As a hybrid owner, I love the idea of plug-ins, especially for short trips in the winter where hybrid doesn’t meet the fuel economy estimates. I do think it’s a fairly small minority of people who will go to the effort of plugging the car in regularly. I guess it’s good they come with a premium price to weed out the people who aren’t serious about plugging in.
PHEVs are a good compromise, for now, as I don’t think EVs and the infrastructure is where it needs to be to be truly mainstream yet. In 5-10 years yes but now not quite.
I have lots of faith of Toyota hybrid and PHEV, their reliability record is amazing. What I am worrying is whether NX450 will have the same pathetically long waiting list as RAV4 Prime. Or will the introduction of NX shorten the waiting list of the RAV4.
Hybrid demand is far exceeding supply on Lexus side. But 450h+ not as much. Not seeing as many coming but RX 350h sold as soon as they come up in system. The NX hybrids aren’t getting sold that quick.
This is the entry level Lexus that I love and willing to buy over any other in its class. It’s near perfect modern compact luxury SUV. It looks far better than the RAV4 Prime and it looks better than any compact luxury SUV you can name. Moreover, the quality, reliability, dealer service satisfaction, lower cost of maintenance and retaining high resale value of Lexus brand. The new NX is definitely a winner and the NX450h is my favorite.
I wish more vehicles had the touchpad - I agree its not as intuitive as touching the screen [for setup], however when you're driving, a touchpad IMHO provides superior ability to do simple switching tasks by feel. With system going all touchscreen now, I'd be thrilled with a trackpad and would learn pretty quickly how to navigate the menu/UI structure by feel and corner of vision glances. Touchscreens in my opinion, require more focused attention and being farther away, I tend to have to reach.
The door latch make sense because you don’t have to change your grip from opening the door and holding it out so that it doesn’t ram into the car next to you. You don’t usually grip onto the usual door latch/levera
Well, I am not made of money, and I am simply not convinced that the extra 15 grand is worth it compared to the RAV4 Prime. Good review as always though.
In our testing, we beat the Lexus-estimated acceleration to 60 mph by a full half-second, hitting 60 in 5.5 seconds versus the quoted 6.0-second time. That's quicker than the other 2022 NX models we've tested, but a 2021 XC60 Recharge reaches 60 in a MotorTrend-tested 5.0 seconds. We haven't yet tested a Q5 plug-in, but Audi estimates its model to be just as quick as the Volvo. In case you wonder, the lighter-weight RAV4 Prime matches the NX450h+'s 5.5-second time to 60. This means the NX plug-in hybrid is both the quickest NX money can buy and the slowest SUV in its tiny segment.

I was at the Lexus Dealership in BC and the wait list for this vehicle is 2.5 years as of January 2022, and the Rav4 Prime has a 3 years wait list. Ended up with the BMW X3 PHEV base model for the time being until Toyota sort out their logistics.

Is there not some kind of a bumper standard in North America that requires a car to sustain minimal damage from a collision on the bumpers? Perhaps the collision avoidance system is protecting against that, but what if someone backs into you while parallel parking?

Is it weird that I'm actually kinda disappointed with the interior? For the asking price, and especially how expensive it can get, it doesn't seem premium. No leather or stitching on the dash or covering the door panels, basic headliner material, not even standard leather seats, etc. I personally think the 14" screen is way too big, and doesn't look "premium". Something like the Genesis GV70 blows this out of the water, the only real downside being is no hybrid or plug-in model for that vehicle.
The Interior is impressive in the NX, but I wouldn't choose it over a Prime. I absolutely love my XSE Rav4, but I believe with a Panoramic roof and powertrain available on the Prime, I would more than satisfied.
I’m psyched that they finally replaced that nasty trackpad interface. A new era, a brighter one has begun for Lexus. Dunno about the new gear lever, but still, a great improvement overall.
Out of those 4 others, I'd only look at the RAV4 Prime. Toyota's hybrid systems are far and away the class leader, nothing else comes close. Also, the RAV4 Prime and NX450h+ are made in Japan.
Great review! Hmm…I have a RAV4 Prime and originally thought this is not worth the upgrade in price since it’s the same powertrain, but…I like some of the luxury…Wish it was standard with a 6.6kw charger. I think the 3.3 is standard and the 6.6 is an upgrade option. That’s the same in the RAV4 Prime…no bueno…LMFAO about the infotainment being 5x faster! That last iteration was from the Mesozoic era! How’s the storage in the rear compared to the RAV4 Prime? Same, a little less due to more noise cancelling foam, etc.? The RDX is too over the top on the interior and the dash is ridiculous…that huge button in the middle is unnecessary…And, a ten speed tranny is just too much shifting…and no PHEV. The Lexus kills it in every category. BTW, I haven’t watched in a while and didn’t realize this was your channel since Andrea is highlighted on the thumbnail? Why aren’t you on their too? I’m guessing the analytics say you’ll get more clicks with a female on the thumbnail…I hope that’s not the reason…
The top of the line 2022 Acura RDX A-Spec with Advance package is $51,800 (US). It'll be interesting to see what the NX 350 will go for, but the run flats are a deal breaker for me.

