No, you missed the point. Lara was at peace with everything that had happened and was going to take her role as head of the Croft family more seriously - she didn't need to b filling in her parents shoes as an adventurer all the time. Furthermore, this wasn't meant to be a "prequel" to the original series, but it's own take on Lara Croft. It still makes sense. Both endings allude to what might be coming in the next game, and they almost allude to the same thing, if you were paying attention.

I love this ending. The other one was good and I had no issue with it, but the Easter egg to Natla was such a good idea for old fans of the series. Maybe they didn’t want to carry the weight of the mythology that existed in the original trilogy? Idk. I think they should have included that letter.

For everyone saying this ending is better, if you pay attention to context clues, you would notice in Lara's drawing it contains a pyramid and a t-rex which are both nods to the original. Maybe they patches this ending because they wanted to go for a more subtle ending?
Exactly what I was thinking. The Natla letter would give people the impression they're going to do a specific game next... the dinosaur picture is much more vague/subtle - and all fans will 'get' it, even if they didn't play the old games. The last thing they want is to get people hyped for something that isn't going to exist, and face an army of pitforks next time they announce something.
Exactly! It's good that someone noticed that! This ending is way too much on-your-face with its references - furthermore, this wasn't meant to be a "prequel" to the original series, but it's own take on Lara Croft, so the a letter from Natla asking for a job doesn't really fit. I think Anniversary may be the worst selling TR game since AOD. I really liked it over Underworld and the empty husk of a game called Legend, but I think it only sold 1.6 million copies. It may be the best because they were remaking a game that was great (for the time because on the tank controls, but still great to me) and had the levels layed out that you could just build upon. Doing a remake really helped with Underworld feeling more like a TR game than Legend.
@N-word Jim You kidding right? AoD had the Best story in the franchise, but the game is flawed so the people can't put their attetion to that game just like you.
If they want to link the prequels to the original Tomb Raider games then it was a good idea to delete Natla's letter. In both TR1 and Anniversary - Lara is introduced to Natla by Larson when she's staying at a hotel in Calcutta. Yay for Winston making an appearance tho
Man, I wish the developers would give us a NORMAL explanation why the cut this (true ending in my opinion) out. There is so much hope in this ending, so many easter egss. All sorts of games have or had patched endings. Mass Effect 3 obviosly comes to mind but Witcher 2 sticks out more as the whole 3rd act got a major revamp a year later.
Pretty sure it was patched to not create impression there will be a new TR game from Squeenix/Eidos Montreal any time soon, as they are quite busy with Avengers game, which is apparently so demanding, they had to open a new studio to help with it.
I agree I dont know why their so terrified of showing signs of the old Lara. Like even her classic costume were not even reimagined to give a tease of what she might look like in future. Instead they gave us costumes of pixelated retro classics that nobody will even use. I'm guessing this ending was patched out because knowing the game flopped, they didnt was to stick to this ending leaving fans teased for a future game with the old Lara we know that will never happen due to poor sales. Even as a fan and supporter of the series, regardless of the titles being good or not, it's safe to admit now that the reboot titles were just never successful. First game, although not a flop failed to make what they expected. For the 2nd game, sales of the first werent enough to satisfy funding for a bigger better sequel and instead took Microsoft's offer in support to fund for the sequel. However initial xbox exclusitivity ended up hurting the games sales. As for this game, it was no match against its upcoming competition (Spider Man, Red Dead Redemption 2). Its sad that even as a multiplatform title, it still couldn't match up to the sales of Spiderman, which was a PS4 exclusive. The reboot just made Lara less and less interesting. Despite my support for the series, my hope to see the real tomb raider return has run thin after seeing this ending was scrapped. Developers could've given me that hope had they not scrapped this ending.
I prefer this one by far. I'm sick and tired of cheap family melodrama, so having them focus on a painting of Richard and then conclude the scene with Lara's drawing of her family ruined the other one for me.
