I kept chuckling as you called this a smaller ship. My last 4 cruises have been on a British line with 1300 passengers. This sounds almost too big for me as I refuse to travel on the mega ships. But I’m going to have 111 days on this ship in 2023 and I really enjoyed your tour. Thank you for including the bathroom and the closet area. Very important to me since I’ll be packing warm and cold weather clothes!!
Great Video, I was on the Island Princess in 2010 doing the Same Cruise and Loved It!!! Fantastic Ship for the Alaska Cruise... Staff were Great, Food was good, Cabin was Amazing, Tours were value for Money, And i made a whole Room of American fellow Cruises Swear at the same time, By yelling out BINGO!!! :-)
I’ve been on the Regal three times and will be in this ship to Panama Canal in December. I’m happy to know it’s not a giant like the Regal because I tend to run late and getting anywhere on the Regal takes time.
LOL 100% agree VickieCarla, ensuring you are on time is a sliding scale when it comes to the size of the ship :) Heres to getting back to sailing and happy (and safe) travels. 🦩🍻
Thanks so much for sharing your experience of Island Princess. We are looking at NY, Central America and Panama Canal trip next year on her and we are pleased to see this ship is only marginally smaller than Emerald Princess on which we did a Pacific Island cruise two years ago. Loved every minute of it.
Nice ship tour. How are the entertainment? Were there any dance classes onboard like Zumba or line dance? We were on the Majestic Princess and love that ship.
It’s a great ship! An amazing place to go too, I’m sure you will love it. Thanks for watching and have an awesome trip. Also don’t forget about the quieter viewing areas on decks 10/11!
Thank you for the tour through the Island Princess. I've traveled on the Royal and Crown to Mexico and Caribbean. It is interesting to see the differences of each ship. All have their own personalities.
Its such a great ship, we loved every minute being onboard and fits a great segment in my opinion being able to do the Panama Canal and some of those smaller ports in Alaska. Hope she's around for a while! Thanks for watching & your thoughts Helen T. Happy Travels! 🦩
The only real small ship that Princess has is the Pacific Princess. Don’t forget that if another ship has a larger area for something, it also has to accommodate more people. So as individuals we do not gain more space. The Anytime dining is the formal dining room, it is split in half with the other half for set dining times. We were on the Regal, loved it, in August 2019 for an 11 day Baltic cruise round trip from Copenhagen. Fantastic cruise, probably my fav out of over 20 we have had. We had two nights in CPH prior to cruise at Hotel Bethel, really recommend, right on Newhavn, where you want to be. fantastic city. Thanks for nice video.
Sad to say but Princess sold the Pacific Princess so the Island Princess is now their smallest ship. I sailed on the original Pacific Princess and other smaller ships but have also been on the newer/larger Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess. Will be on Island Princess in July from NYC to Southampton via Greenland and Iceland.
We cruised to Alaska on the Island Princess in 2016. Looks like parts of the ship may have undergone some renovations or upgrades since then. The ship was starting to show her age a little but we still had the most amazing trip! Also, loved Vancouver. We flew in the night before the cruise and stayed at the Pan Pacific hotel that is built on top of the cruise dock - very convenient!
They did a refresh on Island Princess in 2017 and made it quite a bit better which was nice. Vancouver is a great city and the Pan Pacific is a perfect hotel right there definitely makes so as you said so very convenient! Thanks for watching & commenting!
Hi guys, I enjoyed your film of the Island Princess. My wife and I went on this ship to Alaska in 2017 and loved it. This year we were on the Regal Princess cruising Scandinavia and the Baltics. The Regal is bigger and more things to do on it but I felt the dining room food quality was not as good as the Island Princess. Anyway, very thorough movie and your voices are very easy to listen to.
Nice, video, but bit bouncy. Did you cruise into Glacier Bay National Park, is Princess Cruises one of the 2 ships allowed to enter, I want to cruise from Steward to Vancouver soon. Lovely work.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Princess is one of the cruise lines that goes into Glacier Bay National Park. It was absolutely beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed that park do our cruise.
We will be sailing on this ship for 28 days in April 2020 to the South Pacific. Thanks for the tip about the secret space on the 10th & 11th deck. Is there a space like that aft? We sailed the Coral Princess through the Panama Canal 2 years ago and there was a great aft space on Deck 11 with deck chairs. This ship looks a lot like the Coral.
