I'm not gonna diminish Jordan, him and Bird are both the GOATS. LeBron isn't even close he isn't a threat in the clutch, can't win without manipulating the teams, has an ego that doesn't match his actual ability, and is just soft compared to true greats.

Yea, which is why I don't like people who only look at stats. They usually don't tell you the full picture. Bird and Jordan could have averaged a lot more in their primes if they wanted to,but it wasn't needed. They played collectively and to win,not for stats. And yes, in catch-n-shoot situations it's hard to pick anyone but Bird. Maybe Reggie.

@@richarddoyle3340 myself I have three goats all at different positions. MJ, Bird and Kareem so no your not hurting my feelings at all even if you give a good argument about a different player. All I’m saying is that when you have 2 different teams and take just 1 player away from each team which team is hurt the most. Bull with MJ win 57. MJ leaves to play baseball and the Bulls win 55 without MJ. Not much of a difference. Celtics win 57 with Bird. The next year Bird is out because of surgery and the Celtics fall to 42 wins. Bottom line it’s a team sport and Bird made his teammates better and right there is the proof. Does that make Bird better? I’m not to sure about that but it sure gives you something to think about

Birds reflexes were so impressive man. His spacial reasoning was almost superhuman & he's also got Mum eyes*. And he did most of if playing hurt. Oh and by playing the better mental game too, telling opponents exactly what he was going to do et cetera. Fucking impressive dude man, competitive as all hell but not in a petty toxic way ya know? Love the dude.
*okay, so, Mum Eyes is knowing where every other player is & what they're doing/about to do at all times, even behind you et cetera. The same way a mum always knows where her young kids are & what they're doing/about to do, even when theyre behind her or in another room.

but lebron DOESNT have Birds KILLER mentality OR Jordans KILLER mentality. THATS what separates THESE two guys from EVERY one else (PLUS their skill AND fundamentals AND efficiency). . Lebron is much more like Bird than MJ (except for the shooting but in the all around game aspect, though bird was even MORE all around). KOBE is more similar to MJ. but if im starting a team, there is NO WAY i can pick lebron over MJ or Bird. NO WAY. maybe 3rd, over kareem.. MAYBE.

Bird passing the basketball meant an easy bucket to McHale or Parish who were reliable post scorers. Bird making the contested jump shot to the basket was usually an easy bucket which is why he made the best defenders look stupid and fell for the fakes every time. They knew to make the effort, even if it meant falling for his fakes, than to not contest him but Bird had all the tricks. When Jordan passed the ball, it was a more usual given he needed the ball back to score for the team. That was why Bird was so dangerous. I'm saying this as someone who has to admit that Jordan is the GOAT.

They're only pointing out the FACT that MJ had an inferior TEAM compared to all those other teams Zeke mentioned smh.
We're just gonna overlook the elephant in the room lol!
The reality is MJ was the BEST PLAYER(not best team) when he "first" entered the league, til he retired in 98 period.
Let's not cap, if MJ had those same 84 college players he played with that beat Magic, Bird and Isaiah in that Olympic exhibition game, then we already know what an 80's MJ would have done with a decent to good team in the 80's against those great historic teams "his team" lost to.

But are you gonna ignore that MJ( with the ball ) could score on you , averaged nearly a 30/10/10 triple double as a P.G.
Without the ball a lockdown defender & great help defender..
Let's ignore that LB was in his prime ( with 4 other H.O.F players) when MI came in.
Yes MJ was no competition for L.B in his 1st 5 years & L.B was no competition for MJ in his last 5 years either
Different career trajectories , can,t blame either for the no real rivalry between them( opposite peaks).

#8 seed vs. #1 seed. Jordan came to garbage, Bird had DJ (Finals MVP), Kevin McHale (arguably best post moves ever), Robert Parish, Bill Walton off the bench. Bird retired in 1992. Where was he when the Bulls got their pieces? He had 2 seasons with 50+ win teams in the late 80's , Failed to meet Jordan in playoffs. I hate it when people compare #8 seeds with #1 seeds. Only 4 times in NBA history has an #8 seed knock off a #1 seed. 🙄🙄

Don't forget about Parish. There is no way people can rationally bash Jordan for losing to those Celtics teams. They had 4 Hofers as starters,Hofer coach, great bench. The 1986 Celtics went 40-1 at home. Meanwhile a young Jordan was playing to guys who had never made an All star team.

This is why it’s so hard to pick a GOAT. On any given day Kareem is better than MJ but Bird was better than Kareem this time but MJ dominated these guys later and LeBron was just carrying lottery teams to the finals then Kobe won without Shaq…but Shaq won without Kobe, Wilt dropped 100 points, the Big O was a triple double machine…maybe it should just be at that time that guy was the GOAT or by position even. Bron and Jordan don’t even play the same position or have the same responsibility on the court. Larry vs Bron is a better comp. Mike vs Kobe or Jerry West. Magic, Steph, Isiah as the greatest PG? Shaq, Wilt Russell or Kareem, or if you’re daring, Hakeem. Really the only spot I don’t have multiple GOAT candidates for is P.F. cuz it’s Timmy D then everyone else. But I’m always confused as to how Timmy D gets overlooked for GOAT status, he got five and was the key player for all of them, Spurs weren’t winning without even late career TD. His finals record rivals Kobe and Magic’s but he wasn’t flashy or noisy so we forget about him. Ijs you can make a good case for a handful of guys as greatest basketball player of all time. I personally think MJ has the greatest overall package on and off the court but I’m never going to say other guys don’t have a strong case.

  • @cgyiltis

peak players should be compared, like you wouldnt compare 2023 LeBron with 88 MJ or 86 Bird. just not fair. Bird play actually 7 years at 100% and if you check the stats, in the first 7 years, there is no other player close to him. In modern basketball (70s-now). like Bird made his teammates great, while LeBron left Cleveland to a superteam because was unable to carry the team, MJ had to wait for great players to join the bulls, Lakers had Kareem, one of the players in the GOAT talk. think about it. I know at the end of the day everybody prefer what they saw playing (like me, rather take bird than any other player to start my franchise). Mike was a phenomenon, while bird/magic rescued bball, MJ took it world wide, from fashion to style of playing. i guess at the end of the day is a personal choice and mine is Bird over anybody.

Now I'll give it to this video. Jordan never beat Bird, or the pistons in the 80's, until his team got more experienced. BUT you have to hold your GOAT lebron to the same standards. He never beat Paul pierce, KG and Ray Allen, or Tim Duncan and company until he got better teammates, D Wade and Chris Bosh after 9 years in the league. As far as the Pistons, most of their players were in their late 20's when the Bulls finally beat them. Isaiah said they were past their primes, false.

And also the special treatment from the NBA refs, with those ticky-tak phantom calls for Jordan, made it harder for opposing teams to defend him!!! Just like Tom Brady in the NFL, you couldn’t go near Jordan, or defend him, it would be a foul!!! Jordan in the 80s was a NON-FACTOR! He didn’t get that SPECIAL TREATMENT from the Refs until Jordan started complaining to the League and media that he was being physically abused/assaulted, by the Detroit Bad Boy Pistons, Jordan cried to the media that the Detroit Pistons were trying to end his career! The NEW Rule changes were needed in 90s for that reason, but unfortunately it went overboard & overblown after the “Malice in the Palace”, that hard fouls, talking trash, taunting, or celebrating after a dunk or score, became a TECHNICAL FOUL!
