My last Vasaloppet in 2019 was exactly like this. 7:05 after all the effort of a seeding race in Austria, qualifying for group 3. Perfect conditions until the morning of the race and then 30cm of snow for the first 3-4 hours. Left me with no idea of where I was really at. Decided that the main event wasn’t worth the effort any more and registered for the Nattvasan 2024, which was epic! There are lots of great ski marathons that don’t require a huge effort, but are still extremely rewarding and enjoyable - Finlandia Hiihto, Toblach - Cortina, etc.
Have enjoyed your videos this year for my first vasaloppet. Was freaking tough this year! In start group 9, took 2 hours to get to the top of the hill and was brutal from there. Enjoyed your video to give me comfort I wasn't the only one who properly suffered on Sunday. Keep up the vids!
Good job! Nice video! 07:49 is great given the conditions. I did the race one week before one sunday, öppet spår. Conditions where bad for us too but looks like it was even worse for you.
Well done Andreas and awesome video as always ! Well understand your initial feelings, especially after such a phenomenal Vas45 time and all the trainings. I live at Jizerska 50 area and conditions were very similar last year, so I can imagine how hard it was for you (and all). While I'm by far not as good c.c. skier as you are, Vasaloppet is on my "dream list". Hopefully next year I'll try and with the only ambition...to make it to the finish line no matter time 🙂. Be well !
Thank you very much! Would be fun to try Jizerska one time, but not in similar conditions 😅 Hope to see you at Vasaloppet next year. I’m sure you will make it with no problem!
Thank you so much ! And you don't hesitate to reach out if you're coming over here one time (if there's a snow and no more cancellations...🙏), will be pleased to meet you in person !
very well done anyway, it was a tough one. i did a 8.21 which was 30 mins slower than last year, start in row 6, slow climbing up the starting hill, but i picked up 1300 positions from highest point to goal. quite obvious everyone was suffering during these conditions. next year definitely getting some advice and a few skis setup for different conditions so i know i have good gliders when the right conditions hit :) loved seeing the scenery again after having done it so recently. keep it up ✌✌
Always big fan of your XC context, especially as a rookie in XC skiing, Your Videos do motivate me to work hard. This year Vasaloppet was a struggle no doubt about that. How would your time have been if you did not train several hours a week and competing in the weekends. Being well prepared did benefit you doing those 90 km to Mora, and overall I do think you did a great job, just remember only 11.000 people completed this year Vasaloppet. Not saying I am looking forward to next year race, but I am looking forward to follow your journey to Vasaloppet 2025, and let’s see if its possible to meet up and race together 😀 Best of Luck Andreas
Looks like he skated a little himself at 6:29-6:45. But as previously said, the condition were a bit rough this year and many seemed to struggle with the double poling technique when the tracks got bad and there were poor resistance for the poles forcing them to “walk” which they can’t do properly and so they glide on each step = skating.
Yup, I am by no means perfect and the more tired you get, the more difficult it is not to glide on your skis. They have people in the course who look out for it, so it’s easy to get dsq’ed. And yeah, the conditions didn’t exactly help 🤷♂️
Worldloppet has some fun races that you should consider. They are all less then 90 km 😂 - It took me three attempts (COVId/weather) before I could finish Fossavatnsgangan but I was lucky with Marcialonga, Engadine, Königslaufet, Dolemittenlaufet, Birkerennet and USA Birkie. Lots of travel, but fun
Hehe, ja, starter man i led 10 så blir det brutalt lenge å vente i bakken. Tror det ikke tok mer enn 20 min til en halvtime for meg. Ekstra ille i år tror jeg for alle da.
Its impossible to really race the popular ski marathons. Im in US and even here there are some races that are too crowded to really race. The birkie (US version) has traffic in wave 1 - right behind elites. Which seems crazy.
So think to the ones who missed the start (20 min) because of the traffic and have to double many thousands of people before the finish line .. just when you struggled DPoling the whole year to get a front wave ...
I heard about some of those. It’s always massive traffic in the morning leading up the start so it’s important to get up super early. It’s gotta suck to miss the start if you qualified for a start group in the front.

Thank you! Yeah, not the best conditions unfortunately, but nice that you did oppet spår. Shame with the weather this year.

Awfully unfortunate conditions! Appreciate the "bad vibes" more than fake enthusiasm. Sticking around for more videos for sure!
Yeah, not much to do about the weather unfortunately. But thank you, appreciate it!

Great video! Pretty glad I didn’t participate this year😅
Thank you. Yeah, don’t think anyone regret watching it from the couch this year 😅

5:56 number 12932 is skating..
Yeah, but in these conditions, I think we can forgive him.

I feel like it’s always bad for vasa, but sometimes it surprises you. Well done for finishing, I didn’t so going to stick with the 45 next year 😂
Sorry to hear you didn’t finish and the 45 is a nice race as well. Think you should try the whole race again next year. You’ll make it, I’m sure 😉
The conditions were what they were. Nature leads the dance. Adjust!
Yup, agree. Just couldn’t adjust, but maybe next year.

Gonna have to look into that 😉👍🏻 Cool that you’ve done all of them.
Though weather conditions . Regardless time, you completed. Well done 🌟 I'm thinking about people starred in the last group 😬
Thank you! Yeah, the people in the back most have had it rough this year.
Try the Troll Ski, they usually have great tracks.
Unfortunately the Troll Ski Marathon will no longer be organized. But it was a very nice course, indeed!

Yeah, you have to be pretty far up in the starting groups to really race Vasaloppet.
So think to the ones who missed the start (20 min) because of the traffic and have to double many thousands of people before the finish line .. just when you struggled DPoling the whole year to get a front wave ...

Vilket led startade du i?
Startet i led 3 👍🏻
Started in line 7, I thought that it was a bit better up front, but obviously it wasn’t 😢 had the same feeling as you, big disappointment …
Yeah, that’s how it is sometimes and I can understand that it most have been hard from line 7. There’s always next year I guess 🤷♂️
Ja det var tøft i år. Men da øker oddsene for bedre forhold neste år tenker jeg. Staking i disse forholdene må ha vært...interessant :)
Hadde nok gått betraktelig raskere med feste for meg i år ja. Men får håpe på bedre forhold neste år ;)
@@andreasfausko Åkte du hela utan fäste?!? :O
Yes, kun stak 😅🤷♂️
Led 4 still with 7:32. Not that bad.
I was in led 3 actually 😅 But not too bad I guess. Just hoped it would go a bit faster.
Roligt att du filmade så man fick se igen hur det såg ut 🥶 jag var precis framför dig vid högsta punkten 🥵
