MissJessa Marie I know this is from like a year ago but I am the same way, *however* got a decent job offer when I was youn--well desperate really. I lasted a week because when people weren't interested I got too much anxiety to talk to them. Lmao sales is THE WORST
This is why I could NEVER be in sales! I can't FORCE something on someone... especially when I don't believe it. It's like working at the mall and going up to people when they're shopping. I don't like it when people come up to try to get me to buy shit when I'm minding my own business, so why would I want to do it to other people? Ehhh something about it irks me.
I was a bank tell when I was 19 too! The training process definitely needed to be longer than two weeks. I really enjoyed the job though, but the stress was real
I was a teller once. I loved my job and the beginning. The manager was awesome! Yes there was one teller who wouldn't do squat but I hardly worked with her. Fast forward about a year later, and the manger became the president of the credit union. The person they chose to take his place had no business putting in for the job. She wasn't qualified, and was a huge bitch to everyone. I asked her if she wouldn't mind if I left an hour early on a non busy Friday (mind you it was a week in advanced). The other teller I would be working with that day didn't care. I had to drive 4 hours that day to meet up with my husband and I didn't want to be driving in the dark. The manager told me she would have to talk to someone higher up, the old ceo/president hadn't left yet. Her retiring day/final day was the end of the month. I came the next day and the manger in such a bitchy attitude said "you can't leave early." She then made me choose between work and my husband. I chose my husband!
I work retail and I'm a decent employee, but they harp on me to boost my sales in different ways (which mine are where they want them to be, but they want us to aim higher ugh) and some of these techniques are insane. We are expected to sample something on every customer who walks in and now training videos are telling us to pick up bags for them and put the products we think they should buy based on what they liked. I can't do that for people. I don't come from a lot of money and if some retail employee is putting a bunch of stuff I don't need into my bag, then I'm gone. I know the money I can spend, I don't need someone telling me what I need. So I skirt around that and let the customers buy what they want.
I'm with you there. I hate sales and sales targets. I dont do those. I'd rather serve burgers, with all due respect. I aint no good. My sales techniques are: "hi, you need this?" "No!". "Ok, have a nice day!" :D
+MrTheLionKing1986 lmaoooooooooooo. Thank you for making me laugh today lol. I saw the movie about miracles and heaven and it made me ball my eyes out since my gramma died a few weeks ago. Once the movie was over I balled my eyes out again...so ty for that laugh, I really needed that lol
I feel your pain Jessi. I'm a teller now in a low income area too. Half the customers are coming in for social security checks and they hate ATMS. It's 2016 so more banks are adding EATMS and with customers being older and refusing change there's more complaints about the lines and the machines lol.
it sucks that in so many jobs there's an insane pressure to make sales even if you're not actually helping the customer. it's awesome that you were honest and really helped that lady out and didn't take advantage
Wow, your story is almost exactly my story as a bank teller (minus the voicemail calls haha, very clever of you). Luckily for me though, my supervisor and branch manager were super awesome managers. They recognized that while I was good at everything else, sales was just not in my DNA. Eventually they wound up helping me move to a different department (a promotion, in fact) more suited to my skills. While I still currently work in the banking industry, I disagree with the tactics most banks use in order to boost their numbers and the pressure they put on their employees because of it. Coincidentally, Wells Fargo is currently in some hot heat for a referral/sales goal scandal, and I am loving every bit of it since I can so relate to the employee's (not that I ever committed fraud, just that I can relate to the pressure lol). Thanks for reading.
Lol this was funny. I'm glad you got a better position 👍. I interviewed for a teller position @ a bank last week & today was offered the Head Teller position, I really hope I like it, fingers crossed.
