Entire civilizations of humans being alive outside of the walls in Attack on Titan also deserves a mention tbh, it's a plot twist that almost nobody expected and it literally changed the whole story

Attack on Titan should have its own list of plot twists, from the titans' origins, the identities of the shifters, the smiling titan, the walls, etc etc there's so many big reveal moments

The fact that titans are in the walls was such a shocking plot twist and a cliffhanger ending to the first season. It made me go straight to reading the manga of attack on titan after that episode came out. It’s rare for an anime to intrigue me so much to go read the manga which says a lot about how good of a plot twist it truly was.
I wish Titans had remained mysterious "mysticall" beings. I'm disappointed by the whole storyline explaining the "why" and "how" of their existence honestly.
Just Retrospective writing. He was originally supposed to be a villian. Later kishimoto thought of adding tragic backstory to make him hero. For all the evils just a sad flashback is enough.

Good list, but the masked man in Naruto Shippuden being Obito is a great plot twist imo. Obito was the one behind the original 9 tails attack that lead to so much more afterwards. Thinking that the villain can be the nice guy was truly terrifying and it was interesting character development. He had a huge impact on the story. Glad he got his redemption though.
People called 'Tobi' being Obito long before the reveal though. It was honestly one of the most underwhelming revels considering Obito was only referenced once or twice before.
It was an okay plot twist. There's a difference between foreshadowing and making something blindingly obvious though. It was believable that he could have been Madara but as soon as Edo Madara appeared during the war, I think there was literally nobody else it could have been. If anything, the real Madara appearing was a bigger plot twist because if you didn't doubt Tobi was Madara, now you knew he wasn't. But to me, the truth about Itachi is easily the biggest plot twist in Naruto
An honorable mention I would give is learning that Ace was the son of Roger in One Piece. That caught me off guard learning that. I would also throw in Sanji being from a royal family to also be a crazy one. Who would’ve thought that a throwaway line from Sanji back in Jaya near the beginning of the series would create a whole second backstory for him? Also, learning that Shigaraki is Nana Shimura’s grandson in MHA was another great plot twist.
I'm disappointed that Ace being the son of Roger or Sanji being from a royal family from One Piece wasn't on the list, even the twist from my hero academia.

Z-One may have been the Craziest Plot Twist but Yusei being born in New Domino City & Jack Atlas born in the Satellite was more of a Crazy Plot Twist than the Z-One identity
Eren Yaeger did really fall from grace like Dany Targaryen. From a guy who wants to defend the walls from the Titans, to a genocidal maniac. He really did fall to Mad King Aerys and Dany route.

The identity of the Armored and Colossal Titans (Attack On Titans)? The Monster Rats are actually humans (From The New World)? Lelouch's real Zero Requiem plan (Code Geass)?
All great choices but being a huge YuYu Hakusho fan, you already knew Yusuke was on a whole other level from the start. With his strength and spirit gun he was already a force to reckon with but finding he was a Mazoku was a surprise but welcome being it helped him defeat Sensui which was a tough but great battle.

One of my favorite anime plot twists came in one of the first series I ever watched: Escaflowne. The crazy general of the enemy army turns out to be the missing sister of one of the protagonists. A princess brainwashed to believe she was a boy. It blew my mind.
just a couple of days ago, i finished Attack on Titan, and holy f*cking sh*t. ITS GOD DAMN FANTASTIC. the story is compelling and interesting, the world building is absolutely phenomenal, Erwin commands my heart, Levi is nothing but a pure badass, the animation is absolutely incredible, every character is lovable, all the villains are excellent, THE MUSIC SLAPS, the fights are incredible, oh man, it’s just so good 🥺

It's a nod to a decade ago, where videos were referring Juha Bach (past) and Yhwach (present) and how it didn't ruin anything for me cause I DIDN'T value detectiving or condescending the characters more than ''presently'' enjoying the anime)

Samurai Flamenco's twist leads to further twists, the entire series is a satire, homage, and deconstruction all in one of every tokusatsu trope in the book. Sounds like your team stopped watching at Chopping Chimp, but Beheading Baboon wasn't even the tip of the iceberg. Every episode after that goes full bonkers in directions you never see coming. Years before Anno reimagined tokusatsu with Shin Kamen Rider, Samura Flamenco absolutely liquified the genre.
How convoluted AoT got was actually what drove me away. The story was so incredibly strong when it was about humanity struggling against an oppressive, natural force that they almost certainly couldn't overcome. Then Hajime decided to throw in all these massive, overly complicated plot points. Even the reveal of the greater world beyond the island and turning Erin into the true villain is fine, but the time travel stuff, intermingled family lines, etc. It took away from the strength of the core of what the show was built on. It feels like the series strengths were undermined by convoluted plot points.
Bro #6 I remember when I got to that in the anime. I was dang near screaming like old dude 🤣🤣🤣 One of the CRAZIEST plot twists I've ever seen in ANY anime
I'm surprised Kanata no Astra isn't here. Like all this time we're not following a bunch of earthlings straying away from an unnamed icy planet back to earth but a bunch of non-earthlings AND clones straying away from earth back to their home planet.
My craziest anime/manga plot twist is the whole Vermouth arch in Detective Conan: We were led to think Vermouth is Jodie but Jodie was an FBI hunting for Vermouth and Vermouth was Araide in disguised and Vermouth was actually the assumed late actress Sharon Vinegard who faked her death and had a fake daughter called Chris Vineyard who was another alter ego of Vermouth after all and Vermouth was actually the disguised criminal saved by Shinichi and Ran in New York which explained why Vermouth always tried to save their lives despite being each other's enemies. Like the most brilliant twist ever
I'm not sure how big a deal it was back when it first aired, but finding out that Goku was an alien and that Raditz was his brother seemed like a crazy twist

