@@Greenhouse_Co. It's an old school trick that adds an extra layer to insulate between the cold air and your skin. Keeps the core temp up a little higher than it otherwise would be. Plus oiling up in front of the competition is an intimidation tactic

Got to go watch NCAAs in Stillwater back in 2021. Conner Mantz won it, BYU is such a great team. Everyone on the team was super happy and supportive for him
Great video. Felt like I was there running through the weeds and celebrating a huge win. Thank you for this! Congrats to Ed and the whole XCountry team at BYU. Go Cougs!
Amazing how all 7 were packed together in the top 50 most the race. To be able to see each other and key off each other is so beneficial. That’s is an awesome strategy if can be done.
Are you going to make more sprint content when the indoor season is coming or are you focusing more on the long distance content? As a sprinter I really miss the sprinting content that you made earlier I think it was very good
Random thought: For as religious as BYU appears to be from the outside, I don't often hear the coaches or athletes mention it in their interviews. Besides Clayton Young on his TH-cam channel, which is a great watch.
I believe it's because many people, particularly of their faith, don't wear their religion on their shirt sleeves though it is very important to them. People's actions in their lives are far more important than saying words to create an impression. If you look at many BYU athletes and others who have faith, from a variety of schools, they are letting their light shine bright by the way they live their lives.
This has to be one of the most important years for Eyestone. Olympic trials, Paris, XC and so on. Legendary coach!
I actually am impressed he's still there :)
I love how this is just like any old cross country meet, the running back and forth. Even though it’s the national championships!
the only athletic event where the fans get a workout as well...
I would be so shook if I saw my competition rubbing olive oil all over each other wtf
Why do they do that? So random haha

You can tell Ed is a really smart guy. He holds his camera horizontally while filming a video. Be like Ed.
Pretty crazy to get this out so quick
Very cool how they have their own phrases that motivate them

Oiling up pre-race is absolutely WILD
Glad know one twisted an ankle with all that bushwhacking! Ed Eyestone is a legend and national running treasure!

“Run with gratitude in your heart” is going to be mantra every day from here on out.
19:29 Guy next to Eyestone completely oblivious...and snippy.
Such a drip. 😂
Awesome race by BYU. That guy at the end harassing Coach Eyetone for videoing "Do you have to? It's going to be on TH-cam." Totally oblivious.
yea and imagine trusting the quality of an xc stream lol
19:30 is classic. That old fool of a woman shakes her head at the coach of the team that's winning the meet, cheering for his athletes.
BYU FOR THE WIN, FOR ALL THE MARBLES... 2024 XC MEN"S AND WOMEN'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONS... ROAR
This is incredible, I am tearing up watching it.
Awesome! Would love to see Coach Taylor's version as well.
wild that the people working the meet don’t immediately recognize Eyestone
They took oil up to a whole new meaning
That's the way to race and win as a team - Great job guys! Great job coach!

Ed: Fruit oil and drop cloths.

Conner Mantz and Clayton Young need to recruit some of these grads to their team so that the US can podium in marathon in 2028!
Congratulations to the BYU Mens team.... Go-Cougs..... woot-woot

Damn coach Eyestone still has it in his legs

why the olive oil??
Heat retention
The oil helps to create a thin barrier between the skin and the cold air. Kinda like petroleum jelly. Helps to insulate.
This is in books from the early 1970s
