You said the cost of living is absurd but you want more social services also. You see more social services require more money. More money comes from more taxes. More taxes mean property owners and businesses have to pay more taxes that causes the cost of living to go up. Rent food stuff like that. Its a viscous circle. More of the same thing that caused the problem in the first place only makes things worse.

Lifting sacks of one hundred pounds of rice, or beans for 8 hours, or breaking concrete for 8 hours, or loading 20-40 pound boxes non-stopping for 8 hours, a lot of people will quit the job, or get fired, because most people cannot handle a heavy duty job, or a fast pace job. And the critic's will say, why didn't you go to college? But even college graduates can find themselves homeless.
In the 60s and 70s there was no homeless crisis, because the cost of living was cheap.

Many are forced into the streets and into poverty when they cannot pay high rents. When there is unaffordable cost of living, homelessness and crime become real problems and cities become slowly ruined.

There's no reason why a 60+ year old dominant caste woman shouldn't have 300k liquid net worth to pay off a bedroom bathroom suite for herself with shared kitchen and laundry. America created far too many opportunities for her, especially having lived through the greatest feminist wave in the history of the world. This is yet another perfect example of how few people are truly homeless. Most typically just have either some mental illness or drug addiction, which is not homelessness! It becomes just a slap in the face of all the truly homeless people who simply can't afford a bedroom bathroom suite simply because no one will hire them. That's not the story for this lady.
