@GregB-uc1ky Like a lot of things it was right place, right time...I saw a lot of the great bands back then and consider myself fortunate but I've read posts by people who lived in cities where they were able to attend all day stadium shows featuring a lot of top name bands all on one ticket that made me wish that I had lived there but getting to be around in what I'd call the "golden era" was definitely worth the price of admission and that price was really low compared to today not to mention so much more accessible...still got the ticket stubs as well...

Fortunate indeed. Just curious here, can you tell me was it known at the time that Janice was leaving Big Brother? Was the concert tour presented as a farewell tour? Thanks!

I’m jealous! I was born in 62 and Thank God my parents were into Janis and all the greats of the time so I was fortunate to get huge doses of phenomenal music from the flower child hippie movement! I still can’t get enough!❤

Spanish Ned saying thank you fellas so much. Your take is exactly how I feel about it too. Like, the band is winding it up ending the song but that sweet heartbroken baby is still pouring out her heart. My 2nd favorite Janis song, after Kozmic Blues.
This song hits differently when you realize it's the final song on her final album. Especially when she says "we may not be here tomorrow".

    • @CANDOKNOWHOW

@@dc91jvI have to agree.. it’s definitely a song where she gives it all she’s got and one of my all time favorites of hers, where I can’t help but come back to it again and again.
It really takes a lot to get that place emotionally and just let go of it all, most especially while performing a song in front of the whole world. Many just can’t do it, but Janis did it consistently and consistently hit the mark.
I can’t even pretend when she turns it loose like that, hits me right in the gut every time.

Nice one guys! I was only 12 when she was last in Toronto in 1970 for the Festival Express tour with the Dead, the Band and others. Sadly, she was gone shortly thereafter. Also missed the Doors and Jimi Hendrix a year earlier for the same reason, too young. I've been blessed to see many great bands over the years, but regret that I never saw Janis, Jimi, the Doors or the Allmans with Duane and Berry. RIP all!

As you said, definitely a Blues song with rock band backing. Janis again changed the lyrics significantly here. It is interesting to compare Howard Tate's original cover of this song, which is slower-paced and reflective, with Janis's almost desperate plea here... both are great; both are Blues.

    Great reaction,
I love Janis! While she and Amy W have different styles, I agree that there are similarities. They were both wonderfully talented and sensitive artists that gave us so much during their short lives. They both seemed to be strong and fragile at the same time - longing for love.

The last song on this album was Buried alive in the Blues. She never got to record the lyrics. The band, Full Tilt Boogie, recorded the music without lyrics for the final track. This was her best band by far and I would love to hear a remastered version of this album. I will always wonder what that last track would have sounded like with her… there are no recordings in existence.
