That’s interesting about the extra pressure a buffer tank gives. Even if your machine can only keep up with the tap pressure from the property, it would help when other taps are open in the property from stealing your pressure.
Did this years ago when our local council decided to charge our area for green wheelie bin waste so i kept the bin and used it like this for my pressure washer as i'm on first floor flat with no outside tap. Great video and idea for others who like me don't live on the ground floor with an outside tap. Stay safe.
Hello mate, you mention at about 9:02 that you’d recommend connecting a filter that goes on the inside of the wheelie bin, fitted onto the outlet that goes to the jet wash. I typed in “3/4” filter” onto Google but very new to jet washes so no clue which one I should get. If you have the time would appreciate if you could drop in the comment here a link to one that I could buy with this set up. Thanks mate!
Was thinking of doing some pressure washing for a summer job this year. Much better than gardening!. Seen the buffer tank online and it’s pretty expensive for what it is. I have a spare wheelie bin so it’s definitely worth making a buffer tank myself. This video will definitely help! Thanks
I made one years ago, got fed up with the restriced flow rate, so I ended up using a high flow rate bowser fill valve, so the flow & water replenish rate was perfect
Nice info, this is what I wanted to know when I started my pressure washing business last year. Having the parts and links listed is a nice touch. One thing I have learnt is to go for a 3/4 (19mm) hose rather than the standard 1/2 hose. Especially moving water from the tap to the bin over longer distances. It's less of a bottleneck for water supply, especially if using a 21lpm machine. All the best Paul
This is the best video ive found. Very descriptive. It would be good if you made 2 bins that you could link together if you had a lot of power washing to do. But fair play for the details and links
I had to replace the valve in my toilet cistern last year, I bought a cheap one from an eBay seller , paid less than £5 inc. & it fills really fast, almost no restriction to speak of, the old valve would take a few minutes to fill the cistern, the new one fills in about 25 seconds. The eBay valve looked really cheap as well but works perfectly. Mine cistern is a bottom fill type but you could still use that type of valve by having a lower fill point with a pipe elbow (90°] fitting inside your tank.
This is a fantastic video and I've seen quite a few. Are you happy with the 120l bin or do you wish you'd gone for a bigger one seeing as there's not much price difference.
hi mate ive got the float valve but it didnt come with the washers and i see you have water connector fitted any chance you could send me a link for parts to buy for connecting the water supply to the float valve, thanks for all the info you provide well impressed.
Glad i came across your channel looking to start this service i have a small van so this set up is perfect for me , i have afew questions do you leave the garden tap running while you are jet washing so there is a constant flow or do you wait for the bin to empty the just refill ? Also what products do you spray / apply to the driveways before you jet wash ?
Got myself a free bin 👍 just looking to order the parts, the float valve is 1/2 inch will that still work if i get a 3/4 inch hose coming from the tap? Thanks
Sound mate I have a 600 litre ibc tank would you know what attachment to get so it like the one you Have used in this video my tank come with a normal hose attachment and the water comes out to slow with that
Hi mate, sorry I thought it came with them! I think they're 1/2 inch washers, you can get them from any local plumbers merchants. Grab some 3/4 inch ones while you're there too
Hey mate, I see you are using a Kiam, I'm just starting out and have bought the KM3200P which came with a water suction kit. Connected it all up today and dropped the suction hose with filter into a barrel and got nothing out when I started the machine?! Am I being thick?! Any advice would be great 😩👍🏼 thanks
Could I ask you where you got the washer that attaches to the float valve. I bought the same one but it never came with the white washer you use to secure it to the tank ? It’s doing my head in trying to find one that fits 😂
hi ive ordered and recieved the ball valve and the 1/2 inch water control valve(1/2 inch) i cant find what you call a fill valve which im assuming fits on to the water level valve and then obviously i can connect customers hose do you have a link for the fill valve please
Hi mate, sounds like the "water level valve" and "fill valve" are the same thing. It's just a single small unit as shown in the video, if you've got that bit, you just need to add a hose connector on and you're good to go
@@SMOUT_ hi again ive relooked at your video and if you was to be kind enough to look at it 50 seconds in it is the white part im assuming half inch which you have attached to the bin and the grey part you screw into that as its filtered i believe my dusty bin is being delivered tommorow and i have my very 1st job at the weekend any help with those parts i would be eternally gratefull thanks
Guys i need urgent help please, if I get a 10 liter a minute, 3200psi pressure washer for commercial use in London, england, will kitchen taps in here be able to give enough flow for my pressure washer? Or do I need one of these buff tanks? I ask because I dont have a car amd have already commited to getting all equipment and dont know what to do if right at the moment of truth my pressure washer doesnt work in the customer tap, as most house in london dont have an outside tap...
Get yourself aa 'Arctic Hayes U-Flow Water Gauge - Water Flow Measure' usually about £20.00 and check your own flow rate to see what you have at home, and decide from there. TBH if you can afford a machine with a higher LPM (liters per minute) then buy it. There are videos on TH-cam comparing flow rates and you'll soon see that the higher the flow rate the faster you'll clean. Most of the videos are american and talk about gallons per minute, for a quick conversion 1 gallon = 4.5 liters
No worries. If the customers water supply doesn't have enough flow to keep up with the demand of your machine, you'd start filling this as soon as you arrive on site and it will give you 120L of water to burn through before you have to stop. Meaning you aren't starving your pump of water. You can use whatever size tank you like to suit your vehicle.
In the UK, a 15LPM machine isn't likely to get the water it needs from probably 90% of customers taps. It varies from house to house, but I wouldn't want to risk starving my pump as you're just going to cause damage. Best to have a buffer tank instead of risking it in my opinion.
So im going to attempt to make a buffer tank aswell, However the float valve is no longer in stock, so I found another but I have to choose between sizes DN-15, DNS-15, DN-20 and DNS-20, Anybody able to give an insight to which one I need I know the numbers represent the mm but Im not sure which one as Smouts original one in description has no size on description in amazon? Cheers
Best explanation and demonstration of how this works that I have seen on TH-cam. Thanks!

