Hi 👋 focus fist on gradually bring the heal towards the bottom, without any lift at the hip. Plus use constant communication, to check for any discomfort. Hope this helps.
That hip/rectus femoris stretch is really hard to do with bigger men or heavy set people. I love to do it but sometimes I really struggle to lift the leg.

Maybe try from side lying position and when in place turn your body to help move the leg into a stretch.
