I'm having the same problem with my s9+. My screen is green and I can barely see anything to use it. When I turn it off, the screen stays completely black. I can hear and feel it vibrate and the Blue light will come on at the top but the start up menu doesn't show, when it reboots I can't see the little Android, I can't see anything. Not even the screen to reset / reboot / clear the cache and after about a minute, the Green screen comes back on. I'm beyond frustrated! Maybe this should be brought to Samsung's attention. If anyone has any solution besides getting a new phone, please share.
Same. My telco contract is 4 mths left and my note 9 give me this problem and I couldnt stop thinking : why now. All was good, love the battery life, the big screen, the s pen and all the special features, but this problem is really a turn-off. So dissappointed now that I dont know what phone should I get next. And I am using my old note 4, the problem is the battery drain like running water.
If the issue is because of March security update,You can get the display of note9 fixed Free of cost from Samsung service centres. All service centres (India) have received the communication regarding the issue on July 1st. I got the display changed this week .Hope it helps.
same issue on s8. But it comes after water damage. Please do this settings 1. When display came like this go outside and get more light condition to the display 2. After your display wark like normal 3. Then swipe down your control panel and going to the display Brightness settings 4. And turn off the Adaptive Brightness option 5. And you can control display brightness, set it high ( you want use in outside )or set it lower( in inside)
Same here. Began on a 2 years old device. Can't tell if it's HW or SW problem. I would say it's more SW than HW : - phone in sleep - press power to wake --> green screen - press power to sleep - tap the bottom of he screen 2, 3 or 4 times - the phone wakes up - screen is normal So far, 100 % success doing this. Samsung, do something FREE, or lose clients by 1 000 000
@@ShermanChin So far, when the problem occurs, it's not always worse than the previous occurrence. Sometime, it's almost uniform, nearly the same green everywhere. And sometimes, you can read few parts of the screen; it's difficult, it's not usable for sure, but it's "less green". What's puzzling me the most is that by simply taping the screen bottom instead of pressing the power button, it goes back to normal at once.
I'm pretty sure it is a thermal problem. Turn it off and leave it off for a couple of hours. It will turn on normally. Also, I put it in my refrigerator for an hour while it was on, and it was functioning normally when I took it out. Perhaps a heat sink has come loose, or a part is going into thermal runaway.
Not for me because it still didn't work the next day. However, as you suggested, the OLED might have been damaged by the heat as I was playing a game at that time when it occured. And since this seems to affect the Exynos variant more as can be seen in the comments here, we can assume that the Mali cores produce more heat than their Snapdragon Adreno counterparts.