Great idea 👍you can get the ball valves with a built in strainer to prevent any debris from tank going into jet wash to make it even better 👍
Ryanmasn do you have a link for the ball valve with the strainer in .
@spencerj1413 google combination strainer ball valve..you'll get tons of options 🎉
I like how you guys over the pond use trash cans as buffer tanks

We use a 22mm brass float valve the water flow is almost identical, the plastic ones are much slower
Mate great vid. Wish I’d found it 10 months ago when I was pulling my hair out. Good work geez.
Thanks mate glad you found it useful
Very well presented and informational
Great video. Game changer. What’s the brass bush that screws into the ball valve please
@smout can you link the standard hose connection with the filter which fits into the filvalve at 0:51
One question how do you connect the hose pipe from the ball valve to the pressure washer?
That's exactly what I was wanting to know. I think you can use an internal threaded adapter from toolstation. I've not tried yet though.
So I got the internal adapter and it works a treat. Brass I think it was about £1.50. Probably need to put tape on in case it leaks
Thank you thank you thank you I have been needing one of these and just bought it for my tank!
This is a fantastic video and I've seen quite a few. Are you happy with the 120l bin or do you wish you'd gone for a bigger one seeing as there's not much price difference.
The float valve doesn’t come with the rubber washer/gasket and nut that you show in the video, where did you get them from ? Cheers 👍🏻
Thank you for this video bud!
very detailed!
No problem at all, thanks for watchin
Superb. Thanks so much I'm just starting out on a budget so this is valuable to me..thanks so much for this video.
You say about a filter to go on the inside on the tank. Do you have a link as to were to get it from please 🙏.
Can you give me a list of items I need and instructions?
Where did you get the plastic white nuts from to connect the fill valve mine didn’t come with any mate ?

Hi Where abouts did you get your connection that you put your hose lock connector to?
Might it help to use 3/4” hosepipe rather than 1/2”? I know that it’s often the flow rate out the two though that impedes it.
Very well made video mate.
How would I connect a hose to the bottom connector just done this to my bin and where did you get the plastic washer for the top fill ?
Pressure washer does it matter if direct drive or axial pump to work gravity Feed

The Tank connector link is for a 1/2 did you make a merstake or was it a 1/2 you used..
Hi mate, can you please tell me what piping and adapters are needed to run water from the 3/4 inch tap to the washer
Where did the fill valve come from. Can't find it anywhere
Water seems a bit slow. My normal garden tap filled a 15 litre bucket in 16 seconds.
Got myself a free bin 👍 just looking to order the parts, the float valve is 1/2 inch will that still work if i get a 3/4 inch hose coming from the tap? Thanks
Or will a regular hose be ok? I'm guessing you have a 3/4 from the tank to the washer?

Hey man does a can pump triplex 3.1 gpm self suction?
I made one similar but added the filter that I got with my pressure washer
Have a feeling the timing was wrong at the end because with the exact same equipment I'm only getting 13.5lpm
Hi mate. I got the float valve. Do you have a link to the rubber washers and plastic nut to fix it to the tank. Or what size do I get. Tia. 👍🏻