The ending after the patch shows a final picture of lara, his father, her mom, and a dinosaur and also a brown pyramid. Maybe the next game will be set at egypt? Who knows!?
Lmao have u even played the game? It's the painting that young lara drew and then lara added her father cause she understands him now more than ever and she accepted her faith

@Lafecaan IKR. Such a great video game...I'd say the best modern Tomb Raider game in terms of everything. Legend beats it with its music and Underworld with its gameplay, but the best overall. Tomb Raider 2013 a close second, but it lacks underwater sections. Rise and Shadow are fun at first, then you reach the huge RPG areas, with side missions, and tedious collectibles. Not to mention the useless skill trees. At that point it doesn't feel like Tomb Raider anymore. You just want to stop playing, how I felt. A shame really, the intro of Rise was superb! IMO, anything larger than the first Russian camp where Lara fights the bear shouldn't exist in Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider 2013 did it so good in this regard, blocked paths, unlocking complete new sections and if revisiting, always having something new. And no side missions, those are useless. Just give me tombs
very weird that they would change that, i do like the current ending as it shows the painting of egypt. the previous 2 games gave hints on the nxt location the game would be set, and i like shadow does the same with kid laras drawing. Still they could of left the letter scene in as well. I guess they have no idea wtf there doing with the story other than the location its going to be set. It doesnt help either that Square gave the game to another dev for the last game in the trilogy, thats always going to create issues. Sort it out Square , you paid a lot of money for such a loved franchise dont blow it
"you paid a lot of money for such a loved franchise dont blow it" but not enough, square enix ceo already said Tr franchise not sell well and deus ex too.
thats not true, the first game they exspected to seel way more than they planned, but they later said expectations were way to high, and the game sold well. Deus ex also sold well , MD didnt sell as well as HR but that game as the CEO said, " isnt going anywhere". My point is that square are invested in these games yet dont seem to go all in with them which is odd. You either go all in or you dont. Dont go half in and then be surprised that it didnt do as well as u thought.. thats whats odd with Square tbh.
They dropped Hitman franchise too, but hitman is great game, I think the main problem here is square enix its only care about FF,and life is shit franchise.. I HATE square Enix at least now, HITMAN will be that game what the developers wants, and Square Enix not gonna tell what to do, and no more stupid episodic shits.
They had to remove this ending or they couldn't use the excuse of "She really becomes the Lara we all remember in this game" for another 6 goddamn games. Otherwise they'd have to blend the new Lara with the best features of the old, a confident personality, her iconic guns and reimagined stages from the original games; the kind of game that would please new and old fans. But FUCK THAT, we can milk this "becoming herself" story until she's 65 ingame and cry wolf every game release.
I want to play Next Tomb Raider! Square Enix patched this mean maybe they will not make other Tomb Raider Game. I don't want that!! I hope they make next Tomb Raider Game.
I think in the next game she is on holiday in CALCUTA INDIA 😆 and she gets a postcard from someone unknown. She goes to the address and it’s Natla who sends a random guy with her to Peru. She and that guy starts off with single pistols but after when he dead Lara steals his pistol to get dual.
It's an Easter egg. The postcode is for Hatfield House the location that we used for Croft Manor in the filming of the two Lara Croft: Tomb Raider films. Wilton House was used for Croft Manor in the latest movie.
The people hoping for classic Lara to return are going to end up being disappointing. The old games are great, but that character, as it was in the original games really doesn't fit in with the more modern depiction of a female protagonist (Yes, I'm aware this version of Lara is essentially a murderous sociopath). I have no doubt we will eventually see some of those original story lines crop up in one form or another, but surely it'd be better for the franchise to give fans more original stories from that universe, versus treading over stories we've already played multiple times?