Oh my god this couldn't have come at a better time! Literally every single thing you said I can 100% relate to. I've been a teller for nearly 5 months and I have no idea what on earth I'm selling still 😂
I was working in sales until 3 weeks ago. My sales technique is honesty and find the best product for a person's need, which is what you did there. My statistics were great, though, the best in the company; people are thankful if you do your best for them. You are really entertaining.
lmao jessi i just quit my job at a bank 2 weeks ago, some guy slipped a note to me and my heart just dropped i was like ohhh lawd baby messiah im getting robbed riigh naw. naw he was asking me on a date i literally took his number never told him yes or no to the date and had to tect him later and tell him dude ...you do not pick up chicks at a bank by sliding notes. dumb ass
What made you finally quit? I'm at the end of 4 weeks and they are already like "ok, we need to see more improvement in the next 2 weeks. Then we need to get you to sell"...🙄 like woah!! Hold up! I'm still in the learning curve damn! I was even told in training school to give it 6 months until I'm fully knowledgeable & comfortable making transactions. Now your goal for me is already selling loans and sh??
It's a pleasure to see you back on a regular schedule. I enjoy your story time videos a great deal. Hey, if you dreamed of being a teller, that's great. I used to know some folks who's dream job was waiting tables -- they loved it and it was their career of choice. If you can find a way to get somebody to pay you to do something you like doing, you'll never work a day in your life. I've told people for years, "Don't hate me because I turned my hobby into a paycheck."
I can kind of relate! I used to do telemarketing sales and it was terrible! People were rude (I would be too) and there was a lot of pressure to get sales even though it's almost impossible when you're calling people after 5 to sell them shit they don't want
They had a withdrawal slip, which means they weren't actually trying to rob the bank. I imagine she gave them the amount of money that was on the withdrawal slip.
Oh Em Gee! You just described my year and a half as "Personal Banker" aka Bank Teller. I was 20 years old when I started and I loved everything about it except the sales quota we had to meet. Glad you shared... I feel ya, girl!
OMG I loathe sales TOO! it always feels like trickery! I don't even like it when i'm clothing shopping and reps are like "hey can i help you and its 50% off when you spend $200 or more and it's our last day for the 4 for $10 panties sale and our store closing clearance..." Like ughhhh can i live?!?
my sixth-grade history teacher told us a story about how when she was a bank teller, the bank just lost like $100,000 as in it just vanished into thin air so she spent a whole day and a half at the bank counting money and looking for the $100,000 and she found it in plain sight and then she quit because the whole ordeal stressed her out so much
When I was little, I always was fascinated with being a cashier. Always thought it be the best job. Worked as a cashier at tsc and accidentally gave a customer my copy of receipt so I almost got fired cuz of it. My dream job of being a cashier was shattered. I didn't stay there long after...
I had an internship at an insurance agency in order to receive my certificate in banking, like you said I felt unappreciated all they had me doing was sales calls/telemarketing but I wanted to learn about the business! I had a packet given to me with so many numbers I ended up getting frustrated and just half dialed the number so it rang a couple of times until the operator said it was dialed wrong and id pretend to leave voicemails. If not id pray nobody answered lol
i honestly get distracted from intently listening to the story because of how insanely gorgeous Jessi is, how flawless her skin looks and how pretty her hair is UGH soooooo pretty
I started to read your comment and for some random reason I started to think of Gossip Girl (I'm rewatching it) and then I look up and saw your name lmaoo
haha! thats only my name because im starting to make videos in a few weeks and i want it to be a fun storytime kind of channel and i thought because id be telling stories "gossip girl" was an appropriate name haha
Working in a bank always seemed kinda glamorous kinda like a fancy air hostess...then when I got the job, I hated it. I didn't understand anything and somehow I got a promotion and a desk that had a wall behind me so I would just do a couple of loan settlements a day and then proceed to write letters to friends, make lists and open new accounts for friends and family. I lasted just over a year...I really don't know how I wasn't fired.
