    What the 95% do:
    1) Buy the dump. Trying to find the lows instead of looking for a place to short.
    2) Short the pump. Trying to the find the highs instead of looking for a place to buy.
    3) Adding to losing positions.
    4) Not adding to winning positions.
    5) Increase position size when losing trades and decrease size when winning trades.
    6) Taking profits because market will take away their profits
    7) Increasing stoploss because market will reverse
    8) Starting trading with high sizes to get the dopamine from gambling and getting huge rewards.
    What I do, why? Because I aspire to be a consistent winner:
    1) Look for a place to buy in a mark up phase and a place to sell in a mark down phase.
    2) Add to winning positions
    3) Reduce size when I'm losing and increase size when I'm winning.
    4) Take profits systematically and hoping to get more profits. And always looking to decrease my risk.
    5) Trade with lower size to get my mentality and trading better and then increase size gradually over a number of trades and samples.
    6) Waiting like a lion for my trade. Not trading every market movement. And if I fail, I try again, and again, and again. Does a lion give up because he fails one time? No.
    Thank you TraderTom.

      Uhm no, buy the dump is the best because it is the original of the new (up) move. This is the trap that catches all the retail traders, but you need correct tools to spot institutional buying and not from liquidity providers 😂

    Your videos really opened my eyes on how i see trading, especially when you said at a talk ' Most people who trade are smart, but that's exactly why most are losing, thinking smart and logic is exactly what doesn't work ' something along those lines. Since then i threw everything i knew out the window and focused on taking positions where no one dares to, and to much better sucess, so i want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom

    After reading the article, I am really fascinated how I can almost prove the points made, in my daily trading.
    In regular life, I'm a pessimist and I always expect the worst (can't get dissapointed expecting the worst, right?). Example: Have to drive by car? Certainly I'll end up wrapping it around a tree. Applying for a job? Probably get rejected anyways. Yet, when it comes to trading I'm thinking: This is a reasonable trade, surely it will make some profit. To me, this proves that there is actually a different part of my brain taking control. Otherwise, why have I suddenly become an optimist?
    I'm also guilty of taking partial profits and even stating to others: "This satisfies the inner neaderthaler and now I can let the rest of the position run". As an exercise, I will try to do the opposite and take part of the position off when the trade is going against me (no follow through bar after breakout bar, etc.).
    So in essence, we have to always try to maximize the pain while trading and go towards elevating the pain instead of trying to decrease it.

    Great video. Would be nice to get some more insights on how Tom is actually allocating his risk while trading the naked price action chart for some average trading day. For me, this seems to be a crucially important aspect apart from all the psychological aspects / mindset. It doesn't really matter how mentally strong you are if you don't even know if you will risk 1%, 5% or even 10% of your capital on a day not knowing if you are going to place 1, 5 or 10 orders.

    • @LennieClausen_dk
      @LennieClausen_dk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Buddy, it has been posted over and over in the Telegram group. IF you don't know how much you want to risk per trade. REALLY don't trade.

    • @heeweegoo
      @heeweegoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LennieClausen_dk I said it would be nice to know how TOM is calculating his risk while trading in the way he does. Like I said risking a fixed amount of 300 Euros a Point or what so ever is meaning less without knowing what amount of capital that is based on in percentage terms while also not knowing the amount of entries placed per day at such risk. Meaning this would leave me without having a clue about what ever % amount of risk per entry without knowing if there will be 100 orders placed per day or perhaps just one. Let’s assume I want to want to follow his signals on Telegram and enter at 1% risk per trade and he would lose 30 entries in a row I would be down -30% for such day. I hope this examples makes it clear.

    • @floydsmithjr7999
      @floydsmithjr7999 ปีที่แล้ว

      My strategy, after listening to
      “You’ve got to let the trade work”
      from so called gurus and gotten screwed royally, is if I enter a trade and it starts going against me before It enters a comfort zone where I can adjust my stop, exit immediately.
      If the next candle after entry doesn’t close solidly in your direction that’s the first red flag warning.
      That doesn’t mean it was a bad entry, it just isn’t panning out the way you suspected it would.
      Just because you’re willing to lose 5 or 10 percent, doesn’t mean you have to. That’s just me. I hate taking losses but I accept them as part of the game. If you like being a masochist and torturing yourself, go for it. In my experience if anything goes 1 tick below your entry there’s going to be a problem. 1 good trade can erase 10 “paper cuts”.

    @Trader Tom, I have read your article and I have got a question that:
    For scalping is it bad to have fixed take profits and Stoplosses, say you are a scalper and you are targeting a certain number of points and if you get them you are out. Similarly if the trade goes against you, you are quickly out at as well. Fast in and fast out but doing it multiple times a day.
    Would that still count as a loser's mentality?