I cant See the difference between this ending and the "normal" ending exept the Video itself. Like why Do people say that this ending is much better than the original. Can somebody explain?
late reply but this ending was too much referencing about the first TR game (not the first reboot) thats why people love this more cause they said square enix is teasing them with remake they will do on TR 1
People saying this ending is better just because it was replaced hahahaha the final cut has much more feel and has a bright ilumination, wich brings hope to the franchise. Tomb raider is about family, so dont come here telling your sick of the melodrama.
Rodrigo Paranhos No we think it’s better due to the references to classic Lara and allusions to what’s to come. Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal have stated that all the inconsistencies before this new trilogy were due to this trilogy being a prequel and origin story. Eidos Montreal had stated this game concludes her origin story and that she will finally *_become the Tomb Raider_* (This is also the slogan of this game). Yet by the end of _Shadow of the Tomb Raider_ Lara has still not picked up any of her iconic characteristics and we haven’t met any of her important known main characters. Imagine if the Batman movies were rebooted. WB tells us we get a new origin story. For the first movie Bruce never wears a bat symbol or cape and never fights any supervillains although he does don a bat shaped mask and cowl but only at the very end. Fans are disappointed, but it makes a lot of money so a sequel is made. In this sequel he never wears the mask at all. But the crew assures us that it’s still an origin story and that we will see his journey complete by the next installment when he will finally be Batman. So the next movie comes and he never puts on the costume, he never meets Commissioner Gordon or Lucius Fox, he never uses a batarang, he never drives the Batmobile, and the bat signal never appears. And it just ends there. Later footage leaks of Bruce finally appearing in his full Batman costume being summoned with the Bat-signal by Commissioner Gordon who hands him a Joker card, and we find out this is the original ending but it was cut due to studio executives meddling. Or if Nintendo reboots Mario. He has the hat but no mustache or suspenders, and never uses a hammer. He never meets Peach, DK, Yoshi, or Bowser and never enters the Mushroom Kingdom instead it’s set in NYC. For three games they promise us how we are going to see the plumber become the hero... but nothing. This is what happened. Fans have waited for six years for Lara to finally don her iconic outfit, use her signature weapons, and meet her best friends and arch-nemesis. This ending gave us a glimpse at her signature weapons and arch-nemesis.
DoctorWeeTodd No where did CrystalD or Eidos ever say this Lara was going to wear the outfit in the older games or have 2 guns. That whole shit was you guys assuming and putting words in their mouth. This is a reboot. It has absolutely nothing to do with the older games. This is a reconstruction of Lara and the series. What does it mean to be a Tomb Raider. Your idea of that is clearly different than CrystalD and Edios. There was an article about this before Shadow came out where they talked about what it means to become a Tomb Raider. You should give it a read as they answer that question.
I just don’t think that story needs to be retold. I love the original series however I feel they should focus on the new rebooted story line. I do enjoy this version of Lara the most!
Alfred Lopez it’s an origins story, so it would have been great to leave it off and piece the old ones to the new, regardless of which you prefer. It sets a nice timeline for the whole spectrum.. you’re definitely in a very large minority on this one it seems.
Is it just me or is game turning into a feministic thing? I mean... did you ever notice that Lara only kills men and no women in most cases? Think about it...
Mercenaries generally hire the best, and since men are stronger than women (and generally more at home fighting) mercenaries tend to be pretty much exclusively male. It's not really a feminism thing so much as a realistic thing.
@@lucasdrathen2050 well for authenticity we should ask EA. So glad they finally tell us uneducated gamer what really happened in WW 2. I'm sure they know the truth about mercaneries as well and can't wait to let us know.

Still they could of left the letter scene in as well. I guess they have no idea wtf there doing with the story other than the location its going to be set. It doesnt help either that Square gave the game to another dev for the last game in the trilogy, thats always going to create issues. Sort it out Square , you paid a lot of money for such a loved franchise dont blow it
"you paid a lot of money for such a loved franchise dont blow it"
but not enough, square enix ceo already said Tr franchise not sell well and deus ex too.
thats not true, the first game they exspected to seel way more than they planned, but they later said expectations were way to high, and the game sold well.
