Jordan won his first championship in 1991, while Bird was still playing. Bulls defeated the Pistons. A team that nearly swept Larry Bird and the Celtics.
Its comments like yours that lead people to believe that Larry Bird fans stopped watching basketball after 1988. Clearly, you don't know your history

Bird's Celtics were no match for the late 80s Pistons. Because its a team sport. Does Isiah's Pistons beating and nearly sweeping Bird's Celtics mean Isiah is a better player than Bird? No. Isiah's team got better. Bird's team got worse. Its a team sport

I put Lebron over Bird. You don't even know basketball history properly. Lebron facing Golden State Warriors and averaging 34/8/8 is statistically better than anything Bird ever did.
Thats more impressive than Bird and Celtics beating an 8th seed Bulls team. You don't even watch enough basketball for a non biased opinion.

Bird is definitely the best, looking at the two as all around players and clutch players. LeBron chokes more often and Larry was a better shooter, passer, had a higher iq for the game and would play the entire game and not shoot then not play D like LeBron does.

People who only have seen LeBron play cannot have an opinion who is better because they did not see Lady Bird play every night. LeBron, is the one with the greatest ever, but Larry Bird is overall a better basketball player when it comes to every aspect of the game.

When MJ scored 63 in that playoff game against the Celtics and the Bulls still lost......that's what I think of when Bird and Jordan get compared. Sure Jordan had much better dunking skills and better selling sneakers, but if I had to start a team when both were in their prime, I'd pick Larry first if I wanted to win, if I just wanted to sell tickets I'd pick Jordan first. A few things I would like to say about BIRD. I was fortunate enough that my dad had seasons tickets when I was a young kid. I saw BIRD live about 85 times from the ages 6 thru 15. Firstly, he has the best opposite hand then any one whoever played basketball. Not only could he kill you righty, but his left hand was insane.
FACT. I once saw BIRD in a pregame interview shooting free throws lefty while being interviewed. He wasn't even really paying 100% attention as he was talking. I winessed him hit 37 in a row. My point, he can shoot free throws better lefty then Lebron can righty, or for that matter, many players. FACT. I witnessed BIRD grab a rebound in traffic, & throw a pinpoint pass 75 ft (LEFTY) to a cutting Danny Ainge, perfect and in the pocket. Ainge himself was stunned by the pass. BIRD is a better passer then Lebron, & could make much more difficult passes. He is a better clutch shooter, (BEST EVER), better rebounder, & at his peak was as good a one on one defender, as he played to his maximum effort on every play. However, I will say, he did not have the ability of Lebron to pull off ridiculous chase down blocks in his prime, but that's about it. BIRD ALSO had an even higher IQ & he played with more heart. Here’s an example. If I threw a ball to half court & both Lebron and Bird were 10 ft away, who's going to get the 50/50 ball? BIRD 90 percent of the time because he would give up his body. Can you imagine if BIRD was playing now - with no hand checking, Refs that let you palm the ball, & the pathetic, childish Eurostep (I like to call it adult travelling) Add in the fact that the league doesn't promote defense, & now, with the game played faster tempo, their is about 10 more offensive possessions a game. Then add in that BIRD averaged 2, three balls a game. Today he would be shooting 8 to 10
And finally, he would would be performing psychological warefare with Lebrons head.& completely confuse him, as he was a master trash talker. Please don't drink the coolade, as BIRD is superior, if not for a shorter time. I find it comical, that a person like MJ, who played the sport at a level as only he could, would be interrupted by ANYONE, when mentioning BIRD’s greatness.

  • @jimmyboy131
    @jimmyboy131 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Stats-wise I'd say Lebron has to be the greatest overall. He's play so long at such a high level. Accolades, skill, and particular stats, MJ would be one of the top contenders for greatest all around. Larry would be a top contender for greatest all around skill, particular stats, and court effectiveness, combined with accolades. For actual player skill and effectiveness combined with accolades, though, I'd put MJ and Larry at the top. I'd put Magic at #3.
For overall skill and effectiveness minus accolades it might be Wilt.
EDIT: I hope all that made sense...

