Pardew thinks they're light on left footers and wants to leave Branthwaite at home. Say's he would have had a 6ft 8in Burns, Branthwaite is 6ft 5in who's played at left back and the left hand side of central defence. Even if he doesn't play he is a cover for both positions.
I wouldn't be taking Southgate to Germany.

I’m surprised nobody is really talking about Gordon playing, he will work by far the hardest on the left side, and if Trippier plays they’ll have good chemistry. He put up double figures in assists and goals too, and with Kane dropping in a lot he’ll be able to get behind defences better than the other options who play to feet much better.

Depends who we are playing against. Gordon will work well against teams who push up high as he loves playing on the shoulder of last defender. Can only see Foden taking LW spot at the moment

I liked the pace we kept up and the first half was fine. These games are about seeing a player in real situations. I thought Palmer, Eze, Trent, Wharton particularly showed some really nice moments. I thought Konza showed he wld be useful in a squad in case of injuries in some areas or if you needed to strengthen the flanks defensively to protect a lead.
Put Wharton holding midfield , then rice can play the role he does for arsenal

The Gallagher and Wharton combination needs to be developed. They seemed to be working well together and controlled the midfield for good parts of the short time they were together.

Villa fan here. Konsa ok at facing up but dreadful at dealing with crosses. Just check any footage of us conceding and always looking fore someone to blame. Shown up in our last few games. One villa fan here not convinced with him for our us never mind England.

He thinks he has all the answers and it's clear he doesn't respect anyone's opinion who hasn't played professionally. Some of the lowest IQ individuals have played professionally and they're absolutely clueless about tactics and coaching. He dismisses stats because he's an arrogant dinosaur who can't take on board new ideas. The English game is rife with these kinds of characters, which is precisely why our coaching standards are so low in comparison to those on the continent.

Eze should go as like Grealish would be a real good impact sub with how he plays and how creative and direct he is.

Most pundits are ex-pros who aren't very bright. People who aren't very bright are often slow to pick up on stuff like how names are supposed to be pronounced. Smart people will hear it once or twice, realise, and then make the adjustment, some people don't notice it, and even some who eventually notice it won't ever make the adjustment, they just use whatever sounds closest, which is often a name they've heard before somewhere. It's about focus and attention.
Call him what you want, but he's still a clumsy, lumbering defender that England doesn't need.

The issue is the left back. Trippier can’t use his left foot and is error prone.

Let this sink in before England fans celebrate: Southgate has a 14% win record against Top 10 teams with just 4 wins out of 27. So any team England meets will have an 86% chance of beating them. England have a bad defence, no established tactics or pattern of play and generally look confused. tired and lack a playmaker in midfield. They have 0.0001% chance of winning the Euros.

We've got a number of star-studded players who all play in the same area of the pitch, the rest of the squad, particularly the defence and goalkeeper is an absolute s**t show.

You could play Maguire in midfield and he’d look good against teams like Bosnia and Iceland, against the big teams Trent would be run ragged in midfield
If Trent could defend he would walk into that RB position. But no, not ahead of Walker. I would have him in but only in a change of formation, like a 3-2-4-1 Pivot with Rice, but Gareth wont do that.
It’s sloppy to not have included Ruben Loftus Cheek in the squad. He definitely deserved a place over some of the other midfielders.

Eze, phil, kane, cole and saka as a front 5 with jude, rice, trent, stones and trips as the block and playmakers is probably the best team in the world rn let alone euros. Any team that goes into a low block and play 10 or 11 at the back for 90mins will get picked apart with that team and if they dont low block we will just play thru them with total sauce and swagger there is no way every player i just listed cant start a game maybe an exception for trips just bc he has recently came back from injury near eots and form wasnt the best at eots but for england has always been class and obviously pickford has to be in goal. The bench is going to be stacked with experience and youth. Cutting players out is the hardest now since southgate got the job

Is it just me that doesn’t think Trent is good enough in tight spaces to play in the middle? He would have made a brilliant right winger in a 442 but a central midfielder he is not. Would like to see him get more minutes at right back especially against weaker teams or if we are chasing the game
The problem is that people are judging him in that position for England after playing there against teams that sat off our DM at a tactic. Trent has had all the space and all the time in the world to get his head up and play unhurried passes. Put him in there against a top team who press high, flooding that area of the field and we'll see that he's not the guy for it - they'll jump all over him as before he even knows the ball has arrived at his feet, and he's prone to making errors under pressure. Wharton would be a better option, even at 20.