Sometimes I have to watch this because it's everything I'm dealing with and no one at my job experiences this so I have no one to relate to or vent to, I've never felt so alone at a job. But this is funny but seriously, thank you for making this
Thank you for being so great, my bf and i broke up last night. I broke up with him because i felt i deserved better and its still fresh, i havent changed any pictures but because of you and your advice ive realized that i dont deserve trash and i shouldnt cry for something that can be so easily replaced. Your videos make me laugh so much and i just needed to watch some 😊
Every time I watch your videos I get super distracted wondering if that floral thing in the corner is a padded floral toilet seat. Just me? probably. lolol
My sister is a branch manager of a bank. She was a branch manager of one bank when she lived in Illinois and then she moved to Iowa for her husband's job and she started working for another bank in a lower position but still as a manager. She makes more money, works less hours and has less duties now but hates her job. She loved her job in Illinois where she did more and was paid less. It was because she loved who she worked with, the bank itself and the customers. But she, overall, loves the banking industry. She understands finances and all of that and she never went to college and got horrible grades in high school. She helped me get out of debt and learn how to be able to save money when I was living paycheck to paycheck. I hate sales and could never do anything like that but for some people it works. I'm so much smarter than my sister too, so it has nothing to do with intelligence, I guess if it clicks, it clicks. It likely has more to do with your interest than understanding.
"I'm so much smarter than my sister too" wow, that's a nice thing to say. Sounds like she's actually more intelligent than you. 😂 Going to college doesn't necessarily make you an intelligent person, honey.
+muchdoge sowow it wasn't meant to be an insult. My sister and I are best friends and even she will tell you that I'm smarter than her. She comes to me for help on all kinds of things. I really wasn't trying to make it sound like I think I'm superior to my sister, I was simply trying to say that banking isn't for everyone and that you don't have to have a huge iq to work in that field because Jessie was saying she wasn't smart enough to do it.
I'm literally going through so much stress with my final year of university and just wanna say your story time videos are bringing me back to normality! You as a person are just brilliant! one funny fucker! So thank you for that :)
that's the reason I quit my door knocker job. Suddenly they started to pressure about sales like as if people in their houses wanted to buy anything from the annoying door knockers so I was out.
Ha ha ha I was a bank teller for Bank of America for 2 years then moved on to 2 other banks for another year before getting the hell out for the same reason. I worked in the hood and felt bad trying to make sales to old ghetto ppl on SSI. I was too honest, the bank hated me. 😂
Omg the phone calling reminds me of a job I had. And if they didn't pick up They made us leave voicemails in both English and Spanish 🙅🏽and three years later I still remember the voicemail I had to leave and the phone number I had to leave for them to call back. The WORST thing was leaving a voicemail on one of those house phones that play it on speaker😩 u can hear urself back when ur leaving the voicemail. That shit messed me up so much 🤦🏽♀️
Used to work in a clothing store and I was always stuck with the cashier job but honestly I could care less because that meant I didn't have to talk to people and try to sell them things or like...manipulate them into buying things. And I had an excuse for never reaching my quota. ahaha being a cashier is pretty great.
I was a bank teller when I was 19, too. They called us tellers - no fancy names for us. Sales was the absolute worst part (aside from having to deal with people all damn day), and I sucked at it. I eventually took an "on call floater" position while I was in school and I didn't have sales goals, which was pretty sweet. Especially when they started making tellers call people, which they didn't do when I started. Dodged that bullet. I learned quickly that any job involving sales was simply not my thang.
