    TOEFL Speaking - 7 Tips for a High Score
    I scored 27 in TOEFL Speaking and I tell you my 7 top tips for a high score. The TOEFL Speaking section is a challenge, therefore you need the right strategy. If you follow these tips, you have all you need to get a high score in TOEFL Speaking - quickly and efficiently! Oh, I will also tell you where I messed up...

    TOEFL SPEAKING
    In TOEFL Speaking you will have to provide answers for four different speaking tasks. Usually, the speaking tasks will be about topics that you encounter in a university setting. First, you read the question that you must answer, after that you have a limited amount of time to think about how you want to answer this question, and then you need to answer it by speaking into the microphone of your computer. If you are familiar with the tasks in TOEFL Speaking and if you have the right strategy, you have everything you need to get a high score in TOEFL Speaking.
    HOW TO WORK WITH THIS VIDEO
    1. Watch the video and make sure you understand everything.
    2. Download the summary.
    3. Use the summary for your TOEFL preparation.
    FYI
    The examples I use in the video and in the summary are made up by me.
    1) USE A TEMPLATE
    You should use a template for TOEFL Speaking. A template is a life-saver for several reasons. First, if you memorize a speaking template you do not have to think about what to say in the TOEFL test. This is a huge help especially because you will be under pressure in TOEFL Speaking. Having a template in your mind will support you in this challenging situation! Second, memorizing a Speaking template ensures that you will use linking words in TOEFL Speaking which will help you get a high TOEFL score. Third, using a template helps you structure what you are saying.
    2) KNOW THE TASK TYPES
    In TOEFL Speaking there are four different Speaking tasks. Before you take the TOEFL test you must know what these tasks are about. You do not have the time to figure that out in the test, so make sure you are well-prepared for the TOEFL Speaking tasks. Also, prepare the vocabulary for these tasks before the TOEFL test.
    3) MANAGE YOUR TIME
    To get a high score in TOEFL Speaking you need the right time management. You only have a certain amount of time to prepare what you want to say and to speak. This was the big mistake I made in my TOEFL test. In TOEFL Speaking I went way too much into detail in each of the speaking tasks. As a result, I had to speed up enormously because I got under time pressure and I had to skip some information. Therefore, keep it short and concise: include everything that is necessary but not more.
    4) BE CONCISE
    In TOEFL Speaking you must express everything you say in a very concise way for two reasons. First, you do not have time for more. Second, you will not get points if you are not concise. If you want a high score in TOEFL Speaking everything you say must be relevant to the question asked. Focus on the relevant information and present it in a concise way.
    5) SPEAK LOUD ENOUGH
    In TOEFL Speaking ETS evaluates how good your spoken English is. For a high TOEFL Speaking score they must understand what you are saying. Therefore, speak clearly and loud. You must give ETS the possibility to understand you. My tip for you: Try to speak a little bit louder than you would normally do. This way you will make sure that you are loud enough so that ETS can understand you.
    6) TAKE GOOD NOTES
    You should take notes in TOEFL Speaking so that you do not forget what you want to say. It may happen that you have a great idea when preparing your answer, and when you want to speak you cannot remember it anymore. That is why you should take notes! In the TOEFL Speaking section you do not have much time. Therefore, only write down the most important keywords.
    7) PRACTICE SPEAKING
    Guys you must practice speaking before taking the TOEFL test. This is so important! Practicing speaking at home before the TOEFL helped me a lot because I simulated the situation I would encounter in the TOEFL and this made me less nervous.

    Hey Juva, i wanted to ask you about the speaking tasks. So, usually for the policy change it is best to summarize it briefly and then comment on the student's oppinion or we summarize it briefly only if it is specifically stated in the directions? Because, for example it might be to discuss only the oppinion of the student, in this case do we include a brief summary of the policy change or no?

    • @juva
      @juva  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Alex, that's an excellent question! Usually, you will need to talk about both the policy change and the student's opinion. I can hardly imagine that you will get a question that excludes the policy change. However, of course, if the question asked you explicitly only about the student's opinion, you should only talk about that, but again I can hardly imagine this will happen. But even in this case you would need to say what the policy change is, probably in a sentence, because you need to relate the student's opinion to this change. Hope this helps :)

    Hi Juva,
    I wish I would have seen this video earlier..
    I scored yesterday 29 both on the reading and the listening part with the help of your templates.
    Essay was a breeze aswell.
    And I am confident I scored high.
    But completely blew it on the speaking.
    So bummed.
    I needed a 26 but even though speaking English on a daily basis I just ended up stammering and mumbling unintelligible stuff.
    Oh my gosh, i was so nervous and confused.
    And not sure whether the next time I would perform that much better…

    • @juva
      @juva  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Johanna, first of all congratulations on your scores! They are amazing, you can be so proud of yourself 😀.
      I would recommend this: Wait until you receive your Speaking score and try not to worry about it. Maybe you managed to get the score you need. If you scored below 26, using Speaking Templates and practicing with them at home is a great idea. They provide you with sentence starters, the correct structures, and a broad range of vocabulary. If you have these templates in your head when you take the TOEFL, you will be more confident and you will know how to start your sentences. This makes it so much easier to deliver a great answer. I hope this helps!

      You can go wherever you like during the break. So yes, you can definitely warm up your voice which is a good idea. I'd also recommend drinking some water during the break to stay fit for the rest of the test.

    Hi juva , how are you ? Hope you also fine , i miss you so much, really there is question in my mind ,after you got high score in toefl test you faced any a person you didn't understand what he says or you suffered confused? or after toefl you understand everything in English and every native speakers without need to translate. oh i have an one question more hhhh in the reading section there is listening part , the voice in this part,it is complex or clear ?i mean it's so fast that i can't take a note or understand. you know we are not a native speaker so i think it is hard to take a note with fastly listening.
    my questions look like the newspaper is so long 😁😁

      @juva  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marwa, I'm fine thanks :). Hope you are fine too! Generally I don't have problems understanding people and I think the TOEFL helped in this sense because especially during the Listening section you need to understand a lot in order to answer the questions correctly. But of course sometimes when people talk really fast or have an accent I'm not used to, it may happen that I don't get a word. That's totally normal since we are not native speakers. I don't know what you mean: In the reading section of the TOEFL there is no listening part. Are you talking about the listening section? :)

    • @juva
      @juva  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marwakhateeb3721 Ok, now I understand :). That's correct, there is a listening part in task 1 of TOEFL Writing. The listening parts are always a challenge because the speakers are native speakers who speak as they normally do. This can sometimes be a bit fast for us. But of course you will be able to take notes. Just write down the most important keywords you need to remember what the speaker said. You will have enough time for that.

    Hi Juva! Thank you for all these tips! I would like to ask a question for the speaking session: from your point of view, do you think it's better to give a complete answer (including all the information and all the parts of a speaking template), or to give a more complex but maybe not complete answer? Because I'm used to speak quite fast, so it's quite natural for me to speak, but at the same time I would not usually use complex words and grammar. Sometimes I use them too, but it's rare, also because at the end of the day, it's not something I need in the everyday life. So I'm quite afraid for the speaking session, because I don't know if I should focus on covering the entire template, going fast but with less complex grammar/words, or if I should focus on using complex grammar/complex words, but with the danger of not completing the templates and going out of time while I try to answer to the tasks.

    • @juva
      @juva  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so glad you like it 😀. You don't need to cover the entire template, but you must cover all important points so that your answer is complete. So it does not matter if you shorten the template as long as you mention everything that needs to be included.