How in all seriousness can you drop Konsa?? "even if this is a laugh" many people who are saying that they would leave both Konsa and Watkins?? There has always been a debate about who's the best between Watkins and Toney?? Before Toney got suspended it was absolutely neck and neck with both excellent forwards!! But since his suspension finished he's been miles away from the player he was! "in my opinion". But I think Southgate has done the right thing by selecting both instead of choosing one or the other!!.

He had two entertaining runs that looked impressive but he faded in the first half and then did nothing between the start of the second half and being hooked off.
The instant Grealish came on, the width and the cleverness to get dangerous balls in and around the 6 ysrd box was prevalent. Madders should have scored but slipped. He created the situation for the Kane tap in and found Trent perfectly. Just facts.
I'm a United fan. If we get Eze I'll be happy as he has a great attitude and talent but in his chance to show he deserves to be in the mix with all those attacking options, he didn't actually do anything.
'Ghosting past players' is all well and good but there was no end product.
@@RobertJones-xq1si Palace fan here, when Eze switches off it can be very frustrating, since Glasner has come in and changed how we play it suits Eze a lot more as there is real purpose in attack. Playing with wing backs has meant we create the width through those players and Eze and Olise operate as two 10s... Make no mistake Eze is *not* a winger!
He can pester & show strength defensively but he can also get himself into trouble in his own half and when a team has slow build ups and constantly recycle the ball, he can get bored and switch off! Gareth is a younger version of Roy Hodgson with how it feels to watch his teams play, this will only be more likely to bring out these poorer aspects of Eze's play.

Maybe one for the future but when you've got equally young players tearing it up in England and Spain I think he'd be very lucky. Wharton is cover for Rice. I would leave home Dunk, Quansah, Trafford, Jones, Maddison, Bowen and Grealish unless we have players who are injured and can't recover in time. If Shaw and Maguire don't recover i would leave them home and bring Grealish.
Branthwaite is going to be an England central defender for the next 10 years. He should go for the tournament experience.
Maguire is Southgate's first name on his list.

Thought when all the substitions were made accept for kane we were worse... Maddison Grealish Kane move to the player with the ball bring the opposing defence with them closing the space so we end up sideways and backwards... Bowen Palmer Eze look for holes beyond the midfielders and backline pushing defenders backwards creating more space.. Bowen would be a defenders nightmare... runs at them full tilt.. actually puts crosses in and tracks back at pace and puts tackles in on the fullbacks... reminds me of Ribbery..great energy and commitment...for me he shades it over Saka. Trent offers options with superb passing... we need more variation.. we play to many similar players so its easier for teams to set up against us.. play player with different skill sets makes life more difficult for the opposition

Not a big game player. He's at his best as a front-runner when the pressure is off. He'd be fine in the group stage, but not in the knock-out stages.

@@VeeTuTonic Not necessary, thanks. He was invisible in CL and tournament elimination games. And his goals generally came when the result was already clear -- mostly add-ons or consolation. Even then, those games weren't very high pressure, as Newcastle's season was pretty much a write-off at the time. Also, I love that deliberate red card he took very late in one game so that he could conveniently avoid playing Everton in the next one. He's just a front-runner -- very good when it's easy to be good, and vanishes when things get tough. Perfect for England.

Exactly. He made a horrendous decision when he went inside into a crowd of players and lost it halfway into their half when we had a bunch of players ahead of the ball. Do that in those dangerous situations/positions Vs top sides and we'll be punished.

I don't really undestand what game people watched Eze play. He was pretty poor in the first half, a couple of nice dribbles seem to have pulled the wool over everyone's eyes. He's not particularly quick, he is strong and well balanced, but certainly not electric.
It cracks me up them saying early doors oh trent was quality in midfield, I'm sorry he doesn't play in cm at all for england. Against any team with anything about them he's useless. You should rewatch the game against Brazil. Multiple times he made bad decisions when pressing players - he gambled on the Brazilians going backwards and lost them - they went through and almost scored. It was really fortunate that we didn't concede while he was on the pitch. I think he can work if you put him in a 3 with Wharton and Rice, but then you've got no Bellingham or Foden.
