    I love how in all this current bourbon madness all the Wild Turkey products have stayed around the same price points and continue to maintain a high level of quality. Russell's Reserve 10, Wild Turkey 101, and Rare Breed are all amazing pours.

      Up in Canuck land we pay probably double for the 30 whiskeys, weller, ECSB, 1792, all about $65 - $70 dollars for us, but the turkey 101 is still $34! and the best IMO,non Canadian bang for your buck. Thanks for the video

      @@bigusdickus6503 honestly I just stumbled on Wild Turkey because Buffalo Trace was out of stock. Now I have two favorite distilleries! And if both were somehow out I'd gladly grab a Woodford Reserve or Maker's Mark. There are so many good affordable bourbons out there for under $35. I've seen man childs throw a fit in a liquor store because they didn't have what they wanted..Blanton's lol. When they are out of Eagle Rare 10 I grab a Russell's Reserve 10 or Green Spot. No fuss about it. I'm still getting a great bottle.

      Guess you have not seen the crazy markup on masters keep one + Russell's 13 ? Seen them going for anywhere between $300.00 - $500.00

    • @DongHands84
      @DongHands84 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@gregmartin1757 I haven't but if bourbon goes over $100 for me I'll default to Yellow Spot, Red Spot, Redbreast 12 Cask Strength, Talisker 10, or Talisker 18. Those to me are better pours and always fairly priced. Honestly one reason I got into bourbon is I needed affordable daily drinkers. Single Pot Still Irish whiskey and Talisker 10/18 add up quick lol.

    Fun show as always, Kurt. The David Nichols Reserve (DNR) is a high-rye recipe; they also have the more "storied" wheated recipe version (in the white label), but I agree with you that the DNR is a heckuva fine bourbon for the price. Indeed, it's basically a batched, higher-proof version of the Evan Williams Single Barrel, both being the same classic Heaven Hill mashbill.

    Excellent list. I generally keep a bottle of that Evan Williams on hand, and I agree, some runs are different than others, but they never disappoint. That Russell's, now that is something else. I discovered that at tasting we had years ago with some friends at the same time I discovered my first Henry McKenna 10 year old. The HM is way hard to find around here, but I always keep a bottle of Russell's in the cabinet. Oh, and for the Weller SR, I definitely have that on my under $30 list, both because it is the Bourbon that got me started in all this, and until the last few months was not at all allocated in my area (central OK). Great Video Thanks for sharing your thoughts on $30 Bourbon. I have not yet tried any of the one's in this video looking forward to pick a couple up.
    So for my good $30 bourbon would be Knob Creek, Makers Mark, Old Grand Dad 100 Bonded and Elijah Craig Bourbon.

    Haven't had the Nicholson - will have to look for that, but I LOVE your other picks! These are all usually on my whiskey table. The Russell's especially makes an amazing Old Fashioned! I have a beautiful crystal decanter my daughter got me several years ago, it's always filled with Woodford. These are a bit more expensive in TN, we have serious sin taxes, but still very reasonable. $50 is about my limit, other than occasionally indulging in a Blanton's when I can find it (not a chaser, it just has a serious sentimental value in my life). Thanks for a great video.

    1792 and Russell's are good choices, I've enjoyed them both. Generally I seem to favor stuff under $30 (casual drink) or over $40 (special drink--I just got myself some Four Roses Small Batch Select for Christmas, excellent) so I don't have anything to suggest for this price range, but I remember my $30 bourbon used to be Elmer T. Lee. Like the song says, things ain't what they used to be.

    As with wine, a "good" bourbon is one you like. It can be inexpensive bottom-shelf, or it can be middle to high end. If you like it, it's good. :) Woodford is one of our favorites and still one of my favorite distilleries to visit.

    Good video! I would add the Evan Williams 100-proof Bottled in Bond, because I drink no bourbon or Tennessee Whiskey less than 90-proof. Jack Daniels (Tennessee Whiskey) also makes a 100-proof Bottled in Bond whiskey now that is very good. I haven’t drank JD since they went from 90 to 86-proof in the 80’s. And now they’re 80-proof…same as Jim Beam. If I want watered down whiskey I’ll water it down myself. But the 100-proof JD is very smooth, very good.

    I'm enjoying these videos and learning a lot. Bourbon is really expensive in New Zealand. A bottle of 1792 is around $85 NZD which is approximately $55 USD. Woodford Reserve is usually $62 NZD (~$40 USD) and would be a special occasion drink for me. Jim Beam for around $45 NZ (~$30 US) is probably the biggest seller here. Or Jack Daniel's.

    I enjoy the EW SiB. I found that it likes to open up after having the bottle opened for a few weeks or so. For a lower proof bourbon, it really carries some nice depth. I am partial to OGD 114 at the price point as well. Pretty spicy, but after that first taste it really settles in. And if I want Turkey, I honestly prefer 101 over RR10 which I find a bit odd tasting with a funk I have not been able to pinpoint whereas 101 I believe drinks much closer to Rare Breed (though RB is a deeper and more viscous pour) and at $20 it’s awfully hard to beat.

      @@slbdrinks Dickel is definitively divisive. The "bourbon" does not have the mineral taste some complain about with the standard expression. As for Redwood Empire, everything I've tried is tasty. Their main expressions are blends of sourced whiskey and their own juice, although they recently released a couple BIBs. The Emerald Giant rye is good, but the Lost Monarch bourbon/rye blend is where you should start.

    Coopers Craft 100 is $30 and is currently the best kept secret in bourbon. It is downright luxurious. Brown Foreman distillate aged in "chiseled and heavily charred" barrels. Its got the classic syrupy character of Old Forester products but with a big blast of sweet oakiness. Pour this one for a guest blind and they will think you brought something expensive out of your stash. I almost regret spreading the word but its just too damn good to keep a secret.
