    The world is bizarre, this is a person who makes honest, professional, and unique videos content. He has less than 1M Subs in 13 years. And there are some dudes out there who make videos to say nonsense such as "how to make $10000 in 10 minutes by doing nothing", and they gain Millions of views and subs. You're just the best and most unique content creator I love to watch regarding cameras and lenses. Thanks for all day's help, Kaleb.

    would love to see an episode on using broadcast glass for cinema some time, the idea of being able to do super fast crash zooms with the parfocal constant sharpness would be really interesting, and the wide zoom ranges would be really convenient for people who prefer few high quality lenses over many cheaper lenses.

    I have the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for my FX30, which works great. I also have the Viltrox 24mm f/1.8, which works perfectly with the A7iv and FX30. It seems the f/1.4 version is the one with problems. The 23mm f/1.8 has no focusing issues at all. In fact, very quick and accurate.
    That Sigma 18-55mm f/2.8 looks like a winner. And the Viltrox Cine lenses look great.
    Thanks for this video. It really helped me make some important decisions on lenses for my FX30.

      Hi, I love your work ! Don't you regret a full frame for your TH-cam head talk, especially wide shoot (for my channel i'm using a 20mm) ? I have an A7SIII, wich is great, but I've a trip this year and I may take a lot of photos and I'm bit afraid to be limited by the 12Mpx sensor. So I'm thinking about switching my A7SIII and A6400 for an FX30 + a dedicated photography camera. What's your opinion on that ? Thx !

    Thanks for the nice video and overview. I think the new Sony 11mm f1.8 is also worth mentioning at around USD 500. Great little and sharp auto-focussing lens, and is compatible with the focus breathing compensation in the FX30 (as is the much more expensive Sony 15mm f1.4 G). For video, I also really like the Sony 35mm f1.8.

    Caleb is always bringing the heat. I never knew about that Viltrox 13mm. That's an interesting one. I own 17-70 tamron and love it, and I own all 3 Sigma primes and equally love those as well. I can't believe how inexpensive they are considering the quality. Also, I really like your set and how you film your product shots. Top Tier work as always.

    • @ElMeach
      @ElMeach ปีที่แล้ว

      Man, I am between sigma 18-50 and tamron 17-70, do you think the tamron is the way to go? Has there been any time when you think it is too heavy or big?

    • @alvin5122
      @alvin5122 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ElMeach im a little late but I'm gonna get the tamron for the stablization. I'm gonna use it to replace my a6400's kitlens. i have a canon 70-200 L that i use for wildlife and having no stablization makes it barely usable for handheld video.
      So if you don't have IBIS get the tamron.If you're just doing photos, get the sigma since it's sharper all around.
      For weight, I prefer big lenses because the a6400's tiny. Usually I bring the my Canon 70-200 L, the kit lens, and a 25 and 35 manual meike lens out on shoots. It's okay for me since i have a backpack.

    Nice low budget options here.
    I'm studying all low budget options for my xt4 rig. I have a Mitakon 35mm .95 and my analog Pentax lenses + a very good Pentax zoom for APSC but I always come across tiny problems like small diameter, too compact or that extending barrel, all those could in the near future cause issues like the inability to mount a follow focus, or a matte box. So I think one needs to think about those points not to have to buy lenses twice because there is an issue down the line.

    Another line to consider is the Rokinon/Samyang Cine AF line. Kind of gives you the best of both worlds. The AF is great, and the focus pull on the lens is super smooth and long like a proper cine lens.

    Nice set of options! Great job on the video. I'm also partial to the Sigma 16mm f/1.4. Actually editing a video right now where I used it for photos at a local Japanese garden. 😄 Though, in my case on Canon EF-M. At least on EF-M the Viltrox autofocus trio (23,33, & 56) were fixed of autofocus issues through firmware as far as I could tell, though they don't work well in auto-exposure situations.

    There can be a bit of gear gatekeeping in photography/cinematography. Mostly just out of buyer's remorse that modern budget $500 lenses can compete so closely with lenses costing 10x more.
    Don't be afraid of budget lenses. They are often shockingly good. I've got an 85mm Rokinon cine that has absolutely no business being as tack sharp as it is.
    Get a budget wide angle and 50mm (or zoom) and you're off to the races.with next-level production value.

    I have the Tamron 17-70 on my FX30. I personally like the larger size, however it’s still a fairly small lens. It just looks a lot bigger when it’s side by side with the Sigma. I think the Tamron is worth it for the extra reach, especially if you shoot interviews frequently. 70mm at 2.8 gives a very nice look. Another lens worth considering is the Tamron 11-20mm 2.8. It’s a great compliment to the 17-70. And of course, there’s the Tamron 70-180, which I’d like to get in order to cover the full range.

    I have the FX30 the sigma trio 16,45,56 all work great. The Tamron 75-180 works great. However, focus breathing not supported. One of the Zoom features not supported...cant remember which. But the Digital Zoom works, I think it is the optical zoom that does not work but I would have to check.

    Was the firmware of all the Viltrox lenses the same? You said the ‘older’ lenses struggled with AF but I’m wondering if updating the firmware of the older lenses would bring the AF performance up to the newer 13mm level?

    Wow this was so informative, I would love to see a video like this for full frame Sony lenses. I also wanted to confirm that all of these lenses could be compatible with the a7iv when it's in super 35 mode right?

    Have you tested anything longer in zoom lenses? I really need something around 200, but cannot afford the Sony lenses and don’t have experience with many other affordable brands.

    Nice! Might have to pick up that 13mm Viltrox. What’s the top rail? The spacing is so funky, I’ve had a hard time finding the right nato rail that doesn’t require grinding

      It's a Falcam (Ulanzi) f22 5 position plate, you can get them on B&H now, Amazon has yet to carry them but the line is relatively new.

      I would love to see some AF tests with the Viltrox in video mode and the focus speed set to slow. Showing a person walking toward and away from the camera slowly. Most lenses I’ve seen from Viltrox, while they may keep the subject relatively in focus, show noticeable pulsing in the out of focus areas.

      @@antone9751 I have no issues with it. Bought it for 200€. It’s my main lens because is so sharp and has it’s own character. That scenario is not going to happen in real life. Autofocus is a tool. What makes it great on the Sony’s is that it is reliable, not that is perfect. You still need to be on top of things. Even with the best lenses, you need shortcuts to disengage It, to change it’s mode or speed etc. and need to be ready to go manually any time. Watch Philip Bloom talk about it. Of course it’s not going to be as good as a 1400€ GM lens.

    hey..how much better in lower light is the Sigma 18-50mm f2,8 compared to a Sony 18-105mm f4? Will it make a HUGE difference or just a bit? worth buying it If I already own the 18-105mm f4? I have the Sigma 16mm and 30mm f1.4 but I would prefer NOT to change lenses in the middle of longer recording (like a wedding ceremony). I would love to own some cinema lenses! It would make my FX30 look great!

    Why oh why did you not talk about the Tamron 11-20? LOL I'm in trying to find information about that lens for video especially on the FX 30 which is what I'm shooting with. I'm really intrigued by a lot of the lenses you mentioned today. The big problem I'm having with the Sony aps-c line is that there isn't many options for any wide-angle zoom that is quite enough for vlogging with an aperture low enough for indoors. The 11 to 20 seems to be really the only option these days, but nobody's talking about it for video or fx30. As intriguing as all of these lenses are and that they have great prices. As far as I can see there's nothing any wider than that 16 mm sigma. And I have the 16-55 Sony which is a brilliant lens but not quite wide enough for many vlogging situations.
