We do actually, it's called the Xfinity stream app and it lets you watch both streaming and cable service without having to rent a cable box every month, as long as your TV is smart of course
I’m a Xfinity tech. The remotes are directional at the beginning of the setup. Once you reach the end of the setup it’ll connect in RF. Once that’s done. You can hide the box behind the tv. You can use flex boxes (XI6) without our modem. As long as you have internet with us you should be eligible.
Hello... Seems like I met the right guy though this post is old. Can you please tell me how to solve internet issues (xfinity) when modem is offline(lets say I am using xb7). Here are the things I've checked before contacting you: 1. Coaxial cable are tightly screwed. 2.everything is on. 3.there is no outage in my area. Please don't share this to anyone. I want it to be confidential between us.
@@mughaawomi972 is the modem new to you (new services) or did u just upgrade the modem? It’s most likely that where your plugging in the modem there’s no good signal flowing through the coax.
The remote is really cool honestly. Buttons are a bit stiff but still nice. Remotes has motion sensor; when moved, it lights up for easy access in dark.
Great video review. It’s very accurate given my experience. But a couple of things. The first flex box is free. Each additional one is a monthly fee. It also does not provide any local channels whatsoever. I ended up getting rid of my flex boxes and replacing them with 4K Amazon firesticks. More apps and you can jailbreak them to get tons of new, free movies.
So a few years ago (maybe when you made this video) there was a thing through comcast where you could get a year access to Peacock free, but you had to get one of those boxes. So I signed up to get a box, installed peacock on my smart TV, used the codes or whatever to sign up for peacock, and when package from comcast came, never even opened it. The peacock deal has long since expired and the flex box is still in it's mailing package in my closet. It still shows up as a line item rental on my bill for $0.00. I'm wondering if they ever will ask for it back? If not, then somewhere, maybe 30 years later, it'll be on a retro unboxing video on the future equivalent of youtube. I just found this video because I was discussing the comcast streaming box on facebook, and I decided to look up reviews to see what it was like.
Voice just makes it easier to listen to your conversations. Paranoid? Maybe a little since Comcast doesn't allow end user to look behind the curtain. I'd be happy for starters if the setup would allow setting a static IP.

15 to 20 years ago you had all the content you could handle and wanted coming out of your cable box for somewhere between 50 and $80 a month. And that’s all you had to worry about. Hundreds and hundreds of channels for about $50-$80 a month. Then everybody decided that it would be easier and less expensive to cut the cord and go with all streaming services. So now, I’m getting the same exact channels, the same exact content from the same exact providers, just delivered through third-party online platforms for about $100-$150 a month. We haven’t really replaced anything. We’ve taken the exact same crap and just made it more time-consuming to access. This isn’t smarter or more pragmatic in anyway.
You are right about the online interface being difficult to enter a long/complicated wifi password. After a few attempts, I realized there was a WPS button on the password screen, and since I have my own router that has a WPS button, I was able to connect fairly quickly without having to enter my password by clicking the WPS button on screen and then the one on the router.

