    I love neurosurgeons saved my life for sure. I got a "rare" ependymoma tumor at the age of 12. That was found because I had caused it to bleed as it was inside of my spine along with being in-between the vertebrae. It was woven around my spinal cord particularly my sciatic nerve. It was a risky procedure due to the odds of losing the movement in my legs, however, I had no choice as I was passing out and throwing up constantly as a result of the pain. The team ended up getting all the tumor out and though I had to relearn how to walk I would say a tremendous success other than some minor nerve damage. On a plus side I gave em my tumor to study since it was rare and my family didn't pay a thing so thats gnarly lol. Im 22 now and forever grateful for medical professionals.

    • @MrZane777

      @@punu3675 It sucked honestly. Have you ever woken up and your arm was just completely asleep and you couldn't move it like you know how to but you cant do it. It was really frustrating I knee I could walk but my body wouldn't do it its like there was some disconnect between my brain going "okay balance like this and take a step now" and my body wasn't getting the signal no matter how hard I thought about it. It genuinely not trying to be like sad or anything but spiraled me at 12 into a really really dark place because I was so upset with myself and the fact I couldn't help myself. Hopefully that kind of answers your questions, any others I'm here to answer!

    Inspiring, I'm an electrical engineering student but I always loved medicine and thought it wasn't for me, it all changed when I had covid, was hospitalized and I was treated poorly by the nurses and the second doctor that took care of my case, the way a white person wouldn't get treated, I was already bugged with that john oliver thing, it happens here in Brazil as well, but after my personal experience I decided I want to be a doctor and treat folks, especially those who overlooked, with dignity. Even before considering medicine I always loved watching neurosurgeries from this channel, from doctor farhad m limonadi, with lots of cool neurosurgery videos, and I'm thinking about following the neurosurgery path and as a black man myself, seeing you and doctor akwasi really inspires me and make me feel confident, this video spoke to me. RIght now, I'm studying for the test we have to take before applying to college, it would the brazillian equivalent to the MCAT. wish me luck.

      I think it’s important to remember everyone’s different, there’s no standard for a neurosurgeon’s lifestyle, there’s always steps you can take to have a more active or “better” family and home life - especially after residency. If you’re really that worried and not as passionate about neuro, perhaps it’s more ideal to look for a speciality that has a better work-life balance

    • @dominick6131

      Neurosurgery is not known to be a work life balance specialty. Expect to work 60+ hours a week. Lifestyle? Work. You need to love your work as neurosurgery is your life. House? Very big if you want but you will only have time to sleep in it. Wife and kids can enjoy the house.
      Family? The neurosurgeon i rotated with, his kids would visit him at work.
      I'm sure there are neurosurgeons with a more balanced life but it's not the norm

    Everyone is equally intelligent and capable of success. The problem is that life gets in the way. Bad parents, no parents, shitty friends, no friends, ultimately some of these disadvantages can be overcome if you take the brave step to recognize bad influences and set them aside. Science is hard and only through thousands of hours of study with no distractions can you develop an understanding of our universe so advanced that you can manipulate the world around you. Hopefully for the benefit of humanity but we know this is not always the case.

    “Black men in white coats” sounds like the coolest tv action medical series. The reality is so much cooler! I love that this is a thing, that medicine is getting more diverse in every way! We need more doctors who are visual minorities because healthcare has historically been designed for white men. People of colour can have higher rates of specific conditions, women in general but specifically women of colour have it even worse. More of this. More wonderful people from diverse backgrounds in medicine ❤

      Runescape Loots do you go online at all??? Man I can’t go on a video about kittens without people saying racist things. We don’t bring racism into things we simply point it out because it’s so prevalent.

    • @maggmaxxx
      @maggmaxxx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Runescape Loots the person said “it’s probably” racism. I can’t turn on my damn PS4 without having anxiety about being called or seeing a racist name. I had to deal with racial slurs at a rotation I went on. We call it out because we can’t jog, go to a bank, sleep in our homes without racial encounters. The simplest things you take for granted, oozes with racism for us. So ask yourself this “if it bothers me this much to hear about the possibility of racisms existence on a post about a black doctor in a field where they only make up about 5-6%, I wonder how much it bothers them to actually have to deal with this stuff everyday?” Don’t discount racisms presence in a country founded on it, in a medium that fosters racism via anonymity and never tell us to not call its possibility out. If this sounds too stern, don’t take it personal. Just hear and be better for the black family

    • @maggmaxxx
      @maggmaxxx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Felix man the school system is breeding racist idiots like a stupidity farm. We get it. You get to go through your day not thinking much about race. For us, it’s the exact opposite.
