  • Here's a soft shackle that's always worked well for me. Here is the link to the diamond knot. • How to tie a Globe Kno... Let me know in the comments if you know the real name to the "apple knot" I use.

    @ 1:05, fusing paracord is a serious job, if the work is jostled at all while cooling, the joint will fail; you should test it before proceeding.

    Hey just to let you know, love your videos. I tied some shackles with the diamond (lanyard knife knot) and they are great. Instead of a larkshead - cow hitch I tied a clove hitch in about the middle and it captures the two strands of the shackles and stays tighter when not under full tension.

    Eliminate the blue rope and just make a simple girth hitch with the end opposite the diamond knot. Done!

      Girth hitch good but you could also take the doubled over far end between the two strands under the diamond knot and then over the top of the diamond knot. Knot shure I’m explaining it right but you guys are smart. You’ll figure it out. 😊

    I like it. Considering it using tow different pieces, this could also possibly be done with a prussik, say for the blue cord?

    a simpler modification would be to make the "enclosing loop" a slip knot. Find midpoint of rope and place a slip knot with an opening the size of rope diameter; with the two free ends make your diamond knot. open the slip knot and place around the diamond knot and tighten the slip knot. this requires no tools - just the rope itself to make. would be applicable to "survival situation" ?

    It seems that shackle is only as strong as the fusing.

    The diamond knot link in the description shows how to tie the knot starting from a bight/loop, whereas in this video you are starting from the 2 ends?

    Do you have just a Diamond knot video? I found yours but i can’t remember what video I saw it on at the end of the video. Thank You Sir. I’m a disabled VET with a Brain Injury (Memory problems hugely). I can’t find your Diamond Knot. I’ve looked at others and yours is so simple but after not tying it for 2 days ZI forgot how to tie it. By the way Thank You for showing us all these knots. I really like the tie downs for parts in the back of the truck. I would like to know what knots work well with tree felling, I use to know them 25 years ago when we cut trees down. Thank You Sir

    Essentially you are putting force on the fused blue line. While what you want is for the force to be taken up by the orange line. Not to be used in climbing, not to be trusted with your life. Try a real soft shackle.

    You glued the 2 ends of blue paracord. How strong is this ?
    If it is dyneema/spectra it doesn’t glue

    • @ernestitoe
      @ernestitoe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He didn't glue it. He melted the ends in the flame and pushed them together while still hot, so they fused.

      @Ernie Lederman .... You have compromised the strength of the rope by melting the cord and trying to fuse the ends together .

    Interesting, but looks like there’s no way to adjust the size of your finished shackle/loop. To make my soft shackles adjustable, I make a loop just as you’ve done with your orange cord, but while my diamond knot is still very loose, I make a ranger bead at the end of a length of usually smaller, different colored paracord. While the ranger bead is still loose, I run the loop of the larger cord through center of IT, with the length of smaller paracord towards the loose diamond knot of the loop. Tighten up the ranger bead about halfway along the length of the larger paracord loop. Snip and singe the one end of ranger bead facing away from larger diamond knot. Now run the length of the smaller paracord through center of larger diamond knot then tighten IT up. With both knots now tight, slide ranger bead up to diamond knot as you pull the smaller paracord through larger diamond knot. I finish this off by adding a small loop via butterfly knot in the smaller paracord as close to the large diamond knot as I can make it. I can now wrap the shackle around various sized bundles, run the end of smaller paracord through large loop, double back and run it through butterfly loop, and tie off with simple overhand knot. I’m always looking for a better way to do things. Any ideas on how to make your soft shackle adjustable?

    If you're using rope anyways why wouldn't you just tie the item on? That way it's tight.