My remote does not look list this one. Mine is XR16 (newer?). Only 9 buttons, not all the buttons shown in this video. The XR16 is the nicest remote I've ever used. Simple--not 27 or 32 confusing buttons. The few buttons perform all functions I need. Best of all: Illuminated, which ALL remotes should be but often aren't. Voice control. And control of TV on-off and volume. I ditched my two Roku devices and now use (2) Flex devices and remotes. For my needs, Flex does all the same things. As for "free." I got my first one free, but pay $5/mo. for the second one. Finally, I had no problem setting up the device and remote. Good job, Comcast.
I love it. I now get the Choice package for $20/month where I get all my locals and can record. With Philo and Xfinity’s Choice package total $40/month just using my Flex Box.
I just got rid of my cable and connected my flex box. I love the remote design with backlight and voice command but that’s about it. It doesn’t matter what i watch the screen goes black and then goes back to the main menu after 5-7 minutes. I’ve tried resetting, refreshing and checked all the settings. (Possibly just a bad box) I also noticed it can not be powered off so i wonder if it’s going to eat up my data at night while it’s not being used. There has to be a reason why they’re giving it away for free. Curious to see if i’ll have a separate tax for internet and tv now.
One thing I noticed that you didn't mention is that if you have X1 Flex system, you can add broadcast TV (for $$$) to get regular TV channels without adding any other hardware. I just wanted the local channels, so I subscribed to the minimum cable offering. But the really slick thing for us 'non-cord-cutters' is that you don't need a regular cable box at the TV like you used to have to. When using the little Flex box, your regular TV channels come wirelessly from the Gateway (Modem/Router) just like the streaming channels! And you use the remote to 'combine' your streaming and your regular TV into one spot and one Remote. And the voice input on the Remote allows you to search for content and you may find some on the TV channels and others on the streaming channels all grouped together. This reduces clutter quite a bit, because now you don't have to have the old style cable box at each TV or a cable outlet either. You just place one of these little flex boxes with each TV and it connects wirelessly back to the Gateway, and you get regular TV and streaming channels on every TV. There can be as many as 5 TVs hooked to one Gateway this way.
If it would let me use sling id use it. They won't so it sits in my closet. I tried to tell them not to send it but they insisted. It looks sleek let more apps be available otherwise people won't use it.

As an audio video installer I have talked to many customers that wanna “cut the cord” so to speak. No actual cords are ever cut by the way. If xfinity wants to keep their customers it pretty simple for them. People generally are happy with cable. It has Netflix and everything built into one remote. All xfinity needs to do is stop raping their customers wallet every month. Nobody wants a car payment size bill every month for cable. The initial sign up contract expires. And suddenly the bills get huge. Comcast simply needs to appreciate their customers and treat them fairly. Their customer service is terrible. Their automated phone line is so frustrating to get through to speak to an actual human WHEN you have a problem. And Maybe improving their equipment quality so the cable boxes and router don’t need to be rebooted so often couldn’t hurt either. If Comcast concentrates on being better at the service they charge way too much for nobody would leave. High priced shitty service isn’t the best business model.

For example, fire stick will search Amazon but not sift through Netflix and open Netflix for me to watch it kind of deal.
Yea you can't download apps but the vast majority that matter or I should say the ones that I subscribe to are already there with the exception of Crunchyroll for anime but meh its not gunna kill me
Thank you so much for stopping me from slinging my remote into the wall! 🤣 I am a cord cutter and they installed my flex box and left. I have been struggling with this remote for a couple of weeks. Now I understand how it works and I may be able to enjoy more TV now that I have more control over the remote! Thanks again!
The remote is directional before setup so you don’t end up pairing your neighbor’s Flex or them pairing yours.