How can you miss the point of Samurai Flamenco so hard? It betrayed its own premise? The premise WAS unexpected escalation. After that scene it just kept escalating further and further till it became a parody of the missing power ceiling a lot of shows have. Its not like it was a one of scene and after that the show kind changed once. It was constantly topping itself afterwards.
All Might's Evil Longtime Archenemy, All for One, told All Might about Tomura Shigaraki being Nana Shimura's grandson, is one of the Greatest Plot Twist in *My Hero Academia!*
Poor Lelouch. It’s bad enough to have one parent turn out to be a genocidal tyrant, but to have BOTH parents turn out to be genocidal scumbags? That’s so over the top that it becomes more of a farce than a tragedy.
Bleach has a couple of more fantastic twists Like the sweet motherlike healer Unohana actually being an incredible powerful ans ruthless reformed criminal. And Ichigo being a Quincy.
"Homura ruins everything" More like fixed everything because Madoka's wish never changed time or events so if you died to a witch, like some of our main girls, Madoka didn't save you and you get offed by the Wraiths, she only saved those at the moment they turned into Witches. Homura even figures this out in the Movie with the girls having different memories depending on which time line they came from. In the end, thanks to Homura, everyone is alive and has a chance, the only down side being being a sort of Devil to Madoka's God
I remember figuring out that Yuna was from another timeline when reading the manga, was the first conclusion i got when she was able to open the bank safe
How was Plunderers plot twist not on this list, set in a fantasy world where people whose personal number drops below 0 get dragged below, you hear about a sky demon destroying a village. We get to eventually see the sky demon come out from the ground, and its a flipping Attack Helicopter
The naruto one doesn't really feel like a plot twist, but more like a loophole for lazy writing (they didn't even do reincarnation idea right). The better plot twist was that Itachi was a hero all along and that he actually loved his younger brother despite of what he did to him.
That plot-twist involving Homura at the end of Rebellion could've been good expect for one thing that being Madoka had already ended Kuybei's machinations meaning the whole magical girls, and witches situation was finally dealt with when Madoka willingly agreed to become a goddess and reset everything to create a world where no one has to become a magical girl where witches don't exist where everyone Madoka cared about including Homura didn't have to suffer physically or mentally even though it meant she could no longer be with them physically and this was a choice she made willingly. But no the plot-twist involving Homura was ruined by the writing having it reveal that due to her yandere obsession with Madoka travels back in time to the moment Madoka willingly chose to become a goddess and end Kuybei's machinations aka the happy ending we all wanted, steal Madoka's goddess powers, become a tyrannical, pathetic, bratty, whiny, demon goddess who ruined the world by turning it into a living hellhole ruining the lives of everyone simply because she didn't want to lose her Madoka-Senpai and even going as far as to lock Madoka in a tower just to insure she stays with her forever, and to pour more salt onto the proverbial wound when Madoka tearfully asks Homura why she did all of this despite the fact that she was going to give everyone including Homura a happy ending, and Homura's response with a sinister smile was simply "For you my dear Madoka-senpai". Yeah every fan including me pretty much decided then and there to declare Homura the most hated character in the Madoka Magica franchise.
Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt is the biggest troll in all of anime. It was one hell of a wild ride, had an awesome soundtrack, had you root for actual prostitutes, and had some crazy visuals like that final attack that wasn't fully shown (chickens). If they ever do make a season 2, it's far too late. Gargantia was a crazy twist. The one that Ledo crushed wasn't even hostile, which led to the kill being that much more painful. Eren's time travel manipulation was total BS, and was one of the many things that ruined Attack on Titan overall. I can't imagine reading that plot and thinking it was a good twist. Crazy, yes. Good? Hell no.
I have high hopes that Walpurgisnatch rising movie will come out later this year or next year to give the rebellion the deserving and masterful follow up🎉
It's been like almost a decade since Rebellion came out. Hopefully this year, we might get more news about the upcoming sequel. We wanna know how Walpurgisnatch Rising takes place after Rebellion. Let's not loose hope.

Samurai Flamenco's twist leads to further twists, the entire series is a satire, homage, and deconstruction all in one of every tokusatsu trope in the book. Sounds like your team stopped watching at Chopping Chimp, but Beheading Baboon wasn't even the tip of the iceberg. Every episode after that goes full bonkers in directions you never see coming. Years before Anno reimagined tokusatsu with Shin Kamen Rider, Samura Flamenco absolutely liquified the genre.

