I just found your channel. I been self-teaching how to repair old arcades since I own one. I know low activity can be discouraging, but keep going, keep it positive, it'll gain traction. I don't even get family sometime to respond so try not to take it personal. I find your videos highly informative and entertaining, Thank You!
This chassis has two grounds, a "hot" ground, and a "cold" ground, which is typical in switching power supply designs. Most TVs will have the hot and cold sections of the chassis marked, but arcade monitors typically don't have this convenience.
The golden rule is that after each repair of a monitor, especially when it is older than 5 years, the electrolytic capacitors in the mains must be changed.
Great video. I have a dead Sanyo EZ-20 monitor that worked before I moved the arcade cabinet. Pretty sure I broke it--not sure I can fix it, but going to give it a try.
I have a large 40 inch consumer set where I cant for the life of me fix a pin cushion circuit problem. The horizontal picture is maxed out and adjusting in service menu does nothing. However horizontal position and vertical adjustments work fine. So I’m pretty sure it’s the pin circuit but have no schematics to know where that is
It's pretty safe to open these things up and just mess with the convergence rings and focus so long as you don't touch the deflection yoke, the anode cap, the transformer, or the circuitry, right?
You really know what you're doing with CRTs! I have a purple blotch on the bottom left corner of mine, it's just a normal TV, not a true arcade monitor. Now that you mention it, it used to do that de-gausing "thump" but not anymore. I've also bought a degaussing wand, the circular motions didn't help, but randomly flicking the button on the wand at random positions around the screen made it go away temporarily but it comes back. Do you have any ideas?
Teken 3 plays blind I have put caps in now I’m stuck because I don’t no how to make a super gun with the correct power supply & transformer to check games like you are doing help???????????please Thankyou your awesome
Although I agree that this a good video and appreciate the effort, I find your method of tracing very backwards. The first thing should have been a visual inspection, caps, diodes transistors etc. That should have been check 1. We don't see any of those components almost until the end of the video, just the underside of a PCB. Also, CRTs are known to blow transistors and caps quite frequently, that should have been check 2. And if all these fail, only then, voltage tracing should have come. And you do some dangerous things like probing random pins when in diode check mode. Be careful. Thanks for sharing.
CREATE!, why does an arcade monitors have a B+ voltage for the H&V sync hold circuit? The B+ voltage is a Bias voltage for the H&V sync circuit? but you have to set it at 125vdc which is a big DC offset bias voltage which doesn't make sense to me for the H&V sync hold circuit to work correctly, any reasons why?
can you explain how the arcade monitor converts the Vertical and horizontal sync signals into X and Y coordinates on the CRT screen. The spirit ROM and Character ROM don't have the X and Y coordinates so how does it get encoded and decoded by the hardware in the arcade monitor?
I’m only 4:15 in, is this a dead power supply? Guess I’ll find out finishing it, working on something you decide you want to live forever I’d plan on replacing every single capacitor, however it would be nice to know the condition of the tube before dumping a lot into it, but most of these capacitors are actually all bad, even in some sets working, I’ve seen some in what someone would call working condition that you would be amazed at how much life a capacitor refresh brought back to the picture. At any rate I doubt this was kept in a cool environment it’s whole life and for the first part of it probably ran non stop so it’s got stressed capacitors. That horizontal driver looked cheap as hell, should have used the heavier duty one but I guess they cheaped out on it. It may have not been bad though, testing it in circuit isn’t always going to tell you much about it, the capacitors ESR May have just killed that voltage regulator. Those things can be sensitive, from the looks of it that power supply had been driven hard due to the darkened areas on the board. I would have replaced all large value caps but that’s just me.
I just recapped my monitor and now when I try to power it on, I can't get anything from the monitor. Similar to your video, nothing is coming on in on the monitor. The coils don't light up either. I'm guessing I need to go back and reexamine all my soldering points to make sure I didn't introduce a short?
Okay so I went back to check my soldering work and cleaned some stuff up. It did end up working when I plugged it back in. However, it STOP working after 5 minutes! It just shut off. Any ideas? Could it be a power issue rather than the monitor itself?
Im looking for some help on my jamma board for Golden tee 97 arcade model , the volume was not hooked up and as i tried to hook it up i have no volume pot to adjust it and when i hook it direct to a speaker in the cabinet its full blast , and wiring diagram or help would be appreciate , thank you
i bought a street fighter 2 machine and the monitor turns on and you can see it but the picture is slanted and also is slightly faded, any chance you know whats wrong and is there and way of fixing it?
I bought a mk3 machine and the monitor turns on and you can see it but the picture is slanted and also is slightly faded any chance you know what's wrong is there and way of fixing it?
Hi. I own two Commodore crt monitors. The 1701 and 1702 model. Both in perfect shape and working. Would like to keep it that so I was asking myself if there is any need to replace the caps on the PCB? What's your opinion in this?
NiekkieNick recaps are always good for old equipment provided you buy good ones. When I decide I want something forever and it’s not just a project it will eventually get a full recap even down to the little ones. Everything else will basically last unless their is a design flaw like the possible underrated horizontal output transistor in the video. Besides caps and poor design you can run them until the picture tube has seen the end of its days, older picture tubes were usually of much higher quality than those being produced right before the flat screen era.
I have a white line going straight across horizontal line from top to bottom, does get power but nothing else shows after adjusting all knobs on back of crt arcade monitor. What you think it could be?
@@gamingo_gguyverx6812 if you know nothing about the subject refrain from commenting because you may end up wasting peoples time and money...a white line across the screen means failure in the vertical circuit...bad yoke, bad vertical output transistor or IC, or a bad capacitor or open resistor in the vertical circuit...flyback is DEFINETELY not the cause otherwise you would see nothing...dont run the monitor like that for any time or the line will get burned permanently on the phosphour
Do you live anywhere near Chattanooga? LOL. I have a CRT in a Commodore PET 8032 that is not working. It's very hard to find qualified CRT technicians these days. At least around here.
I have an arcade that the picture and sound work great, now the sound works but no picture, but now there is a loud hissing or air/gas exiting noise, anyway thing I should do to troubleshoot or repair.
Could I ship you a 1994 era 20" sony CRT to see if you can do anything with the focus and convergence? I could even send you some photos of it showing a test pattern. Is that something I could pay you for? I also have a 13" sony CRT built in 2001 I would be interested in being RGB modded. If not is there anyone in the USA you could recommend? Thanks!
I have had 2 CRTs where the Flyback has failed with a bang but I found a company called HR diemen who still make them and I've managed to get new transformers
When I turn my arcade machine on , I hear the game come on , it's working but my monitor shows up a fully purple screen, can't see anything ... Can someone please help me ....
sir in my tv pictucre come and in few second it gone and its gone again why this happening can u tell me plz or can u give me yours email id so i can send you the video of my tv problem
dude wtf are you doing with your hand on chassis at the back and bending looking at the tube face. Get a Mirror! face the tube to the mirror and then you can work on the chassis at the back and see the reflection in the mirror at the same time !!!
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else trying to find out electronic repairs dublin try Saankramer Electronic Magazine System ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin got cool results with it.

