I would highly suggest that you rewatch Work Me Lord Stockholm, 1969.

Unfortunately, Janis had OD'd prior to going on, then went on to put on an amazing/out of this dimension performance. But she was upset with herself and the subpar vocals. She thought it was the worst she ever did.
I love everything about Janis, there's not one song I ever skip. Woodstock was her true masterpiece and a testament of how great she is.

Loved Janis, she always gave it her all. She left it all on stage, so much soul and emotion in her performances. She was emotionally drained after performing live. Many have tried, but don't have the same feel and emotion that Janis did. I agree, Beth Hart is a great singer and I like her a lot, probably the best today, when compared to Janis but, there can only be one Janis Joplin.

Please react to the live version of Woman across the river by Freddie King. Blues is the foundation for all of this western music we listen to. Janis was freaked out about the size of the crowd and got pretty ripped, so she wasn't in much shape to play until this 2am or so, middle of the night set, which ended up blowing out her voice towards the end. But she still gave it her all, like she always did, and even on a challenging day her performances blow so many others away.

Thanks I hadn't hear this song before. BTW Woodstock was 3 days long and rain and traffic issues delayed many bands performance times so they ended up playing late into the evening. The backup band for her at Woodstock was not her usual band but the musicians were: Terry Clements: tenor saxophone; Cornelius "Snooky" Flowers: baritone saxophone; Luis Gasca: trumpet; John Till: guitar; Richard Kermode: keyboards; Brad Campbell: bass; Maury Baker: drums. I found this info at the website for Bethel Woods a music venue located on the site of the original Woodstock festival (Bethel, New York is where the concert was actually held after the town of Woodstock backed out of giving them a concert permit) according to the website this performance was on Sunday morning, August 17, 1969 at 2:30-3:30 am. For more info and to see the list of all the other songs she sang that night see: www.bethelwoodscenter.org/blog/janis-joplin

Woodstock was three days long. I've heard the day she was scheduled, she showed up expecting to go on earlier in the day, but at the last minute they moved her to this late spot. She ended up having several hours of sitting around to do, and she ended up filling it with a whole lotta drinking. She still was able to do this, though. May have been better without the fatigue and so much booze, but who else could have done this under those circumstances?

Can you imagine Jimi Hendrix dies Sep 18th and then the very next month Janis Joplin Oct 4th then the following July 3 Jim Morrison, to me that’s just unimaginable to this day.
