I knit everything on my 80cm cable and just pull the one needle through if i run out of space. The wire is flexible so you can just keep knitting in the round and have it still look good. For the smallest circumferences i us flexitips, feels much safer then DPN. Always scare i'll take a eye with those. I also pick up dropped stitches with a crochet hook if it goes a few rows deep, just loop it back up. That was the best tip i came across a few years ago. So happy you included it! Enjoyed listening to the tips!
Great video. My advice would be to hold your needles loosely. I'm a drummer and my teacher taught me that you need to hold your sticks just loose enough that he could come by and pull the sticks out from the back of your hands. If you learn to knit with this loose grip, you will never cramp and you will be able to knit for hours without fatigue.
Great video❤! This is what I needed to see when I started knitting but I’m happy it’s available now for future crafters. I completely agree with starting with a pattern that has a video tutorial alongside it, because it really helped me understand what patterns are and how to read/interpret them. I wish there was a round up of patterns with accompanying video tutorials, this would be the ideal one stop shop for beginners. However, I’m happy florence blessed us with the step by step sweater😅
Nice video. My mother taught me how to crochet earlier this year (I’m in my 50’s), and have been wanting to learn knitting now that I’m finishing up my second crochet cardigan. I bought a sample set of circulars in metal/wood so I could figure out what needle material I like. My first knitting projects will be the same as my first crochet projects: swatches in the basic stitches, and then some scarves (where gauge doesn’t matter so much) in various stitch patterns so I can focus on my tension consistency, muscle memory, and speed. What I eventually want to make are sweaters in merino & tunics/Tees in bamboo or bamboo/cotton blends.
Great video! I will add that you should probably learn how to do the magic loop method which allows you to knit smaller projects/sections on longer cords. That way you don’t have to move your project to bigger needles so you would technically only need 1 set of circular needles with a long cord vs 2 different lengths or a whole kit
I think you could add the Ranunculus sweater to the list of beginners patterns. While it looks complicated, the instructional videos that accompany it are very helpful. A lot of people have made multiple versions of it and it has over 20,000 projects completed on Ravelry - they can’t all be expert knitters. I loved making it and it fits perfectly and it is a fairly fast pattern to complete. Be brave and give it a go!
I started knitting around the same time as you! I love ur videos and things you’ve made. I’m currently working on the Fort sweater by Brooklynn Tweed, and I WISH i started with a raglan/project with a video. This pattern was definitely written for more experienced knitters, and I’ve hit a lot of walls cause I wasn’t catching on to more vague wording/phrases. I’ve had to restart 6 times, but your videos have given me LIFE to keep going. Love ur content xxxx. PLS do a tier list on yarns you’ve tried/made projects with eventually!!!
yay! I'm so glad you found my channel :) the Fort sweater looks so intimidating haha is it knit bottom up?? Cudos to you for perservering! I definitely would have given up after the second try lol. and thank you for the video request! I haven't used many yarns yet so might wait a few months but great idea - I'll add it to the list :)
Ok, this is by far the best, most easy-to-understand beginner knit video I’ve ever seen. I’ve been crocheting for only a year but have been too apprehensive to try knitting because I just didn’t get it. Your video made all the pieces fall into place for me. Thank you tor explaining everything the way you did, it helped so much! 💗🙏🏽🧶

LOVE this tip! totally agree - loose and relaxed is the way to go
Save your first project no matter what the result. Thank you for your energetic and informative video.

thank you so much! yes me too - I'm making it my mission to create a beginner-friendly Ravelry bundle. Do you have any patterns you recommend?
@@alexjames_fiber yeah, I do have a couple. I can email or dm them to you. Also, I think some of the patterns from kutovakika are beginner friendly.
I LOVE kutovakika's designs !! From what i can tell (I'm still a beginner myself) she has some beginner friendly designs and some advanced designs 😊

Great video Alex. I think it's going to help lots of beginners. X
I love this! I've been knitting for ~6 months and I wish I had a comprehensive info dump like this at the time!
thank you so much! me too haha

yes!! Circular needles are so versitile. Honestly I prefer magic loop to small circumference needles sometimes. Thanks for your comment 🤗