You think you're the worst bank teller? One time a customer was withdrawing 2,800 and I only gave them 1,800. I didn't realize till I balanced at the end of the night and had no idea why I was 1,000 over. Luckily the guy came in the next day and we gave him the 1,000. I got written up tho 😩
Heck I started training over 3 weeks ago and was SO OVERWHELMED and flustered from critical people watching over my shoulder constantly and one time while working at the drive thru I had a lady send cash through to deposit and I completed the transaction perfectly and quickly and nonchalantly stuck the money in an envelope and shipped it right back!!!! 😂😂😂 She was like "...I was depositing this" and I was horrified at myself LOL! Thankfully nobody saw me do that that I'm aware of. I felt so stupid hahahaha I wasn't even paying attention. That's my story lol! Almost happened again while being supervised and she stopped me in time LOL
I can't believe the guy didn't count his money right away! Missing $1000 and didn't come back till the next day?! I ALWAYS count my money right away when I make a withdrawal. If I'm at the counter inside, I watch them count it and then do it again myself in front of them. I've already caught being shorted money, but since they saw me counting it, I was able to get the right amount right away. Now that the banks are closed inside due to Coronavirus, I always check it before I leave the property, just in case.
GIRL I FEEL YOU ON SO MANY LEVELS I was a teller for about 6 months??? They didn't enforce the sales so much but i still absolutely hated every second of it. in college i worked at a call center and we had to call people asking for donations to the University. The worst part was the "student supervisor" would listen to your phone calls and tell you what you did wrong after every call. NO THANK YOU. after about 2 months i just didn't show up one day..
Girl I completely understand not selling something that will hurt the person! I worked at a movie theater when I was 18, and we were supposed to upswell popcorn to get people to buy larger sizes. One time we were even having a contest to see who could upsell the most, but this 400lb women came in and ordered a small. I didn't want to literally kill her and I just let her get the small and gave up trying to win 😅
I work at a department store, and I have to get two credit card applications a week, and I hate it. I hate asking people if they want to apply because I know out credit card sucks. I rarely ever make my credit goal.
Thats so weird when I was a child I always told everyone I wanted to be a cashier when I was older, I even had like a proper cashiers till to play with!
I used to work at a salon/spa and they would make us call people out of the blue like that. If it had been longer than 2 months since their last appointment, we were supposed to call and ask if we could reschedule them/why they didn't reschedule. OHMYLAWWWD. I can't even count how many times I was screamed at, chewed out, or hung up on. It was the absolute worst, and I would take FOREVER in the bathroom just to waste a few extra minutes that I didn't have to be on the phone, lol. I think everyone has had at least one nightmare job before.
The way you explain things are hilarious. I was a bank teller which is crazy stressful, through pregnancy. They pushed and pushed for us to sell things and it honestly was so stressful. We didnt care - didnt listen because making a relationship is so more important than selling things. Our bank closed in December because it was such a mess. I am currently on maternity leave and wont be going back.
i could never do sales calls, i get major anxiety when i have to make a phone call, i have to rehearse what i have to say before i call, and thats even when im calling a family member. One time i was calling my sons pediatrician cause i wanted to make an appointment and they didnt answer so i for some reason decided to leave a voicemail ( i usually hang up) and i started off good and then i stuttered and it went down hill from there,i panicked and hung up MIDSENTENCE! this happened like 3 years ago. and it still haunts me till this day!
giirrllllll I get it!!!! I was a bank teller last year and I loved it. I loved handling the money and everything BUT I DON'T SELL!!! needless to say, I was fired two months later cuz of sales lmfaooooooo
I worked for a corporate bank as a teller. I left that job after 5 yrs because of the sales expectations. I now work for a small town bank where they don't want you to sell! I am in heaven
"They said dream big, I said dream Walmart" lmao! You kill me 😂😂🙌
I can NEVER be a sales representative, I would be like "hey would you be interested in thi...no? Okay bye, have a good day!"
LMFAOOOOO
MissJessa Marie Same! I hate selling stuff. It really stresses me out

i work at tjmaxx and i hate selling those tjx credit cards and rewards cards at the checkout

Every time I watch your videos I get super distracted wondering if that floral thing in the corner is a padded floral toilet seat. Just me? probably. lolol
+MovieTrollop Hahaha it's a decorative 'J' ;)
+TunesbyJoey Oh thank god. I was going to say! How did I miss the story behind hanging a toilet seat on your wall?! XD
Haha there would've definitely been an explanation behind that.