Excellent repair with nice information!
I have a white line down the middle of my saxon CRT. Not sure what's causing that.
Thanks for the video, that was cool seeing it work again!
Great troubleshooting! I'm trying to learn this stuff. Too bad this channel seem not to be active for the moment.
Hope you'll come back with more!
🔥❤🔥
Very educational and good explanations. Thanks for posting!
The golden rule is that after each repair of a monitor, especially when it is older than 5 years, the electrolytic capacitors in the mains must be changed.
Examining the circuit board for darker areas than others would have saved you a lot of time spent on this repair
Good video, I had this same issue on a k7000 chassis, HOT went out and took the voltage regulator with it, bad caps in the power supply caused it.
Great video. I have a dead Sanyo EZ-20 monitor that worked before I moved the arcade cabinet. Pretty sure I broke it--not sure I can fix it, but going to give it a try.
Hey be very careful with the ez-20 you can get the power and audio plugs swapped and it will blow up both the monitor and the audio board
Nice video. Don't give up. You have over 4,000 subscribers. Your public awaits.
Nice video! Make more crt repair videos, if it's possible. Thanks!
Very informative, thanks
Looks like you have a Kortek model KT-2001N (a.k.a. KTN-2001) monitor.

good video,in the last part at time 20:21 which control u very adjusting it so that picture cover full monitor
Thumbs up if you love working with crt purity rings 😃
nice video thanks, do you have an isolation transformer for your bench? take care and happy new year j
what kind of component tester are you connecting to your oscilloscope?
nice video, i have problem with wells gardne 19 , while playing is dead, no signal no turn on.

Love the pacman upright in the background.

Where are some good places you would recommend purchasing PCB's from
What a great video! Thank you!

Sure. Send me a picture! I also need to know what the model of the monitor is, so pics of the inside would be really helpful
I have the same issue as this.
I bought a mk3 machine and the monitor turns on and you can see it but the picture is slanted and also is slightly faded any chance you know what's wrong is there and way of fixing it?
I have a multicade, there is sound but no pic,the tube / neck is on I see the orange light.

How can I make a super gun to test like that awesome?
"ground is the chasis , which is pretty {common}" I see what you did there :D
My monitor is green it's not the color catridges on the neck or chassis wht could be ? And is it easy fix?
How can someone learn to do this. Starting from the scratch what should he do?
I came across this video one year later. Still puzzled about it and wanting to learn myself. Any clue?
I have had 2 CRTs where the Flyback has failed with a bang but I found a company called HR diemen who still make them and I've managed to get new transformers
cool video cant wait to c more
It looks like your capacitor it turning into a resistor
why would my monitor show double pictures side by side?
its a wells garner 7500
thanks
This is usually a board problem, not a monitor problem. What do you have connected to it?
why does my Hantarex Polo flicker bright and dark when I bang it!
proly bad solder joints
When I turn my arcade machine on , I hear the game come on , it's working but my monitor shows up a fully purple screen, can't see anything ... Can someone please help me ....
Your best bet is just to pay the 200-400 for a repair.
Bro I watched this after poking around in the one in my basement. Idk how I dont get hurt doing this shit.
Sweet petite I ♡ girl's feet... excellent video brother. 5☆
My monitor is making a taser sound noise
I have a CRT TV, and there should be a glowing heater coil, a flash when turned on/off and
a static feeling on the front glass.
Green greeen when playing I mean I see picture
Write down you didn't see a picture? That's just plain silly.
Not at all. You obviously dont own multiple arcade machines. Generally monitors stop working with some sort of a picture....
good next time when troubleshooting how about doing it step by step. testing at the components level.DONTcut the video where we cant see.
AMAZING, i have no patience I guess.............................. anyone know anyone that will work on games in the chicago market.
arcadeup.com is in Green Bay - Monitors only - you can ship him just the board.
Anybody from Florida that fix the regular monitors without changing them over to computer monitors
You need an ESR meter. Save a lot of time.
Heh, simple fix, throw it away and buy an xbox or ps. ;) But nice to see people still keeping old tech alive.
Why would I stare at an xbox?
sir in my tv pictucre come and in few second it gone and its gone again why this happening can u tell me plz or can u give me yours email id so i can send you the video of my tv problem