I just got same problem with my note 9, I had almost similar problem with my note 4 and note 5. Now I am so convinced my next phone is not definitely a Samsung phone, I am so sick of this quality
Never had a problem with Samsung before Note 9 but yeah, after Note 9 Exynos, I am only considering Samsung Snapdragon or another brand in the future. In the meantime, I am with a cheap Nokia: th-cam.com/video/nk9dIxmCojk/w-d-xo.html
I think it is a hardware issue caused by the march software update, probably because of the update that caused the software to do something to the screen and it permanently broke the screen, u can only fix it by contacting Samsung service center to get the screen change since it was hardware issue, but since the issue wasn't the users' fault, Samsung should take the responsibility to fix our screen without charging us since so many people having the same problem, just like what they did for the note 7 exploding problems, but I think samsung is ignoring the claims right now to avoid the cost of fixing all the problem's screen. I have a s9+ having the exact problem since March patch.
we cannot say that before we can prove it. use 2 cellphones of the same series, one LCD is normal, the other is green screen. change the lcd with a green screen to a normal machine, does it stay green or does the color become normal? from there we will know, the problem is in software or hardware after we update. if their technician don't know this method to test, maybe i'm the one who smarter than them to find cause of this issue .
mine happened just now, what I do is to change brightness to almost minimum level and the color are back and screen responsive again. Raise the brightness a bit more and it turns green again. UNCHECK adaptive brightness, I think that is the one causing the screen unresponsive since it turns green when brightness is raised. Last, how to access brightness when screen is unresponsive, use double click power button to access camera (YES CAMERA WORKS!!!) altough a bit green ofcourse, the access the slide menu above from camera and reduce brightness. hope this helps...
On 2nd note, this already explained here tho th-cam.com/video/m0-npdV-U2c/w-d-xo.html Some commenter suggest installing OLED Saver and my screen can be bright again without turning green. So this is clearly software issue with the latest update Samsung really done it now...
no, it is real green and unresponsive, except for turning off and restarting. really like broken screen, 1:34 is really similar. though your video is 2019, should not happened yet the faulty update so yea might be different. but for people facing this nowadays, likely because of samsung's faulty update hope this helps everyone especially on this lockdown
Thanks for the solution! I hope it helps some people. Please do keep us updated on whether it is a permanent fix. My green screen wasn't caused by the update and even a factory reset didn't fix it. The screen replacement did the trick and they didn't touch the software at all.
everyone here who is still curious, actually this problem is a hardware or software problem, I have a suggestion for friends who usually repair cellphones, use 2 cellphones of the same series, one LCD is normal, the other is green screen. change the lcd with a green screen to a normal machine, does it stay green or does the color become normal? from there we will know, the problem is in software or hardware after we update. please help for all friends here. Please pin this comment so that our friends who can help, see it.
Same green screen problem as my s9. I have thoughts it could be of water damage after accidentally drop it on a sink. I've tried putting it on a rice and lets see what the result is.
Yeah, I had to change the screen. It is a hardware problem but you can use it awhile longer if you turn on the Always On Display according to others here if you read the comments. Sorry to hear about your phone 😢
Turn your always on display on. Put it to where you tap the screen to see the clock. When you do, unlock the phone. Problem solved until the issue is fixed.
Yet another Exynos problem although the Snapdragon Note 9 has a screen discoloration issue reported in international news today too due to the recent update.
I dont know I have note 9 and have the same issue I did this, and it works temperally, When i lock the phone the green screen again appear. But if i do lock tap on the screen and after always on display on Quickly turn on the screen it works
not only note 9. most of 8,9,10 series got this issue after update latest os. and they named these series are flagship products and sell it in high price. what a shame with my note 9. in future, i give up with their phones.
Sorry to say this, but green screen issue is a hardware fault not something an update can fix. One of the updates from Samsung is causing the CPU to over heat and in return permanently damaging the oled screen. Not only that but also compromising the battery as well. The only fix is the replacement of both the oled screen and battery. This repair is entirely the fault of Samsung due to a faulty update that over works the CPU capacity. Therefore my advice is for you to return your device back to Samsung and lodge an assessment request. They charge a small fee for the assessment, but the entire repair should be compensated by Samsung. Be firm and keep the pressure via emailing them to insist on Samsung covering the repair costs. My Note 9 is almost 3 years old when green screen issue happened. They fixed the entire thing free of charge. But I kept firm and didn't let them bully me into charging me for the repairs, which was their fault in the first place. I must admit, my phone despite its age, is in perfect condition. Not a scratch on it. Which I know contributed winning my argument for the repairs. So if you have psychical damage, I doubt you will have a chance. Good luck to all who will give this successful method a go.
Similar problem here.. Screen on heating and rising to 41 degree turns my screen yellowish... really annoying. It is a hardware issue for sure.. For me hot phone give rise to this problem.. In warm places, the phone pisses me off. Should i walk with a AC to cool down the cell now? I liked samsung for note series. But Now I will have to stop loving it. Will be switching to other brands coz this problem breaks my heart. Shall we go on twitter and start twitting about the same?
Same problem with my Samsung note 9 ,after the JUNE 20 update the screen just turned green and unresponsive and the Samsung service at kochi just washing their hands off saying it's just a problem with the display ..
Started happening on mine today. Exymos Variant. Boguht Spetember 2018 Tried trouble shooting. Turned Always On Display on but only temporarily fixes it. Noticed that it's being back to normal whenever you put brightness to the lowest level. Bringing it to mid level brightness triggers this issue even with Always On Display activated. I have loved this phone so bad I hope it's a software issue only. updated 2 weeks ago to March 2020 patch and this has never happened to me before
This really sucks you know. But thanks a lot for the video. A bit of relief that it's not just me experiencing this tho (lol) Another widespread issue. My phone's camera module had been replaced 3 times in the Samsung Service Center when it was just 3 months old. That's 3 times. And now this..
@@canderson4638 sorry to hear that 😢 Hang in there. If you really want, you can change the screen but might be better to consider a replacement phone seeing that even the Motorola G Stylus is now at a cheaper price if you don't want to buy an older Snapdragon Note 10 phone.

