabbits then any other non-related rabbits- in most cases they’ve already established who the dominant rabbit is and who’s the submissive rabbit. They’ll sexually mature around 14 weeks the doe will mount the buck and the buck will mount the doe and they will figure it out eventually -you can make tons of meat for the freezer this way and if you ever want to expand your rabbitry I would purchase two unrelated rabbits. Say, (2) unrelated Doe’s to breed with your buck. You can sell your sibling doe as a proven doe or you could always continue her litters for the freezer and sell the other doe’s litters/Rabbits to pay for Rabbit feed and supplies. Best of luck with your Rabbitry.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter

      That’s a terrific question. Thank you for asking. The upside is, you’ll have more rabbits, and they will look very much like the rabbits you see because there’s no genetic diversity. They most likely will come out looking very well. The down side-when you breed closely related Rabbits regularly, 🧐they’re more prone to health defects because all the positives are amplified as well as the negatives. If you have healthy Rabbits this is a plus and you may not even see any defects. Whenever you experience health defects, that’s a indicator to introduce new blood into your lines. Hope that helps.
