The only thing that quiets my Glasser viola is a homemade f-hole cover. It's lightly padded, reversible, machine washable, covers the top of my viola from end to end, and straps on with Velcro. Also, combined with a caterpillar mute it's decorative. I might go deaf without it. Glasser is LOUD.

Yes I love this mute! It’s a nice balance between the regular rubber practice mute and the heavy metal ones. Heavy enough to dampen the sound for quiet areas while staying in place on the bridge but the rubber exterior protects your violin better.

Mute is really super, works, no problem at night playing... What made/make me feariuos, why on good sake they have used so unusual screws?? Triangle? Which is not possible to buy as one piece? Or, if used, why such a mini screwdriver part of delivery? Thank you for video.

Practicing excessively with the mute deteriorates technique, because it muffles your mistakes and makes you less aware natural tone. Is this true?

I also use mute to practice violin. However, I do not like using mute at all. It is tough to practice on G string because the mute basically suppresses the echo/vibration inside the violin, so whenever I play G string, I am dissatisfied with the sound. More importantly, I cannot practice double stop when it includes G string because the sounds (frequency) change. It may become malpractice to keep practicing with mute since your ears may be imprecise at detecting violin notes. Just my opinion.

Absolutely! I think if you practice with a practice mute all the time, it will certainly be a disadvantage to you playing. Definitely want to get the maximum sound possible without the mute :) Thanks for watching!

Hi! I bought a practice mute very similar to this one. It doesn't sit directly on the bridge like an orchestra mute, rather it sits like ~1.5 cm above the bridge. Is this normal do you think?

Hi there! The practice mute should have a snug fit on the bridge. You don’t want to have it loose in any way or else it can fall off and damage your instrument when playing.

Is this quiet enough to use in an apartment do you think?