That sounds like an AMAZING trip! Yes the Island Princess and the Coral Princess are sister-ships so the layouts are very similar. There are some places at the back as well (even though the princess deck plans don't show them). When we were on there they were a bit easier to find as they didn't have "DO NOT ENTER" signs you had to ignore however they are there at the back and they are equally amazing!
I was planning a 28 day cruise on this ship but after watching, I am not so sure. No International Café ???? Where can I find late night coffee and pastry after the disco??? Where is the Disco? Is there a Disco? Where is Vines wine bar? Is there a Vines wine bar? - I think you may have given me cold feet! ... But thank you for a nice video!
This video is great. Thank you so much! I just booked an August, 7 Day North Bound (out of Vancouver) on the Island Princess, with the add on to Denali and Mt. McKinley ending in Fairbanks. We are a couple in our 30’s/40’s and this is our first cruise, though we travel a lot internationally and within the USA. We thought this was the best way to see Alaska. Any advice on WiFi and internet prices as well as cell service? We decided to do the drink/alcohol package because we did the math and it was worth it. Also, we selected free dinning which it seems you did as well, would you mind sharing your pros/cons? We also will have a balcony room, is it worth upgrading to a suite (we are celebrating a big birthday)?. Any thoughts on excursions? Some reviews say it’s cheaper and better to book with someone independent instead of through the ship. Any advice would be so welcome! Have a wonderful day!
Patricia G we are going in August as well but Southbound. Just booked our excursions. One through Alaska Shore Tours (whale watch and Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau) and one through Chilkoot Charters (white pass & Yukon railway with dogcart experience) in Skagway. The prices were way better and the reviews on Trip Advisor were phenomenal. Hope that helps!
Great questions! 1) Cell / Wifi - Cell service is pretty good in the main areas and cities we didn't really have an issue. The wifi is pretty slow and fairly expensive. We generally enjoyed disconnecting on the cruise since the wifi is so slow anyhow onboard. Some of the newer ships are going to have much faster wifi (Royal Caribbean have great internet and so do the new Princess Sky ships) 2) Dining - We always pick the free dining, generally speaking we like to go on the excursions so we don't really want to have to be back for a set dining time. The Pros for us is flexibility in time, the Con is there are some fun and unique things with set dining, like sitting with the same group of people, same waiter, etc... You will also only be in one single dining room (technically two but they are both exactly the same). But honestly, its all the same :) 3) Suite - We never really see the value in it, mostly because not in our state rooms that often. The extra space is definitely nice but all in all I'd rather upgrade the excursions then the stateroom. However if you're doing both then why not :) 4) Excursions - Going with the cruise company means if the excursion is late you don't risk missing the ship. That said all the Alaska ones we saw were right at the dock and I'd say you're not likely to be late since its mostly wilderness and very rural areas. I'd say go for the whale watching tours, they ere amazing and get as close to if not on top of the glaciers! We did rock climbing, bear watching, whale watching and kayaking. We had lots of time to explore the port and grab food. Was really fun! I'm sure you will have an awesome trip, thanks for the great ideas for a new video so expect to see a video on this shortly but wanted to get back to you ASAP!
Overall the video was very good. At the end you mention the Mendenhall glacier. You cannot see the Mendenhall glacier from the ship. It's north of Juneau a bit and ends in a lake. The glacier that you showed looked like the Marjorie Glacier at Glacier Bay.
Teenagers come and go in the club without signing. The youngest children need signing in/out by an adult approved by parents, the oldest non-teenagers self-sign in and out independently and the middle group agewise sign in or out or both independently or by approved adults as requested by the parents. In term of space on board ships you should consult the Berlitz Cruise Guide Book which gives a figure for each ship known as "The Passenger Space Ratio" and therefore how much public space per passenger is available. Very well done video, thank you.
Thank you. Yes the ship does have a library. It is a pretty good size with some games and books. I would say it is a little larger than two staterooms put together. It is a nice place to go if you are looking for a quiet place to relax :)
It was fairly mixed, I’d say the average age was 45 on our cruise but the age ranged a lot from very old to younger. We had thought it was going to be all older people but it wasn’t really.
We have a video on why smaller ships are better, you may want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/YveRxxiVc6g/w-d-xo.html. There is definitely an argument for smaller ships that have so much more character to them. Happy Travels Fred!