my note 9 , i never drop, when i use it in the car, suddenly become like this, screen green, blurry wordings, use for exactly 2 years, is it worth repair, it cost about 220 usd for the screen replacement, any recomendations?
Is yours the Snapdragon or Exynos version of the Note 9? If it is Exynos, I would suggest buying a second hand version of the Snapdragon Note 9 because it is faster and you can probably get it for around 300 usd now.
The Malaysian version is the slower and less power efficient Samsung Exynos version. I also have not heard of any Qualcomm Snapdragon Note 9 version having this green screen problem in the comments so far. I would suggest you look at second hand or even new Snapdragon Note 9 models in the Shopee app. You would be surprised at how cheap they are now with the launch of the Galaxy Note 10 Lite.

If it is so then we are making a costly mistake by purchasing Samsung Note 9
Yes, unfortunately the Note 9 Exynos variant seems to have display issues after a year. I would only buy the Snapdragon variant if I buy Samsung again.
Same issue cropped up on my Exynos Note 9 last week, the device is 1yr and 5 months old and has no physical damage from a drop or any harsh useage. Samsung says it is out of warranty and I will need to cough up the entire screen replacement cost, currently trying to escalate my case to someone senior in the company to see if they can the screen fixed free of cost as it is certainly a poor quality screen / assembly process that has caused the failure.

Same here. Began on a 2 years old device. Can't tell if it's HW or SW problem.
I would say it's more SW than HW :
- phone in sleep
- press power to wake --> green screen
- press power to sleep
- tap the bottom of he screen 2, 3 or 4 times
- the phone wakes up
- screen is normal
So far, 100 % success doing this.
Samsung, do something FREE, or lose clients by 1 000 000
If you see the problem getting worse after awhile, it is a hardware problem indicating that the screen is dying.
I have a friend who has a similar symptom and it got more frequent after a couple of months till the point it is unusable 😅
@@ShermanChin So sad. Hey! @Samsung ! Move your ass !

But something else man, i do have the same issue, its software, issue.... its wide spread.
my 8 years old note 3 display still normal. no burn, no green screen/line, no flicker. hehehe....
Glad that Samsung fixed the issue for you for free! 😊
@@ShermanChin no they didn't
Oh! I am sorry to hear that. Yeah, they definitely should fix for free.
we cannot say that before we can prove it. use 2 cellphones of the same series, one LCD is normal, the other is green screen. change the lcd with a green screen to a normal machine, does it stay green or does the color become normal? from there we will know, the problem is in software or hardware after we update. if their technician don't know this method to test, maybe i'm the one who smarter than them to find cause of this issue .
mine happened just now, what I do is to change brightness to almost minimum level and the color are back and screen responsive again.
On 2nd note, this already explained here tho
th-cam.com/video/m0-npdV-U2c/w-d-xo.html
Some commenter suggest installing OLED Saver and my screen can be bright again without turning green.
So this is clearly software issue with the latest update
Samsung really done it now...
This is a different issue. Your screen shouldn't be as green as mine according to some other comments here if it is the software issue.
no, it is real green and unresponsive, except for turning off and restarting. really like broken screen, 1:34 is really similar.

everyone here who is still curious, actually this problem is a hardware or software problem, I have a suggestion for friends who usually repair cellphones, use 2 cellphones of the same series, one LCD is normal, the other is green screen. change the lcd with a green screen to a normal machine, does it stay green or does the color become normal? from there we will know, the problem is in software or hardware after we update. please help for all friends here. Countering this issue since 6 months back on note 8 exynos. When the problem occurs it's just 1 and a half year. Very disappointed

not only note 9. most of 8,9,10 series got this issue after update latest os. and they named these series are flagship products and sell it in high price. what a shame with my note 9. in future, i give up with their phones.
Factory reset never solve softwesr issue u must change whole firmware
Thanks for your explanation and possible strategy to approach Samsung!

