I'm getting ready to put mine in the oven. I grew up in a Polish and Ukrainian family and your channel has been a Godsend! I used to love your show growing up too lol. Dziękuję
Love the conversations during the cooking demonstration. Reminds me so much of being in my grandmothers' kitchens. Food Network does not know the 'jewel' that they are missing. Thanks so much for sharing your love of cooking!
I’m Japanese/Polish girl living in Japan for my whole life:) This Christmas I wanted to make Makowiec.. that makes me feel so nostalgic! this video was the best teacher. Thank you so much! And Merry 2021 Christmas for all:)
Thank you Jenny for helping us to carry on our family traditions! It means more to me than you could ever imagine. God Bless YOU! Both my adult kids and my grandchildren will all be able to experience what we grew up with.
I think I can survive just using Jenny’s recipes, nothing else, and this would be a beautiful life! Thank you, Jenny, for your recipes, love them all! 🌹🌷
You know most people knew how to cook and bake before the industrial revolution! They didn't even have to go to any college for that. Your recipes are so easy to follow and thank you so very much for helping me get started again. My german oma used to make this and bread and spaetzle and damfnudel and all types of wonderful food right on her wood burning stove and oven right before our eyes. We can do this people. Thank you Jenny! I appreciate your recipes and videos so much. They are also very fun to watch.
my German Oma made this every Christmas, poppyseed and walnut. I made 2 of each today, I like to send as gifts, and this is closest to my Oma's bread ever. I do use jarred poppyseed filling but add some walnuts, chopped dried apple, 2 tbsp orange marmalade and golden raisins. The walnut filling the same ingredients but 2 egg whites beaten to stiff peaks and folded in, just what Oma did. I think they hold the walnuts filling together. Thanks Jenny!
I'm a guy well over 50 ... :-) from a child's eye perspective ... This was the poppy seed roll that made my aunt May the most awesome cook in the world. All other cooks are in the shadow of her greatness! We would beg our mom to take us over to her house often for this treat and also her poppy seed pies and kolaches. She had many flavors for many types of pies and pastries. The poppy seed roll was my favorite. Thank you for bringing back those wonderful childhood memories!
I haven’t had this bread since I was a little girl. My Polish grandparents died in 90s. Never thought I’d taste this again. Thank you so much it was delicious ❤️🎄
Thank you for bringing me a piece of my Tatto back! I have tears streaming down my cheeks in fond memories of him. Thank you so much. You have a lovely voice and I am truly blessed for having watched this and finding your channel. Hugs from Halifax
Canadian Navy Wife, I cry through the majority of her Polish recipes. Reminds me of growing up in Poland. Wish I could afford to go back home for a visit. No family left to go see. All gone, here in the United States and in Poland.
Jenny, you are absolutely adorable! I love all your demonstration . It is so much fun to watch you! I am 85 years ( young!) but never to old to learn something new ! Love Baka Ana💐
I would love to have heard the whole song! Polish is a beautiful sounding language! My husband was polish. His grandmother was shy but I loved to hear her speak polish, and she made the most amazing pirogies. You are a wonderful teacher- I enjoyed your video very much! Can’t wait to make it.
I agree, I am polish by association and I too love hearing the polish spoken language! My guy’s mother used to hypnotize me when she spoke! Rest In Peace, I miss her borscht and wish I could replay her cooking techniques. Thank you Jenny for making it look easy!🇵🇱
Hi JENNY, so nice to see you make this old favorite of mine. My late mother used to make this a lot, but she always used the wet poppyseed filling that comes in a jar in the grocery store. It's in the grocery store in the pie filling section. She also used it to make " Homentashen" for the Jewish Holiday of Purim. I have also bought this in the Russian grocery store. I love it so much. They roll the dough very thin so the end result has many, many layers. It also used to make me sleepy after I ate it. LOL
Thank you Jenny. I grew up in Poland (now live in the U.S.) and made it for Wigilia this year. You're a great and funny teacher, and makowiec came out great (I wish I could post a picture). I hope you continue making these videos and I hope you are well.
