- ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti and Craig Burley react to comments from Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini that Mario Balotelli is a "negative person" and Felipe Melo is the "worst of the worst" made in the Italian's recent book. Marcotti expresses his surprise at the comments from Chiellini, saying he doesn't see a situation where the Italian comes out looking sharp.

Balotelli hasn't been apart of the national team for some time and the national team has no plans of allowing Balotelli back in the squad. He is 29 years old and a head case, his time with the national team is over so he isn't so much a teammate of Chiellini as much as a former teammate that was essentially banned from the national team. Context matters.

Oh am so disappointed in Chiellini. I think he has played with equally bad Italian players if not worse but man decided to pick on the foreigners and the ones who have always been tagged as the bad guys. Honestly I have been watching ESPN fc for a while and I'm getting tired of Craig's nonchalant attitude towards every single topic..where is his professionalism? Didn't Jose Mourinho once say that Mario Ballotelli was unmanageable? Remember that Champions League game when Mario was on a yellow card and Mourinho begged him to be careful not to get another yellow card because he was the only fit striker that Inter had? Remember how just 1 minute after the 2nd half started, Ballotelli went and got a second yellow card and was sent off? Chiellini isn't always the best at dealing with public controversy (remember Moise Kean?) but I think he had a point in this case.

At least there is something to talk about. I think this is why everybody loves these kind of books. There is some slandering and that makes talking points. Would anybody read the biography of Chiellini otherwise? He is a good defender and was world class at some point but is his story really interesting enough to sell many books, especially in the non Italian world? I'm a hardcore football freak but the only reason I think about Chiellinis biography once is the gossiping which is brought to me by the media.
He doesn't play with them anymore. He's entitled to have his say at this point. Absolute nonsense to expect players to be all nicey nice about players who clearly did play a part in failure for their teams. Balotelli especially has always had an awful attitude.

Cheilini's words have some truth to it. Balotelli's career speaks for itself. Didnt live up to his potential at all. We may debate the timing of these claims or whether it was worth being said.
As someone else mentioned in the comments, people want honesty until they get it. They may call Chiellini unprofessional and stuff, but the truth is that both of them deserved it, and instead of going all over chiellini, we must wonder what made a person like him say all of this. I mean Suarez bit him, but he still has cordial relationship with him so that means that these guys must have done something really bad to rile him up like this.

I’m sorry but from day one I felt Mario Balotelli never should have played for Italy 🇮🇹. Yes he was born and raised there but they never accepted him as one of them and he in no way helped himself with his antics. Frankly his performances for them has been below par with the Euro 2012 semi final being his only top performance in the Azzurri jersey. I always felt he should have played for Ghana 🇬🇭 because at the end of the day regardless of what his birth certificate says he is Ghanaian. He has wasted every opportunity he’s been given and frankly it’s no surprise Chiellini has come out saying what he has.