You will probably be on the phone or listening to the radio or music so you might not hear it when driving…You might even have a spouse or kid/family friend with you chatting away so I doubt this will be a problem.
Not only do run-flat tires get loud but there is no spare tire available. We have friends who own BMW's and they have been in a bind many times when their run-flat tire blew and were in an area where they couldn't find/buy another. It is okay if it happens in a city that has a BMW dealership but if you are not, it's very inconvenient. Luckily, we had a larger vehicle and were able to pick them up on the side of the road as we were both vacationing together. It was a real hassle for them to find one and ended up staying at the resort longer than they planned until they could get one.
@@andreaspencer9813 we were quite sceptical when my wife got her 2019 UX with run flat tires. When researching the negatives on these tires the concerns was pretty much what you mention on your reply. While we do mostly city driving in our UX hybrid we also do long trips and the only issues we had all this time was a couple nail punctures and they were repaired like any other conventional tire. Sure it’s always good to have a spare, I prefer it myself. But To be honest I don’t remember the last time I had use the spare on my 2016 Tacoma because I had flat or blown tire except, to rotate all 5 tires when needed. I think proper tire maintenance is the key. Weather your car run flats or not. What I’m saying is we haven’t experienced a blown tire with any vehicles we have or had. And we do quite a bit of it. But again, sure accidents can happen
Thanks for this one as well Zack and Andrea! One question - as this is based on the updated RAV4 platform, if you look at both cars side by side, do they have identical 2nd row and boot space? Or does the RAV4 have more space?
The RAV4 has more space. Interestingly enough, the dimensions of the Lexus NX are very similar to the Q3 which is in a totally different category. - Andrea
I don't know about that 14" screen....it seems distracting. With so many features it likely gives you all kinds of prompts to pay attention. My car has some correction it offers me frequently...I'm waiting for it to ask if its being driven by a toddler.
The Lexus NX 350 is a great vehicle but in Canada it is very expensive compared to the RDX. For value the RDX wins! But, if you want a Hybrid or a PHEV, the RDX doesn't offer either.