I feel horrible for Wilt. From videos I've watched, it always kind of seemed like the NBA was out to get him. He'd set huge records. The NBA would suddenly change the rules so he couldn't do that anymore. So he'd set different records. The NBA would suddenly change the rules again so Wilt couldn't do more there either. He never seemed to really have a team built up to support him and his coaches seemed sub par. Sometimes I wish Wilt could have been born and played in the 80's, either on the Lakers or Celtics. To have players like Magic, Bird, McHale, Worthy, Kareem, and Parrish around him, I think he would have been an unstoppable force.

Bird SWEPT Jordan TWICE - its in the stats, but to be fair theres video of Larry Bird giving Jordan high praise (see below), in fact in one particular very hot game Jordan scored 63-! against Bird and the Celtics beating Larrys 60 in another game, but the Celtics STILL beat them and won the game, the game in question is on youtube -again to be fair theres a clip where Larry says about this game that he had never seen a performance like it before or since - Larry was quoted as saying "That wasnt Michael Jordan playing out there, it was God disguised as Michael Jordan" - and praise like that coming from Larry Bird doesnt come very often about anyone. Jordan was far more athletic than Bird, but Bird had ways of makiing up for it with court IQ and the fact that Larry was a great ALL AROUND player because he affected the game in many more ways than just dunking and scoring - its been said by NBA greats on video that though Larry was an all time great scorer he was also very dangerous WITHOUT the ball his passing, assists, steals, and so on were always a threat.

    Everybody ate under Lebron's watch.
It took him almost DECADE to get his first chip.
He needed Pat Riley, D Wade, Bosch and Ray Allen to teach him how to win.
As a rookie of the Year Larry flipped a 29 win team into a 61 win team with no other roster changes..
Larry's sophomore year? Won his 1st CHIP!( WITHOUT DJ, McHale, Parrish, Ainge or Walton!)
Larry led the NBA in Defensive Win Shares for 4 years and 2nd TWICE!
DWS is a stat dominated by legendary Power Forwards and Centers.
Lebron James who was a great defender when young, never lead in this critical stat.
LJB dominates LBJ in the most important stat of all, with a much higher career WIN percentage! .736 to Lebron's .650.
Lebron played in the Leastern Conference era while Legend played in the Beastern Conference era.

Bird vs Lebron comparison, stats and facts on a per game basis over their careers. Points: Bird 24.3 mostly from mid range and out. Lebron 27.2 with around 40% from dunks and layups made easier by rule changes that essentially keeps the defensive team out of the paint. Midrange %: Couldn't find Bird's but we know it was good. Lebron 37.5%, oookaaay? 3 pointers all time league average is about 35.5%: Bird 40.65%, Lebron 34.5%. Freethrow %: Bird 88.6%, Lebron 73.5%. Assists: Bird 6.3/game often from dazzling passes underneath the basket, Lebron 7.3/game usually from relatively easy passes to wide open shooters as the result of his ability to drive to the basket. Rebounds: Bird 10/game, Lebron 7.5/game. Blocks: both at 0.08/game. Steals: Bird 1.7/game, Lebron 1.5/game. Turnovers: Bird 3.1/game, Lebron 3.5/game which is one of the worst ever. Clutch: Bird all of the time: Lebron: other than a few in the playoffs absolutely terrible. Defense: Bird consistent with a few all defensuve teams, Lebron more defensive teams earned or not, but look at his defense now🤣 Hustle: both had their day, but Bird didn't stop even with a crippled back. It's not even close. In fact larry is my Goat. Jordan was unstoppable, but Bird was unbelievable. He did thinks that you just could not explain. Everybody said he's slow, he can't jump and his not athletic. But all he did was dominate everybody he played. He never lost to Jordan. That says it all!

Whoever the GOAT or the best small forward or whatever …Larry Bird joined Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain as the only 3 players to ever win 3 straight MVP’s…LeBron and MJ and KD cannot say it…plus Bird was voted Coach of the Year in 1998…and Executive of the Year in 2012…Bird had moves that others copied…but Bird was first…

Bird swept MJ twice when his back was fsked. The year after Bird retired, MJ became god of the NBA in my opinion.
Old, broken Bird gatekept him for two years. LeBron, still a god, I dont think would have been able to do so in a similar situation.