Fot future reference, stow the suitcases under the bed. Great video. We love Island. Cruised the Med on her in 2015.
Yes, and if you have hard shell cases too fat for this store them fully opened up and they will fit under.

We are so glad you enjoyed the video. Princess does do a great job with Alaskan cruises
I’ve been on the Regal three times and will be in this ship to Panama Canal in December. I’m happy to know it’s not a giant like the Regal because I tend to run late and getting anywhere on the Regal takes time.

Great Video from this nice Ship. Thumbs up.
Thank you for posting this video. We are considering going on the Island Princess on a Panama Canal jaunt. The video helped a lot.
Glad our video was helpful, thanks for letting us know Bob, Happy Travels in 2021! 🦩

Thanks miss Flamingo! We are taking the island for the world cruise, but I agree the Royal Princess was great!
A world cruise! That is amazing. When is it booked for? We are glad you enjoyed the video. Happy travels 🦩
Thank you for sharing, I was wonder what it was going to look like. My husband & I are going on princess to Alaska in July.
It’s a great ship! An amazing place to go too, I’m sure you will love it. Thanks for watching and have an awesome trip. Also don’t forget about the quieter viewing areas on decks 10/11!

They definitely do have their own personalities. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for a great review of Island Princess
We are glad you liked it. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
We are looking forward to our 2021 World Cruise on the Island Princess 🥰☮️🌊
That sounds amazing! Have an awesome time (as I'm sure you will!!)
Very informative video! We'll be taking the same cruise in August
Excellent job, thank you!
Thank you for watching and commenting. Happy travels 🦩
Great tip on the observation decks.
Wonderful review, thank you! God bless!
We loved the Island Princess.

Hey thanks for the information looking forward to going on this ship next year. One question...
Are the pools heated???? Thank you
Yes they absolutely are :) I'm sure you will love going on such a beautiful ship, thanks for watching & happy travels! 🦩
Did the Panama Canal on her. will be on her again in 6 months. Northern Europe out of Southhampton
We want to do the Panama Canal ❤️ have a great Northern Europe cruise. That will be exciting. Happy travels 🦩

We also took Princess for a Baltic cruise and loved it. I would definitely do it again.

Nice video btw. And I think you meant to say Margerie Glacier, not Mendenhall lol. It's all good. Going back in July for my third cruise to AK.
Thanks. There are so many beautiful glaciers it is hard to keep them all straight.
There is no International Cafe in the Piazza on this ship. Was the Patisserie just as good? Thank you for this video.
No, it wasn't quite the same as on the Regal and Royal, and it wasn't open 24/7 unfortunately. Was more just coffees.
Thank youFor the information.
And thank you for watching and commenting Rosemarie! Happy Travels 🦩

Thanks for the walkthrough. We've been on the Regal twice now, love that boat..
Thanks, we do too its an amazing ship. Can’t wait for the Sky Princess!
I read that this ship has a library but it wasn't in the video. Does this ship have a library and is it any good?
Thank you. Yes the ship does have a library. It is a pretty good size with some games and books. I would say it is a little larger than two staterooms put together. It is a nice place to go if you are looking for a quiet place to relax :)
Traveling Flamingo thank you
I added the two photos we had if that helps as well. imgur.com/a/Eii8WX7
Very well done.
Thank you very much and thank you for watching!
I’m taking the ship to Israel and Eastern Mediterranean. October2022
Oh wow that is going to be an amazing cruise! Have fun and happy travels 🦩
Nice!
Great video but who goes to a creole restaurant and orders steak and shrimp?
Too bad you covered more of the kids play area than the main dining rooms which I look forward to for my Dec 22 Panama cruise.
Have a great trip thanks for watching! Happy Travels.
What would you say are the age groups? Are there a lot of older people
It was fairly mixed, I’d say the average age was 45 on our cruise but the age ranged a lot from very old to younger. We had thought it was going to be all older people but it wasn’t really.
Island Princess was designed fot the Panama Canal, not Alaska.
Flamingo we are on this ship for a world cruise
Wow that is amazing! A world cruise is on my bucket list
9:20 Chess is set up correctly; White King and Queen need to be switched
Thanks for watching. Wow, very observant.
Yes a smaller ship less amenities so don't put it down

Your 2 big suitcases would go best UNDER the bed! (Not in your closet)