      Hello - first of all, it's great to see you take Tom's content and try to improve it and make it your own. I see pros and cons. I think I see more pros Tom's way and more cons in your way. But if it is better for you just do it.
      We love what you did thinking out of the box but. Let's do some math. We have about 36k people on the channel. If everyone just asked us about their own "hacks" once per year. We would have 3.000 questions per month and 100 questions per day. If I had to answer your question as fully as I really think it deserves I should on an avg. a day spend 500-1000 minutes 7 days per week answering something out of the scope of the channel. We think it great you think out of the box but you got to own your own "hacks".
      We really hope you appreciate that we are the first traders and need to make our daily income from trading. We both spend several hours per day helping other people (free). But there is just so much we can do.
      Btw feel free to post your thoughts. They might help others and I assure you every single post here is read. And some of them discussed with Tom.

    Hi Tom. I am very grateful to come across your videos and the simple methods one should learn and be aware of while trading. Thank you so much for helping everyone who wants to learn with clear mindset. I wanted to know if you have shared videos about the STOP LOSS strategies you follow. I have heard terms such as Tight SL in this video. Please help.

    I agree with you fully, before I was soley focused on whatever I make or lose money at the end of the day, now looking back on it, it was more luck than anything else. Now at the end of the day, I count how many trade I did was following my own rules vs let my mental pitfalls take over, even if by the end of day I was losing but if I was following my rules than that day would be a success. Same for if by the end of the day I was earning but I traded base on fomo, chasing, revenge etc. than I would consider that day a failure.

    Buy and read Tom's, The Best Loser Wins. It changed my trading philosophy and performance completely. Tools play only 1% but Psychology, 99%. If you want to be world class in this game, let Tom's philosophy guide you. Warning ⚠️ this is not for the faint of heart. As Charles Bukowski puts it, "If you are going to try, go all the way! Otherwise, don't even start."

    I was elated when my copy came - earlier than expected as well. This is a great book! I love the story of the first time Tom added-on to a trade. The next day after reading this, I entered a trade as the emini was breaking out below supp - the next bar closed at its low, so I added on. It felt great! I am learning to trade and my expectations are that of a learner and it feels great to do something that I know I should be doing. Love your work Tom Hougaard!

    The last trade I took, 2 days ago, the 5 minute turned, the 1, the 15, even the 1 hour turned, finally a stubborn resistance was broken, I entered. The very next 1 minute candle, a devestatating red dagger that blew right past my stop, I exited immediately with an unacceptable loss. It was the right exit because the next 3 candles dropped like a 10 pound stone in a pond. About an hour later it managed to retrace back up to break even but failed at resistance again. If I had held on I most likely wouldn’t have survived the price action and taken a devestating loss.
    The point is, relative to this video, I didn’t step back far enough, looking at the macro. The chart looked good, but it was an option expiration Friday coupled with a few lackluster earnings reports, the sentiment was not on my side.
    It’s so important to take EVERYTHING into account. My first instinct prebell was logout and take a 3 day weekend. I didn’t and I paid for it.
    The most important lesson for me from this trade, coupled with recent past experience, is
    “Don’t trade on Friday’s”
    mostly because my brain is winding down from the week and not functioning properly. Know thyself.
    Remember:
    The market isn’t going to do what you want it to do, the market is going to do what it wants to do, and rationality and logic are not in its game plan.
    My favorite statement from anyone in this business is from Warren Buffett:
    Rule #1 - Don’t lose
    money.
    Rule #2 - Follow rule # 1.

    I have win% of 47,56, and average win is USD 159 while average loss is USD -187. How can I improve? What am I doing wrong?
    Maybe because I'm moving the stop-loss up, which gets taken out before it can move into profits?
    Should I stop moving the stop-loss?
    And I definitely need to let winners ride.

    Amazing content, I came across you by accident Tom, and thank god I did. There is only word that sums you up my friend. You have 'INTEGRITY' . !! Have read you book 'cover to cover' every single word is a golden nugget'. If that does not show people how to join the ranks of the 10% of traders who make money, I don't think anything will. God bless you my friend, you have a good heart and the only person in the trading arena not ripping people off selling useless courses. The crazy thing is ALL your stuff is 100% FREE. I mean if that does not motivate anyone to get of their back side to learn the skill of trading , then they don't deserve to be a success in the first place.

    I went back to the 15 minute chart as the 5 minute was making me over trade and sucking me into a lot of fake moves. The 15 minute sums up the 5 minute noise well and provides quality over quantity and without the headache and eye strain. Ppl who trade the 5 minute or 1 minute are going to lose a lot of years off their life. And develop black eye sockets.

    • @LennieClausen_dk
      @LennieClausen_dk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that 15 min has less noise. But then again you could trade 1 h with even less noise. I think easy and every person should look into what's best for them to trade.

    Recently found out about you wish i found you sooner. Watching someone share information without trying to sell a course feels refreshing. It always puzzled me why successful traders need to sell information or sell courses because if they focusing on selling courses when are they trading themselves and I think the truth is they aren't. Much easier getting money from people who want to learn than risking it in the market.

      It is not a secret which broker we use. But you need to do your own homework. If I knew I would hold a trade over several months I would use futures on my broker. You pay higher spreads but you don't pay overnight commissions. But you got to be aware of rollover.