From an overall ride quality perspective, the NX350h's suspension will easily reach its bumpstops through larger bumps and struggles to settle down over stretches of uneven pavement. The cabin is proper luxury-SUV quiet, but the rest of the experience fails to live up to that standard...." Motor Trend
The nx plug-in from what I heard you can get the pano roof but only with the luxury package. You can’t combine the pano and f sport packages
Are you going to review just the hybrid?
@MotormouthThank you very much for the review. I am 6 feet tall keeping the seat all the way down I feel there is no enough headroom for that model .
Why don’t you get a rebate, but there is a rebate with plug in Jeep Wrangler, which cost around 55k
Nx 450h+ order wait time is 6 weeks according to my local lexus dealer told me.
We like run flat tires. It’s a safety feature and allows for more storage.
The top of the line 2022 Acura RDX A-Spec with Advance package is $51,800 (US). It'll be interesting to see what the NX 350 will go for, but the run flats are a deal breaker for me.
In terms of value the MDX it's going to be hard to beat.
Please review Kia Sorento PHEV
We are getting it shortly, stay tuned!
@@andreaspencer9813 We don't even get that in Korea. Wish we did.
Seems like everything about a modern vehicle's driving dynamics has to do with its television screen on the dash and that hole in the ceiling.
"...television screen on the dash and that hole in the ceiling." are the new cup-holder hooks.
I want them to improve the screen layout/design
I wonder how many new buyers of the 2022 NX will switch out those run flats??🤷♀️
But then what do you do if you get a flat? Lol
@@danielplainview4778 I am on my fifth Toyota with the first purchased in 1985. I have never used the spare tire. Lucky I guess.
You will probably be on the phone or listening to the radio or music so you might not hear it when driving…You might even have a spouse or kid/family friend with you chatting away so I doubt this will be a problem.
@@danielplainview4778😂😂😂
OK with the shifter but the run flat tires and without federal rebate for the price are what making me to uncheck this vehicle from the shopping list.
Can you guys be more specific on WHY? You don’t like flat run tires, I’m very interested to know the reasons
They make more road noise!
@@Motormouth... well that’s an easy fix. Crank the music up or let your wife talk to you to death all the way to your destination.
- Andrea
@@Motormouth... that's very surprising as this is a competitor to the Q5 and X3.
@@Motormouth... Hey Andrea. Do you think you guys will get a chance to review the 2022 Volvo XC60 in the near future?
I like the door latches but I don't care for the CVT...
the roof is no big deal.
I don't know about that 14" screen....it seems distracting.
With so many features it likely gives you all kinds of prompts to pay attention.
My car has some correction it offers me frequently...I'm waiting for it to ask if its being driven by a toddler.
So, the Lexus is better but u'd pick the Acura ??
The Lexus NX 350 is a great vehicle but in Canada it is very expensive compared to the RDX. For value the RDX wins! But, if you want a Hybrid or a PHEV, the RDX doesn't offer either.
Love everything about it......except the price for the top trim! A bit much there Lexus.
Awesome
How does NX 450h+ compare to Tesla Model Y in terms of drive, comfort and ownership experience? I rarely drive more than 50KM per day, and both of these cars would realistically keep me out of the gas station.
Lexus is better, smoother ride and quieter plus better built
Mark Levinson is not an option for NX Plug-in because of weight issue.
Sorry but much of the video was commenting on the NX in general and did not learn that much about the new hybrid tech.
Without the rebate in Canada it is going to be very interesting to see the sales figures. If it was me, it would be the RAV4 Prime all day, every day.
Even today?..
@@Shane-zx4ps With a 2 year wait, heck no. Otherwise it's the best plug in atm.
@@Jordan-ql8pv. I know the RAV prime is a brilliant vehicle, but the quality of the interior and sound proofing too in the Lexus Is second to none, but hey you will be happy with either of them
But Lexus NX is better than Rav 4 prime, better build and finish and is more premium.
@@Shane-zx4ps Yep this guy comparing Lexus to a Toyota rav 4 is like comparing a Mercedes to a corolla. Big difference even in ride quality and handling
Could Anyone tells me If RX 450 with come plugin in 2022 ?
Thanks !
Nobody ever asked for a budget Lexus. The REAL Lexus vehicles were near boutique builder quality. Now this?! WTF Toyota ?!
Not really sure what you're trying to say here Ron, as the vast majority of Lexus sales actually are just fancy Toyota models. (NX, RX and ES) I just wonder how this effort is any different from what they have been doing for a long time now?
Welcome to Toronto traffic !!! Where did you do ur shots ? 401,
We mostly stayed close to the airport in Mississauga but the quieter neighbourhood you see in the video when we were filming the exterior shots is called Humber Valley Village, very pretty. It was later in the day so it was expected we would hit a lot of traffic on a Friday afternoon.
The pricing on this is ridiculously high!
That’s just a modernized Prius shifter
Doesn’t it qualify for federal tax credits? I haven’t seen the $45K limit anywhere on the IRS website. Is this limit a proposal? Or it is already in effect?
They are talking about Canada
The start/stop button has been in that position across all Lexus for ages now. As soon as you sit in the vehicle it’s right in your view rather than having to search for it behind the steering wheel.
It's not snowing in that mega freezing place yet? Hope it's got good heating, great car of course, it's a toyota
I pre-ordered the NX 350 Turbo. Was that a right decision or should I go with the 350h Hybrid?
With the way gas prices are going, I rather go with the plug in.
@@Mrmanbirsandhu I changed my order to the 350h hybrid. Can't afford the plugin hybrid
I like it
LEXUS 👍👍
Can't manufactures leave the gear selector alone the old style worked Park reverse neutral drive . I am surprised at Toyota did this new selector
That’s the hybrid shifter Toyota has used since 2010
Yay you compared a car to Volvo.
Would buy this but would get rid of those Run Flat tires as they are crap. Had 4 Toyota's with them and they all sucked and wear fast
Panoramic sunroofs are awful. Who needs them?
Please bring back Night Life!

the shifter is literally the same thing as the shifter from all prius’ for about i don’t know OVER 10 YEARS. it’s really not hard at all and never fumbled shifting this style shifter. some of the complaints from zach seem very pointed and not for the logical reasons. and it’s run flats this.. run flats that, so annoying
