He will likely live long enough to breed and spread his genes. So that's a win in nature. But it is a lot better to let him go then to pull him from the wild.

This is the reason why I love your videos: any other youtube channel would have taken it home to keep the viewers posted on the animal exploiting it to get views and risking the health of the rest of their pets. Wild snakes are more chill because they’re happier in the wild and used to more noises and movement. Imagine how skittish a human would be if you kept them locked in their bedroom 23 hours a day.
This channel is amazing, I was on a school trip to plantasia (an educational sanctuary) and we were shown a snake I saw it and immediately knew from its look that it was a cornsnake being honest I’m still shook to this day! And I learnt that from this very channel!

If that is the case. It would have been better for the animal to get him to the local DNR with info on where he was found. So if tested positive for the fungal disease. The animal could be humanly euthanized. And the DNR or local fish and wildlife office could study the area and look for anymore infected animals. Leaving the animal out there to suffer or spread the fungus to other snakes is just wrong. I'm not talking about taking the animal and keeping for themselves. Putting their own animals at risk. The fungal disease is spreading like wildfire through some rattlesnake population. So much so that the once healthy populations are now endangered, protected, or at risk. Kind of an irresponsible thing to do, just leaving it out in the wild. If it wasn't fungus. For the safety of the animal. It would probably be best to remove it from the wild.

@@cookie856 Maybe it swooped down but didn't get a good grip. Birds are super good predators, but even they make mistake sometimes. The snake might have moved off quickly enough that by the time the bird realized it hadn't caught it the snake was already somewhere safe.

As an Australian in an area with plenty of venomous (and deadly) snakes, the thought of going out and handling wild snakes is genuinely terrifying
They know enough to make sure they are safe. It's definitely not a good idea to pick up snakes you're not absolutely sure about.
There are some venomous snakes in the USA, but the people in the video are educated enough to know which snakes are safe to mess with.

I understand the safety problem and I am not saying that the choice was incorrect, however, I can't shake that kinda "no man left behind" feeling if that makes sense. It saddens me.

If they kept him it would have cost alot of money because of parasite and possible infections/ diseases
They can’t keep him because he probably has that fungal disease. The disease could infect all of their snakes at home and there’s no cure