My mom made similar rolls using other fillings, usually stewed prunes, apricot butter, or ground walnuts. No matter how picky we were as kids there was something that everybody liked.
Just made this recipe, only used lekvar instead of poppy seeds. Came out delicious. Used my own homemade lekvar. What a difference. Great dough recipe. So was your baked filled donuts. Made them more than once ♥️Thanks for 2 great recipes.♥️
Hello- Hungarian gal here-grew up with the same bread and never knew how to make it. All of the old ones are gone now so, thank you so much for the excellent teaching so the tradition carries on.
I made this bread for my aunt who is of Polish descent. I pronounced it as you did in the video. She started to cry. I we watched your video and she heard you sing in Polish, again, the tears. She also loves you.❤
This was so sweet - thank you for sharing with me. Please tell your aunt I'm proud to be Polish and she's the first person who appreciated my Polish singing! 🇵🇱🎵
I'm so glad to find this recipe.... Mom Mom was Hungarian & Czech and every Christmas she would make this. She would also add (not a lot) golden raisins.
My grandmother made poppy seed rolls! She lived in PA. I didn't know it when I was younger but that's about the only place I can get it any more is the holiday season in PA. I am so glad to find this recipe! I will making it in South Alabama from now on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm definately trying this. That's triple the size of one I occasionally buy at the Polish deli for a ridiculous price. My Aunt in Poland made this 25 yrs ago. She made several and I ate an entire one myself because it's my favourite delicacy.
I too must confess that I have eaten a whole one; but it's been many years as no one carries this in my town and I am not about to pay $25 for one to be shipped (yes, I'm cheap, but I'm Polish).
my great grandmother used to get poppy seed in brick form from a cintact in New York City. My job as a small boy was use an old fashioned coffee grinder and grind and grind. We were Hungarian and the smells from the kitchen were wonderful
I am polish....loved your song....and makowiec looks delicious...today I am going to make one as it is our tradition and kutia:-)..thanks 👍 Merry Christmas 🎄
Jenny, I'm of Slavic descent and I know that I would enjoy a delicious poppy seed roll. That poppy seed roll looks so yummy! I really enjoyed Eastern European goodies!
This is very nice of you to share this with everyone. I find that the poppyseeds need to be very well rinsed -- I tend to rinse them about 3 times before doing anything with them and it's amazing the amount of dirt that comes out.
I have looked for this recipe for years !!! When I was a little girl my sisters husbands mother would send us this for Christmas and I couldn’t get enough of it . Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
I made this today. It was really nice and the dough was very easy to work with which is great. I’ll also use this dough to make other fillings. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe Jenny
I had never cooked with poppy seeds until a friend told me of a poppy seed cake her mom used to make. So I finally found a recipe that sounded like her mom's and made the cake. WOW can I just say...best cake ever. Can't wait to try this.
Thanks so much Jenny.......I wasn't able to spend time with my grandmother, or my mom to see how this was made. You've reconnected me to those dear ones who have passed and for that I am greatful.......this and the breads in your other videos are exactly like they use to make.........forever in your debt for taking your time to post this.........
Can't wait to try this, Jenny !! Am absolutely sure it's gonna be amazing 🙌 Where are you Jenny, we miss your lovely presence and delicious cooking 🙃 Wish you love ❤️
I’ve been searching for a good poppyseed cake recipe! 😋 the one I knew had raisins in the filling, they were mashed or ground up. Don’t know for sure but I’m going to have to try this!
My great-grandmother used to make poppyseed roll, similar to yours. I do not remember the icing though. She and her husband immigrated in the early 1900's from Austria. They lived in eastern Austria near the border of Hungary. I've never tried to make this before. You've inspired me! Thank you for sharing...
I love poppyseed cake. When I was young, my mom grew up in a Polish area and she loved this bread, I lived near Gladstone Bakery on Milwaukee Ave in Chicago and they made a really good version. I love your cooking skills.