One of my personal favorite plot twists is the Dabi reveal from MHA
How convoluted AoT got was actually what drove me away. The story was so incredibly strong when it was about humanity struggling against an oppressive, natural force that they almost certainly couldn't overcome. Then Hajime decided to throw in all these massive, overly complicated plot points. Even the reveal of the greater world beyond the island and turning Erin into the true villain is fine, but the time travel stuff, intermingled family lines, etc. It took away from the strength of the core of what the show was built on. It feels like the series strengths were undermined by convoluted plot points.
That was all pretty clearly planned out from early on
Bro #6 I remember when I got to that in the anime. I was dang near screaming like old dude 🤣🤣🤣 One of the CRAZIEST plot twists I've ever seen in ANY anime

My craziest anime/manga plot twist is the whole Vermouth arch in Detective Conan: We were led to think Vermouth is Jodie but Jodie was an FBI hunting for Vermouth and Vermouth was Araide in disguised and Vermouth was actually the assumed late actress Sharon Vinegard who faked her death and had a fake daughter called Chris Vineyard who was another alter ego of Vermouth after all and Vermouth was actually the disguised criminal saved by Shinichi and Ran in New York which explained why Vermouth always tried to save their lives despite being each other's enemies. Like the most brilliant twist ever
Samurai Flamenco was great when it was grounded in our world. Was so upset when this twist ruined all that.
It was satisfying watching Light Yagami finally get outplayed after it's revealed he's really Kira.

How in the world is Aizens reveal in merely 14th. NOBODY saw that coming.
How can you miss the point of Samurai Flamenco so hard? It betrayed its own premise? The premise WAS unexpected escalation. After that scene it just kept escalating further and further till it became a parody of the missing power ceiling a lot of shows have. Its not like it was a one of scene and after that the show kind changed once. It was constantly topping itself afterwards.

"Homura ruins everything"
More like fixed everything because Madoka's wish never changed time or events so if you died to a witch, like some of our main girls, Madoka didn't save you and you get offed by the Wraiths, she only saved those at the moment they turned into Witches. Homura even figures this out in the Movie with the girls having different memories depending on which time line they came from.
In the end, thanks to Homura, everyone is alive and has a chance, the only down side being being a sort of Devil to Madoka's God
Don't forget that the sequel to Rebellion is coming soon. Hope it's this year.

It's not all battles and weirdness, there's an anime for everyone.
The naruto one doesn't really feel like a plot twist, but more like a loophole for lazy writing (they didn't even do reincarnation idea right). The better plot twist was that Itachi was a hero all along and that he actually loved his younger brother despite of what he did to him.
Why do u think it's lazy writing and how did they didn't got it right?
It wasn't really reincarnation so much as an extremely mild possession that basically caused constant conflict between the two involved.

For me, The plot twist was that Cath was actually Cath Palug in The Seven Deadly Sins.
Finding out bakura was zorc was crazy
That plot-twist involving Homura at the end of Rebellion could've been good expect for one thing that being Madoka had already ended Kuybei's machinations meaning the whole magical girls, and witches situation was finally dealt with when Madoka willingly agreed to become a goddess and reset everything to create a world where no one has to become a magical girl where witches don't exist where everyone Madoka cared about including Homura didn't have to suffer physically or mentally even though it meant she could no longer be with them physically and this was a choice she made willingly.
But no the plot-twist involving Homura was ruined by the writing having it reveal that due to her yandere obsession with Madoka travels back in time to the moment Madoka willingly chose to become a goddess and end Kuybei's machinations aka the happy ending we all wanted, steal Madoka's goddess powers, become a tyrannical, pathetic, bratty, whiny, demon goddess who ruined the world by turning it into a living hellhole ruining the lives of everyone simply because she didn't want to lose her Madoka-Senpai and even going as far as to lock Madoka in a tower just to insure she stays with her forever, and to pour more salt onto the proverbial wound when Madoka tearfully asks Homura why she did all of this despite the fact that she was going to give everyone including Homura a happy ending, and Homura's response with a sinister smile was simply "For you my dear Madoka-senpai".
Yeah every fan including me pretty much decided then and there to declare Homura the most hated character in the Madoka Magica franchise.

Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt is the biggest troll in all of anime. It was one hell of a wild ride, had an awesome soundtrack, had you root for actual prostitutes, and had some crazy visuals like that final attack that wasn't fully shown (chickens). If they ever do make a season 2, it's far too late.
Gargantia was a crazy twist. The one that Ledo crushed wasn't even hostile, which led to the kill being that much more painful.
Eren's time travel manipulation was total BS, and was one of the many things that ruined Attack on Titan overall. I can't imagine reading that plot and thinking it was a good twist. Crazy, yes. Good? Hell no.
Madoka Magica changed magical girls forever and has had many imitators since. But DITF twist doesn't make any sense