Damn I can't I imagine living that Close to each other lol

Hulu will actually be available on the X1 platform, as well as Flex. Also Peacock will be available as well!
How can I sign in into hulu ? I click on the application but it doesn't show any sing in options .. help please .
Hulu is active now on my box
Most smart tvs have these apps already installed or you can download them
I got mine yesterday, it is very well made, has an hdmi input and output on back ,he failed to mention controller is actually nice made well and is very easy to use.I think sometimes reviewers hate on products because they know that's what people want to hear. Hulu will be available in March. I Had roku and apple tv in the early years and trust me they didn't either have hardly any apps. For a free 4k streaming device it's very nice and quality made .I believe xfinity made right choice with this for internet only customers,I believe before long you will have the spotify and disney before it's all said and done , I suggest if you can get this for free I would ,you can always send it back but I believe you will see it's TRUE potential before long.
I never knew that I had it coming so I am happy. I am just moving and don't have a Fire Stick yet so I am grateful and excited to set it up. Good Video. Helped me alot!
This box would be great if they support their own Stream App to watch their TV service without needing to be in the X2 ecosystem. They are missing a great opportunity to replace a Roku or nVidia Shield and add in their apps on top then it would be great.
We do actually, it's called the Xfinity stream app and it lets you watch both streaming and cable service without having to rent a cable box every month, as long as your TV is smart of course
Thanks for the info, I won’t bother installing since I have all roku tvs in my home.
Sticking with my Roku devices. One day when I'm actually able to switch ISPs, I don't want to be stuck with their boxes.
Roku is the best plus I have AT&T internet
I’m a Xfinity tech. The remotes are directional at the beginning of the setup. Once you reach the end of the setup it’ll connect in RF. Once that’s done. You can hide the box behind the tv. You can use flex boxes (XI6) without our modem. As long as you have internet with us you should be eligible.
Hello... Seems like I met the right guy though this post is old. Can you please tell me how to solve internet issues (xfinity) when modem is offline(lets say I am using xb7). Here are the things I've checked before contacting you:
@@HauTuGi okay.. Thank you so much for your help. May god bless you. I wish I could learn more about flex, TV service voice and many more from you.
If that is possible, will there be any other platform, where we can have thorough conversation ?
I would love to learn from you.
You didn’t mention the main feature is the VOICE REMOTE. So much interaction like an Alexa
It took him an hour to pair the remote...
I guess that feature is for next time 😀
Can I connect flex and roku at the same time?
The remote is really cool honestly. Buttons are a bit stiff but still nice. Remotes has motion sensor; when moved, it lights up for easy access in dark.
I wish my Fire TV remotes lit up. I do like how the Flex remote lights up.
I'm passing on this xfinity has been pushing this hard because I'm a internet subscriber.
Their pushing it to give you more reason to choose them over another internet provider like FiOS. It's free so no point not to use it
So a few years ago (maybe when you made this video) there was a thing through comcast where you could get a year access to Peacock free, but you had to get one of those boxes.
Did not even mention the voice remote. Makes controlling it a lot easier. I agree though. Roku is better.
Voice just makes it easier to listen to your conversations. Paranoid? Maybe a little since Comcast doesn't allow end user to look behind the curtain. I'd be happy for starters if the setup would allow setting a static IP.
Is this a replacement for a cable box? Or just comparable to a roku or something

This unit was offered when I completed my cheap 1 year starter offer with Xfinity. I picked a new offer for existing customers which dropped the bill from 69.00 to 45.00. I use my own cable modem and a separate WiFi router. The flex easily connected to WiFi and was up and running. Mine must be a stripped down model. No number buttons on the remote. I used it on my projector, since my main big tv already has streaming. The directional, fussy IR remote sucks! I need to see if this one has an RF option.. I doubt it does.
Looks like the same apps available through their xfi system.
They just added Hulu this month but I was really hoping for TH-cam TV. I have to use my PS4 just for the TH-cam TV.

Thanks for your informative and Candor presentation. Though as one of millions of Comcast/Xfinity hate club I was contemplating on whether it was time to give them the benefit of doubt by ordering that "Flex view" thing they have been bugging me about for the past two years! Coming across this youtube convinced me that I have been doing the RIGHT thing by keeping my involvement with Comcast to the minimum. After all, they are in it for their own benefits NOT mine... and I am sure I would have regretted it, if I would have decided to fall for their gimmickry in the way of hidden fees added to my #INTERNET only bills.. Just like they always DO... So thanks for this video once again.
To pair the remote to the XI6 you first point it to the front of the box with the small white light. Once paired you can hide the box. The remote works over a RF single rather than IR.
Thanks for making this ! I just ordered mine !
xfinity internet sucks 1tb cap and now they add in a nice lil device to blow thru ur data quicker
Stephen H exactly
How can you possibly use that much data?
@@chigginskeywest 4K, multiplied by multiple screens in some cases. Steam, XBox, and PlayStation games and updates. Setting up a new 1TB XBox system on a pre-existing fully loaded account can use it all at once!
Chad Higgins I do it several times a year. They give like 2 months exemptions and I usually talk my way out of any other penalty. I’m a family of six who streams everything.
You can now ask for unlimited data and not have the 1TB cap. It’s like $11 to $20 more