Same problem with my Samsung note 9 ,after the JUNE 20 update the screen just turned green and unresponsive and the Samsung service at kochi just washing their hands off saying it's just a problem with the display ..
The green screen problem after the update is a slightly different problem but yes, that is more of a problem directly created by Samsung.

Tried trouble shooting. Turned Always On Display on but only temporarily fixes it.
Noticed that it's being back to normal whenever you put brightness to the lowest level. Bringing it to mid level brightness triggers this issue even with Always On Display activated. I have the exact same problem. Only had my phone 1 year and 2 months. Very disappointed
Exynos variant as well?
Same here. I too had the phone for about 1 year and 2 months and I tried everything but could fix it
I am sorry to hear. It is a hardware problem so the only way to permanently fix it is to change the screen. Yeah, disappointing of Samsung Exynos 😢
My Samsung Note 9 Green screen issue, after 3 day burn screen, than now Touch screen not working. Fuck!
Sorry to hear that. 😢 Yeah, once you get the green screen problem, you will need to change your screen already.
I have same problem from April 2020 Always on display can't help me what can I do now sir?
I guess the only way is to get the screen changed. The AOD is just a temporary solution anyway.
@@ShermanChin sir AOD it's not helping to me what can i do whats another solution plz reply
@@shivamlohar2912 unfortunately, there is no other way except to get your screen changed. It is a hardware problem.
@@ShermanChin okk thanks for helping me sir
Good luck!
Have the same issue too
Really annoying, never dropped the phone.
Exynos variant?
@@ShermanChin yea
I am sorry to hear that. Seems like a very common problem with the Exynos variant. 😢
@@ShermanChin I'm 100% sure this is a software issue
Because I use oled saver and always on display for temporary fix but when ever I make or receive a call, then the green screen comes on again. So I'll have to lock and unlock the phone again.
Really didn't expect this from samsung.
You can look through the comments. The Exynos problem is usually a hardware issue but even for the software issue, there has not been a fix till now. I would suggest just getting a new phone if it is no longer under warranty. It will just degrade further as time goes by unfortunately. Choose a Snapdragon or other brand next. I am personally using a cheap Nokia (typing on it now) as an temporary phone: th-cam.com/video/nk9dIxmCojk/w-d-xo.html
Has anyone been to the service center to get it fixed, if so how much did it cost?
Mine was under extended warranty but from what I hear, it is not worth getting it fixed now because prices for the Note 9 have come down so much on the secondary market. Just buy an almost perfect phone for the same price.
@@ShermanChin really wow, ok
Good luck and good hunting! Oh! The Galaxy S21 should be out next month so be prepared for even more price drops from flagship Samsung phones! 😊
Sure bro hardware problem
tried finding a fix and no luck. Best solution, avoid Samsung on next upgrade
Did you try the OLED Saver App? Anyway, I had to get my screen replaced so yeah, avoid the Exynos variant of Samsung phones for now unless their collab with AMD changes things.
My flickers goes crazy when i lower the brightness
That is interesting because another comment here said that lowering the brightness is a solution
Mine is doing it when it does finally come on the brightness full is best
@@DazTv2k I guess they are different issues so people should try what works best for their issue.
Sherman Chin mine just switched OG again it’s pissing me off I refuse to pay £200 for a new screen as it was on for 8 hours earlier then switched off again and flickering if any one finds a legit way to sort this issue hollar at me 👊🏽
@@DazTv2k unfortunately if it is a hardware issue, you will just be delaying the inevitable. I would just buy a new phone if I were you and had to pay so much to get the screen replaced.
Same here with 10se it flickers green screen and i've had for 1 year
Yeah, seems to occur after about 1 year 😢
M having the same green screen problem on my S9+.. I know abt temporarily soln... Iz it hardware problem or software... Pls tell me... Do customer care hv soln or nt...
I don't think Samsung will ever admit it is their mistake. If you are willing to pay, you can get the screen replaced.
S9+ displays cost me 17K in Indian Rupees @Samsung care which is quite expensive to invest in old phone... As in 17K brand new good options r available...
As m fond of curved edges n samsung display itz hard for me to switch... To other option..
@@harshu6392 then I suggest just waiting for the Note 20 Plus
i have a same problem today my note 9.did u have solution.
Please try the pinned comment to turn on Always On Display
My Note 9 kill because this problem after 4 years.😭😭😭