+Jaaz Terrien same
I'm actually in love with your makeup, your face is always on point girl!
"I could just close the blinds" Omg I died😂😂😂🙌🏼
I really wanted to focus on his story but man, your makeup is so flawless. F-L-A-W-L-E-S-S!
I'm literally going through so much stress with my final year of university and just wanna say your story time videos are bringing me back to normality! You as a person are just brilliant! one funny fucker! So thank you for that :)
makeup on point! omg youre gorgeous
"people actually let you touch their money" 'yes' XDDDD
I respect you so much for telling that lady that the card probably wasn't the best choice for her.👏
I work in retail and I'm not good with selling either. I feel so akward being like "Hey, you should buy this." I hate it.
YOU ARE MY FAVOURITE STORY TIME TH-camR 💚
You tell the best stories, I could listen to them all day! Keep up the good work girl!
Jessi: I WANT TO BE A CASHIER!!!
Squidward: *steps out of boat thing* take my job plez Neptune I'm beggin ya
I'm a teller and I literally am so bad at referrals. this made me so happy
I know how you feel about sales, Jessi. Don't feel bad. I hate that shit too.
that's the reason I quit my door knocker job. Suddenly they started to pressure about sales like as if people in their houses wanted to buy anything from the annoying door knockers so I was out.
I absolutely hate selling shitty products too... I think it's so ridiculous and if you are an honest person it's really hard too
Ha ha ha I was a bank teller for Bank of America for 2 years then moved on to 2 other banks for another year before getting the hell out for the same reason.
That shit messed me up so much 🤦🏽♀️
You always make me laugh and smile when nobody else can and I am so grateful for that and I love you to the moon and back 💚💚💚
I used to love playing the cashier when I was a kid. I loved bagging the little fake groceries. You're not alone! :D
im a bank teller..... funniest youtube video ever. love it
Used to work in a clothing store and I was always stuck with the cashier job but honestly I could care less because that meant I didn't have to talk to people and try to sell them things or like...manipulate them into buying things. And I had an excuse for never reaching my quota. ahaha being a cashier is pretty great.
Your storytimes give me life ❤️
I was a bank teller when I was 19, too.
You think selling 15 to 30% interest rate credit cards is bad, try selling Payday or title loans
that shit was too funny. the beer was a nice touch lol.
Dancer for Yeshua omg lol are u still working there? I start in 2 weeks I’m so nervous
@@DancerforYeshua that's totally something I would have done! 🤣🤣
GIRL I FEEL YOU ON SO MANY LEVELS
I was a teller for about 6 months??? They didn't enforce the sales so much but i still absolutely hated every second of it.
in college i worked at a call center and we had to call people asking for donations to the University. The worst part was the "student supervisor" would listen to your phone calls and tell you what you did wrong after every call. NO THANK YOU. after about 2 months i just didn't show up one day..
Yeah, fuck that...
You make my life 10000x better
New drinking game: any time Jessi says "literally" take a drink
I swear you're Jennifer Lawrence 😂😂😂
I always wanted to be a cashier when I was younger too 😂 but then I got a job as a cashier and after 2 years I'm starting to hate it lmao
You might be the worst bank teller but you're the best story teller 💕
Oooh good one!
(4 years later, lol)
Lmaooooo I worked at a bank and was a CSR I would hide in bathroom too 😭😭😭😭😭
Im dead
I never dreamed of being in charge of money. I always knew that job would be too stressful. -__-
I worked for a corporate bank as a teller. I left that job after 5 yrs because of the sales expectations. I now work for a small town bank where they don't want you to sell! I am in heaven
omg im rewatching all these and idk if you'll see this but I LOVE YOUR HAIR THIS COLOUR!!!
lmfao! please dont pick up! Please don't pick up ..ohhh nooooooo lol