OH MY GOSH thank you! I was having the same issue with my remote lol. I appreciate this! I feel so slow now
There is an input HDMI port, what is that for?
Does Xfinity have 4k now?
Yes, the flex has 4k in it, if you have cable, make sure you have the latest dvr x1, then you can have 4k
I'm so glad I watched this before I installed it. Free TV, but with commercials. I haven't watch commercials in 15+ years unless it's something special. So this is going back to Xfinity.
Good timing on this, thanks. I ended getting one to put in my PC room to turn one of my spare monitors into a smart TV for those times when I'm fiddling with my Linux VM box and don't have access to working browsers while configuring things.
Thank you for the remote tip I've been at it for hours!!!! I am that somebody out there you helped with this issue!
I saw Sling, which is odd. I also heard you get ESPN 3 free which is cool. How about Netflix, Amazon, Etc.. 4k.Atmos.
Does the new box Will still allow you to Record your favorite Show ? Or only the x1starter box ?
I use my own modem and router and I agree it seems weak to me also
You can use the xi6 with your own gear now....Comcast says you can't but you can I even have it hard wired into my Netgear router and my XB7 is in bridged mode.
Okay out of all the things he said, Pluto and Tubi stood out. What channels do those have?
Nvidia Shield is my streaming device. I could never allow myself to use a limited option device such as the Flex, which in all reality keeps you on the Xfinity bandwagon. No thanks!
You can't download apps to it like a firestick?
It's also free with your internet through Xfinity... All these other services cost extra
By Rokus or Firesticks for all your TVs instead of just using the Xbox one. My son only use his for gaming and I installed a Roku on his TV. He has access to the Xfinity Stream app since we still have the X1 platform with DVR.😏
Not bad first attempt, but I will stick with my Nvidia Shield.
11 minute plus review. Usually I am jumping forward or anxiously waiting for the talking head to just shut up. Not today, Brian. Not today. Kept my attention the whole time with useful information and a great presenter and presentation. If you are considering the free Xfinity Flex, watching this review is definitely worth your time.
I never heard about the flex
I’m further behind than you. I hadn’t heard about it(and probably still wouldn’t) until I called & said that I wanted to lower my bill by dropping the cable while keeping the phone & internet. The agent was faster than Usain Bolt to offer this service after she tried to get me some poopy short term deal beefier going back to my sky high rate.
Why would you leave off the voice remote? That’s one of the biggest features!
(Possibly just a bad box)
I also noticed it can not be powered off so i wonder if it’s going to eat up my data at night while it’s not being used.
Holly D can you send it to me? I’ll use it.
Can you have both Roku and Xfinity flex? I love my roku but they’re sending me the flex box to set up
would think so as long as you have enough HDMI ports
I disagree with his review. Flex gives you the apps necessary, voice remote, and 10,000 + free movies. Vs other networks, you only get internet. Great new feature from xfinity !
It is a great feature and its wireless with the internet plus flex is free with tons of content that's a great deal to me
It's pretty much the same service you get with any smart tv though.
Boot licker. Flex TH-cam Tv app crashes all the freaking time. Also Flex doesn’t even has a web browser among their apps. I have flex and it truly sucks. The only reason I have it is because was free. Though it 100% sucks.
Do you have any information on X1 where you can use you Xfinity Flex to purchase Choice TV? It’s offered on the Xfinity Flex for $30 / month, no contract, can cancel any time.
I use TH-cam tv; app doesn't seem available on flex, if I find this tru that I can't stream TH-cam tv, then it will not be used and back to xfinity it will go - free

Exactly. There's no real need for this if you have a firetv, roku, or just a smart tv with apps.

Thanks. I just renewed my annual Xfinity contract (Internet only), and they sent me this. No explanation about what it was and whether I needed to install it. But I found this helpful video (thank you!). I seldom watch movies or use my smart TV, but I do have an Amazon Firestick and my son shares his Netflix account with me for the occasional movie or video that I want to watch. After viewing your video, I'm concluding that I don't need to bother installing this but that I should keep it in a drawer and subscribe to your videos in case they add something useful. Does that sound right?
you'll be charged an equipment rental fee monthly of you don't use the flex. send it back
TLDR: Your smart TV already does all of this. You don't need Flex.
You get The Peacock channel(the NBC channel) for free only with flex.
John Gallagher this includes with Flex, X1, XI5 and XI6
And I got Peacock, but I prefer HBO Max
Can it work on old analog tv without HDMI plug in ?
Yeah, I'll stick with my "Android Box" with a VPN, thank you very much