@@ronuss they only seem to truly care about Japanese games, ugh.
I prefer patched version its more like she is finally home and take break after all things she survived more like happy ending :)
Why no one is commenting on the butler :( I missed him so fucking much, they even made him old enough like the earlier games.
Wtf why cut this? I was so hoping and fantasizing about this, to see it was almost included shocks me!
Why didn't they go with this ending? I like the one we got but this one is perfect
The manor is so prettier
Good that i´ve finished the game twice, before the patch.
I'm screaming
I want to play Next Tomb Raider! Square Enix patched this mean maybe they will not make other Tomb Raider Game. I don't want that!! I hope they make next Tomb Raider Game.
I hope so too, just not that they realize Camila's wish to get Lara a daughter
I think in the next game she is on holiday in CALCUTA INDIA 😆 and she gets a postcard from someone unknown. She goes to the address and it’s Natla who sends a random guy with her to Peru. She and that guy starts off with single pistols but after when he dead Lara steals his pistol to get dual.
Has anyone checked the post code of Lara's address on the envelope. It's nowhere near Guildford but it is Croft Manor
It's an Easter egg. The postcode is for Hatfield House the location that we used for Croft Manor in the filming of the two Lara Croft: Tomb Raider films. Wilton House was used for Croft Manor in the latest movie.
It would have been cool to see the Natla letter
They should do a time skip and do the dagger of xian (Tomb Raider 2)
Fuck, Winston got out of the freezer.
The people hoping for classic Lara to return are going to end up being disappointing. The old games are great, but that character, as it was in the original games really doesn't fit in with the more modern depiction of a female protagonist (Yes, I'm aware this version of Lara is essentially a murderous sociopath). I have no doubt we will eventually see some of those original story lines crop up in one form or another, but surely it'd be better for the franchise to give fans more original stories from that universe, versus treading over stories we've already played multiple times?
err have i missed something? i got this ending the other day after the credits?
PLEASE REMAKE TR II
I cant See the difference between this ending and the "normal" ending exept the Video itself. Like why Do people say that this ending is much better than the original. Can somebody explain?
Jacqueline Natla's letter, TR original antagonist
late reply but this ending was too much referencing about the first TR game (not the first reboot) thats why people love this more cause they said square enix is teasing them with remake they will do on TR 1
Anyway to get this ending?
You need physical copy without downloading patch
never played the game but why was the butler was shaking so much?
Probably because he knows how much of a murdering psychopath this version of Lara is, lmao.
Because he was always shaking in the original games
Poor Winston was again stuck in the freezer. And that's why is shacking .
PCgameplaz Vegan?
@@pond0479 the nostalgia
Who is this Natla person im hearing about
The evil girl from the first tomb raider game in 1996 she's who killed lara s dad
And she is the fonder of trenty
And also the most bitch in the game
She’s Lara’s archenemy.
@@mrcrashfuison9740
She's not the founder of Trinity. She's an Atlantean Goddess with her own agenda and is Lara's greatest adversary.
I thought Natla was hot
The only time having a shitty third world connection was good. This was the ending I saw. Hahaha
wtf!?!
Very happy they changed it!
Syber-VHS no u
Why though?
@@DGP406 that's an awful thing to say to anyone, you could have said “you have a terrible opinion and no one likes it“.
They need to ditch whiny Lara in the next game.
A bag of chips. And then another. Always the same, spicey flavour. At some point, their sense of taste will be so dull that they won't be able to distinguish between Paprika and Barbecue anymore. Such is the fate of the chips eater. Truly a tragedy.
@@lucasdrathen2050
Only in general. There are women mercenaries and anyone will fight to protect themselves. If it were more realistic, there would be a few females in there.
@@kirbyhatesincels917 True, but not enough to justify the effort, imho. It'd add nothing to the experience and potentially open them up to the 'glorifying violence against women' crowd (who already have it in for Tomb Raider).
you can see on the map by the letter she has peru circled
