Pim a 15 year old trumpet player and we play this for concert band at our high school and I didn't know what columbine was and I looked it up and it really hit my heart and it almost made me cry because I was so disturbed by the fact that people did this to others. This piece is truly amazing!
My daughter's high school band played this at their Spring 2018 concert in honor of the victims of the shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School. Emotional experience 😢
Our band played this my junior year of high school (2005), I'm not going to lie, i knew a small portion of what happened, but not much cause i never really paid attention and was still very young. When my director gave this to us, he told us about it being written for the columbine victims and families. we listed to it all the way through, and I just sat.... my whole body was covered in goosebumps. That day I went home and researched the columbine shootings, watched video on youtube, from the schools cameras as these kids took the lives of the people around them. After that...... I had a really hard time holding my composure long enough to play this piece. If you haven't had a chance to read the book "she said yes" I encourage you to do so. It was written by the mother of Cassie Bernall, that literally detailed the fear and the events that took place, and how cassie tried to calm others, and protect them. Her life was taken over answering a question with no hesitation, and no regret. "DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?"...... at the end of her answer, a gun was placed firmly against her forehead.....
Played this for competition a few months ago. One of my favorite songs I have ever played in band. The french horn parts and the trumpet solo are always going through my head
One of the biggest regrets of my life is that I was playing bassoon and I forgot to play the solo at the beginning in an All-District performance. We didn't practice enough and I just had no clue. What a loser!!!
I remember playing this amazing piece in my high school band and we didn't have an oboe, but but we had an amazing violist. The solo at 4:57 sounded absolutely beautiful when she played it. To this day, i still think the solo sounds much better played by a viola...
The story behind it is beautiful. 6:13 makes me cry. ;( we played this last week for our band concert. ;( so tearful. I had taken this piece as another "piece." But when I realized the story I played my heart.. ;( (I am a trombone player.) I love my part. Haha ;)
evan cawthon it probably sounded flat since it was off stage (or could’ve just been flat) and the conductor had to go at the pace of the soloist since the soloist likely couldn’t see the conductor
(Whoops 4 year late reply) I’m playing this piece currently and I’m the only oboe and I come in at the right times but man.. I cannot get vibrato right so it sounds kinda screeching and just stands out whenever I play ;-(
Since this was composed by Frank Ticheli in honor of students killed and injured at Columbine High School and there were no strings in the band at Columbine this was the way it was written and should be performed
The way the horns blend is spectacular.

The trumpet solo off stage is gorgeous

*I was in 1st band for All-region today and we played this!!It was amazing!!!*

my college band is playing this tune and it makes me cry whenever we play this song
This ensemble made the abrupt key change so beautiful and blended.
so happy to play basson in this music,it's so beautiful
incredible. brings me to tears every time I listen to it.
I love the 3rd clarinet part for this, and I get to play it a second time in my highschool career. I am a very happy camper! I love this piece!
That trumpet solo was beautiful
Such a moving piece
Absolutely stunning. Gave me chills.
Happy to be playing French horn in this piece! :D
Jealous! I play third trombone for it lol. Low notes for days.
Kaylee Swart geez that f haha
we are columbine
French Horn is my favorite part for this song, but instead I got put in both French Horn and Bari Sax,
how can you not like this 😭

Playing this in our band its really beautiful (vibraphone)
Happy to be playing euphonium in this piece :)

A Time to Remember
A Time to Hope
Happy to be playing 2nd flute for this ^-^
1st Trumpet part I played was the best part I have ever played. Sadly did not get the solo.
7:24 , e are Columbine...fantastic speech given by our conductor about the alma mater section there.

Wow!
fantastic!
the trumpet soloist was so flat omgggggg, and the solo was off of the ensemble
evan cawthon it probably sounded flat since it was off stage (or could’ve just been flat) and the conductor had to go at the pace of the soloist since the soloist likely couldn’t see the conductor
The solo is supposed to be offstage to symbolize a heavenly being comforting the survivors so......
The ensemble was supposed to play with the soloist, not the other way around. The soloist can't hear or see the conductor
Im an oboe player... i love this piece. However, i cannot come into my solos at the right moment... im only 13 so this piece is abit confusing
Don't feel too bad. It took our first oboe player three weeks to consistently come in at the right time.
(Whoops 4 year late reply) I’m playing this piece currently and I’m the only oboe and I come in at the right times but man.. I cannot get vibrato right so it sounds kinda screeching and just stands out whenever I play ;-(
Not so happy to be playing first trumpet (solo) in 8th grade, but hey, you win some you loose some. I'll try my best
Not the best arrangement of this piece...definitely prefer others.
+TJ There are no other "arrangements" of this piece. You prefer the "performance" of the piece done by others, you mean.
There is an orchestra arrangement, but there are are no strings in this band, so yeah....
Since this was composed by Frank Ticheli in honor of students killed and injured at Columbine High School and there were no strings in the band at Columbine this was the way it was written and should be performed
