  • CNC Machining some custom Inconel 625 parts, getting ready for assembly. Probably could’ve made them out of a different material… but who else can say that they have a Machined Conference Table with Inconel Feet😂

    I love it.....Travis (the Metrology wizard) CNC's the worlds most expensive table feet...only at Titans, has to be a riot to work at this shop.

    Why didn't you take over the part into the opposite spindle. This would allow to finish the bottom plane and remove the point.

      I think There's no good place for the second spindle to grasp it, due to the thread.
      Also wasting machine time on the nub would be more expensive than grinding it off, while the machine runs the next parts.

      @@xtomass1304 You can grab the part at the hexagon, so no problem.
      Also the expensive thing is always manual work. The rule is: Do as much as possible on the machine.
      Btw. I am running three CNC machines myself, including a three revolver simultaneous Turning/Milling center (Spinner TTS 65 triplex)

      ​@@norbertfleck812 "Do as much as possible on the machine." is a good rule to follow, but there's the occasional situation where you can save on not doing it.
      I work on in-house RND parts and small batches (1-20 parts), when the batch size get larger and we're on a production part that doesn't get revisions, sure do absolutely everything on the machine.
      However for what's demonstrated here (batch of 6 parts, one-off production, i think), keeping the run time low, saving time on programming and freeing the machine up for the next part is more valuable than the 5 minutes of grinding.

    Inconel for a conference table foot.. must be 10,000 degrees in that room from the heated discussions or something :D

    As Inconel 625 is not the easyest Inconel to machine it’s a real challenge to do this for a conference table👍. After assembly it may be able to fly 🤣

      At least the feet will withstand very high temperature in combustion exhaust gases.

      Right? And you cant just go and grind it off when there is surface finish call out on the print

    Hi Travis, awesome work on those sick table feet! How does the speed, feed, and depth of cut parameters for Inco 625 compare to Super Duplex Stainless?
    Reason I ask is that I'm currently machining some Super Duplex parts on a Doosan Puma 240L. Things like rough + finish turning and boring, and internal single point threading. This stuff loves to put huge notches in my roughing and threading inserts, even when using the KCS10B grade.

    i love that 6jaw chuck . And i have a question Titans do you use always CAD for programming or you using for simple operations like this screw Fanuc Guide builded in the machine ? .

    So what kind of part off tool and insert were you using for this material? Looks like it was sticking out quite a bit from the holder and still did a nice job. Charles

      It's a KM50 Modular Grooving head from Kennametal with a roughly 1" stick out modular blade. Insert was Kennametal .1875 wide, grade KCU25.

    Grind off the nub? You have a sub spindle! Why not do another op in that and face off the base?

      At 5:35 you can see the shape/size of the 6 Jaw sub-spindle setup. The jaws look a little big to grab that little hex head.
      He could swap them out, but for an internal part with such low quantities, I wouldn't.

      @@Angle-of-Attack parting off almost always leaves some kind of nub. The part tends to break off before it finishes the cut

      140 SFM, .0019 IPR, Slowed to .0009 IPR at max spindle speed of 1250. I love using this tool to part off. Super rigid; inserts hold up great.

      @@travisjarrett2355 Thanks for giving me your time, yes the style of insert is important. Kennametal has a lot of inserts and while they gave the information for all the tools except this one in the video. Is it an A4,A2 single end, double end? I have Kennametal A2 inserts and like them but I could use something to cut larger material and the other insert they used to sell has been discontinued.

    Inconel 625, what the heck load are you subjecting your conference room table to? Like you were worried about failure with Steel?

      We simply had the right size Inconel in stock and figured, hey we will teach everyone how to Machine Inconel and make the Baddest conference table feet on the Planet at the same time🤯😂😂😂

    Nice work, But I am sorry, You have a Sub-Spindle Chuck, why did you not set it up to grip the hex and part-off the foot and do a simple face to clean up the nub?
    Other than that, nice work.

    I probably have the know how. But, cnc mistakes are expensive. I've luckily only "crashed" twice, soft material, and it was my tooling setup, not my programming.
    A little cad work and tweaking to old programs from the previous guy and i cut times in half or better.
    I just don't trust myself on setups and manual inputs.

      Was limited on the holders for the live tools. This size end mill did fine in a ER-32. Your correct though, anything over 1/4 should be in a holder made for end mills.
