  • After our vacation cruise, we stayed in Florida for an extra week to find reptiles in the wild. We were not disappointed! We found so many that we have to break up the video into two parts! And you are NOT going to believe what we found in Part 2!!

Ed & Emily……Thank you. I’ve lived in south Florida for all of my 62 years. I have euthanized 3 snakes that were hit by cars, still alive but way beyond help. It’s the hardest, yet easiest decisions I’ve made because I can’t stand to see any animal suffer. I’m so sorry she was gravid. That just makes it so much worse😢

It is super sad to hear about the gravid snake. It's a good thing you found her though to help her move on. What you did saved her from possibly hours of more suffering, still sad but better knowing she's free from the pain now. Sorry you had to do that but sometimes the right thing to do is the hardest thing to do. Thank you for being amazing people!
The garter snake is so beautiful. Honestly they should have their own name like the California red-sided garter snakes. Just call them Flordidian blue garter snakes.

I'm sorry you had to do what you did for that female. Just know you did what was best. I had a wild caught garter snake for a while growing up. One I caught myself. As an adult I've always wanted a snake just never had the money to do it' properly. Most likely I'll always be a wantbe. Love your video's

You have taught ME so much, as I watch this with my son (4yr old) and I've always been very afraid of snakes. You've been teaching me otherwise, and this is what I wanted to also teach my son. I don't want my fear to be his fear. So THANK YOU.

I didn’t realize that garters varied in color so much by region.
In my area they’re more green. They’re typically more of a drab green that borders on shades of brown or taupe, but some appear to be _very_ green.
Usually they’re shades of olive or army green and they have a yellowish or orange stripe down their spines.
I thought the different colored garters shown on SD and other reptile channels were from captive breeding alone.
I had no idea they were colos that existed widely in the wild.
I just figured a garter snake was a garter snake and the ones here looked the same as the ones on the other side of the country.

That Corn snake is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing how it got it's name, I assumed it was due to their eating rodents, and so being seen hanging around grain stores! As for the sad part, you can tell true animal lovers, because they will do the hard thing. It must have been an horrendous thing to see an animal go through, and alleviating the suffering is absolutely the ethical decision. That it took an emotion toll on you both is apparent, and speaks to how compassionate you both are, it's why we love you. I am so sorry that all involved had to go through it, I dread to think how long she would have continued to suffer had you not been the ones to come by. Much love, and deep gratitude

I still remember awhile back I was on my way home from a friends house and I came across this big turtle. I don't remember what kind it was; but I do remember that it was in its shell. Well before I could turn around this truck comes along and slows down and attempted to run over the poor thing. Luckily the truck was going slow enough and the turtles shell was strong enough that instead of the truck going running over it, the turtle ended up shooting out from underneath said truck and slid down the road a few feet. The truck then turned around to try and run over it again; but I was able to get the turtle out of the road before the truck could come back. I put the turtle so far off the road that who ever was driving the truck would have had to walk a good ways to get said turtle. I also made sure the truck left the area before I left.
As for the toads the second one was most likely female. Female toads get chunky and huge. I was kind of hoping though that they would have found a Cane Toad. I have two Cane Toads and they are actually neat toads, although massive in size.