Who's the GOAT? Not really sure, I don't think it is really singular. I would definitely have Bird up there on the pedestal. Having grown up in the 80's near Boston and seeing him play both on TV and live at the Garden, I know the younger generation is sleeping on him. But was he better than Jordan? Well, he beat Jordon when he was playing hurt? But nobody can deny Jordan's greatness. Was he better than Magic? Not sure, but seeing two people in the GOAT debate play together in their primes makes that determination harder. How much more dominant would either have been had they not been in the same era? I would put any of those 3 above Lebron though. Lebron is great in his era, but I don't see him holding up in the Bird, Magic, Jordan era. With the rule changes, and change in play I think any of those 3 would dominate in today's era of basketball. And that's not trash-talking Lebron either, but keep in mind too, that those 3 greats played in an era when you generally remained loyal to a team, you didn't shop around to surround yourself with greats to get titles, it was up to you to make the players around you great, and elevate the team to greatness. It was just a different time.

There isn't a debate: any all time team without Bird is a phony list..in my opinion, your all time team is this:
    1) Jordan
    2) Bird
    3) Hakeem/Duncan/McHale
    4) West/Oscar
    5) Kareem/Russell/Wilt
Magic simply isn't the best point and belongs on a second team..Curry is nothing but a shooter.. LeBron wouldn't be on my 2nd team..does many things good, nothing great. Barry and Havlicek are better, plus Wilt

You call yourself Jordan fan? And you didn't know all 6 playoffs Bulls vs Celtics that had Jordan and Bird was 0 - 6? It's one of the main reasons why I hated Bird in the beginning and it came from when I was Magic fan. My top 3 is Jordan, 2nd, Magic and 3rd, Kobe. But if you ask me who the GOAT is, Bird, always, 2 top generation players was given hell by one player, Jordan was a bit lucky as well imo, as the talent pool started going down. Bird and Magic played at the highest golden talent pool in NBA history, but Magic had Kareem, yeah some would say Nird had Parish and McHale, but if you do e research, it's all thanks to Bird playing style and lack of greed, Bird assist to both of them were insane.

THERE IS NO DOUBT LABRON CAN DO THINGS THAT LARRY PHYSICALLY COULD NOT , BUT LARRY WAS A COMPLETE BASKETBALL PLAYER FOR THAT MATTER LEBRON OR MICHAEL WERE NOT. LARRY WAS TOP 5 IN JUST ABOUT EVERY CATEGORY GREAT PASSER LEBRON ALSO MICHAEL VERY GOOD BUT NOT IN LARRY OR LEBRON CLASS. LARRY WAS A BETTER REBOUNDER, A MUCH BETTER FREE THROW PLAER, BETTER 3 POINT SHOOTER ESPECIALY IN CRUNCH TIME, BETTER SHOOTER AND MUCH BETTER CLUTCH SHOOTING AT THAT ISN;T EVEN CLOSE . LEBRON BETTER ON DEFENCE LARRY WASN'T BAD THO ..HE HAS THE SECOND HIGHEST WIN PERSENTAGE IN THE NBA ALL TIME . AND Y THE WAY REGURLAR SEASON MIKE WON SOME GAMES AGAINST LARRY I THI BIRD WAS SOMETHING LIKE 16 AND 8 BUT PLAY OFF BIRD WAS 6 AND 0 AGAINST MICHEAL AND SWEPT HIM 2 TIMES

MJ pure hating, when ask the questions who better between mj and LBJ, Bird said himself LBJ is in a class by himself. They say mj is this and that, never put him in a class by him self. Remember that. Besides goats stink, kINGS prosper, on and off the court. How many points and rings mj go off the court? What has he done for y'all later, went up on his sneakers. I do tournament in the BRONX , got in touch with CP, and LBJ about some sneakers and uniforms, no problem. 10 pair all sizes, 7 to 12. Ask mj to do that, you'll never hear from his people. And the sellout had the nerve to say Curry's not a Hall of Famer, yet he is aware that bill Walton is considered one. Y'all got him rich and created a hater. It's all good, I'm a Hornets fan now. (Bye sellout)