4 years is still quite a long lifespan for a phone these days though 😅
Mine screen just started acting up today, it's not that really green but kinda light yellowish color, pls let me know if u have any solution soon
Please try the Always On Display temporary solution in the pinned comment. Good luck!
@@ShermanChin thanks but, no luck at all :(
Oh no :( I guess the screen was really fried. I think mine was too. The Always On Display probably applied to green screen problems which were more of a tint.
So did you got a new phone or replacement?
@@ej1siktc the repair center replaced my screen and it works like new
Try turing on always on display
Didn't work for me before but should work if it is a software issue 😅
IT LOOKS LIKE A GPU ERROR. Same as notebook... 🤔 that expensive phonea really sucks...
They replaced the screen and not the GPU though to fix my phone.
@@ShermanChin i have the same problem...
@@ShermanChin u went to samsung service center to fix it?
Yes, I took it to the Samsung center but my warranty was expired. Luckily I remembered that the shop I bought it from offered an extra year of warranty from their own repairmen. They replaced the OLED screen for me free of charge. 😊
Just got my note 9 had to return got a new one instaid but this one is having green screen any fix
Please do return it as soon as possible. The green screen is a hardware problem and the screen should be changed while under warranty or it will keep coming back. Good luck!
@@ShermanChin I did fine a work around somehow when i log into my phone by tapping and entering pin it's fine but using power button it bugs out or touch sensor
@@ShermanChin also your screen issue is different than mine ,mine is less green and also phone works fine and. Some time works fine but never did in my work around. But still not fixed by new update I'll call warranty I did find out apparently it's the march update causing it
Oh! You got the March Update issue? That is an entirely different problem. However, since it is still under Warranty, better to change it anyway and not update.
@@ShermanChin I guess but got to wait a bit anyway if I wanted to do to not activated warranty atm.
Just had this issue since yesterday, based on some research they say the immediate issue might be a cable - the concern is that the phone was in my hand, I was updating F!@%# Bixby, when i unlocked phone, boom - all grainy green white... this is obviously a software based manufacturing defect no other explanation- samsung lost a long time loyalist
Exynos variant? Please do try turning on the Always On Display as suggested by some commentators here.
I have similar problem with my note 9 too....what is the problem actually
They fixed mine by replacing the AMOLED screen. I read that it might be a problem with the GPU bus to the screen causing the problem, hence it occurs more if you play graphical intense games with your Samsung device. Can't confirm though but by reading the comments here, it certainly sounds like it.
@@ShermanChin how much did it cost?
@@shubhashinimanikkandhan8047 thank goodness it was still covered under my 2-year extended warranty by the shop I bought it from so it was free! Otherwise you would have seen me trying to replace the screen myself considering that it would probably cost almost half the price of the phone itself.
@@ShermanChin oh dear to change the display for note 9 is almost the cost of buying a mid range smart phone. My warranty just over when its happen. 😔
@@kckfenyou can try purchasing the screen on ebay and then just paying a local mobile phone repair shop to fix it for you. Alternatively, just buy a new Note 10 lite now unless you don't trust Samsung's quality anymore. I might just give them one last chance with the S20.
my note 9 screnn turn green.can claim waranty ?
Depends on your warranty period. Mine had a 2 year warranty covered by the shop (not by Samsung) so they fixed it for free for me with their own repairmen.
Your lucky,my note 9 happen after 1month waranty end.
My suggestion is to get the second hand Note 9 Snapdragon version for roughly 300 usd.
Use an app called oled saver
According to some here, just turning on the Always On Display will be enough to save the screen for sometime.
One year before buy this mobile
My phones fine what's wrong with you all
You are one of the lucky ones
I think that's a damage lcd bro probably it got damage through a fall or somn.....it doesn't show any physical cracks on the display....that's how a damage oled looks
Nope, no fall. Taken care of very carefully. Almost never taken out at all but used mainly just to play games at home.
I am a Note 9 user too, almost people who had this phone faced this annoying issue.
I'm screen just keeps flashing
No choice but to get it replaced because you can't even see what is on screen to do anything 😅
After replacing screen did you face same problem??
Not yet 😅
