    Great lesson. I didn’t know you could count both length and shortness in responder’s hand

    Just found your channel and Loving the tutorials already. While I understand the 1NT force over the 2/1 call for the hand @ 20:16 , I think the robot's poor bid prevented getting to the slam contract. Regardless of lead, this hand makes small slam. That diamond suit is the key to sluffing those trash clubs and u have 1 heart loser. the key would be to look at your hand and his opening bid to determine how North has 12+ points. His open shows 5+ spades, and with us holding the KQJ, he must have the A. that leaves 8 cards that should total at least 8 points. I may be way off, but I think the hand makes small slam.

    In 12:14 what should be the correct bid on north?

    Great video. what happens if responder bids 1NT and opener prefers to play it? can' it be 'semi-forcing'?

    • @bridgelesson
      @bridgelesson  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can play it as semi-forcing based on partnership agreement. :-)

    • @bridgelesson

      Some people play 1NT as semi-forcing, but even then we're only passing with our worst balanced hands :).

    Hi, at 20:26 why not game forcing? 11 HCP and a fit in spades. Can't you count the 2 extra points like hand at 10:42 for a total of 13? Am I mistaken, or did you miscount?

    • @bridgelesson
      @bridgelesson  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. This hand is not quite enough for a game forcing bid. It's very close, but Jxx of Hearts isn't necessarily a "full value holding". I would count this as 12 pts max. Definitely very close to game forcing, but I want to protect myself against the times where partner is opening light.

    • @bridgelesson

      The earlier hand is much stronger.

    24:09 in this auction the robot bids 3h, and the robot communicates "3s supp + 10-12 hcp' . yet later on with the control bids the robot never showed 1st control yet responder has a void in h. In the whole auction he didn;'t show 1st control in h (3h COULD have been a 1st control, IMHO SHOULD be). This whole auction doesn't make sense to me, pls explain. (NB: with open hands, it turns out to be a 50% slam - K/s needs to be on)

    • @bridgelesson
      @bridgelesson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we play with the robots, we are forced to play their system always. So, while this may not be the standard auction you are used to, we can always mouse over the robots bids to determine what they are trying to tell us.

    • @bridgelesson
      @bridgelesson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The robot plays transfers after 2NT rebids (not standard). I didn't like this auction either, but sometimes your robot partner is going to make things difficult for you, just like a real game :-)

    • @bridgelesson
      @bridgelesson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      3H would never and should never be 1st round control on this auction because we have not established a fit. In fact, in the robot's system, 3H is the bid that shows this fit. Remember, we will not be making control bids unless we have an established fit and are in a game forcing auction. So, no matter what system you agree to play, 3H on this auction would never be control.

    What is 13 and more points? I am new to bridge and not familiar with all these terms. Anyone knows a good source to learn about these?

    I doubt you'll see this but I would never play this hand like you suggest (I don't play 2/1). 1 Spade response with 2 Clubs when you have a fit and 8 losers. 3 Spades is the bid; inviting (rule of 18)! Any other bid gives too much information to the opponents.

    • @bridgelesson
      @bridgelesson  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is not how we play the modern game John. The benefits to this system far outweigh any information that we may be sharing with the opponents.

      That’s fine John. You can play anyway you like. The majority of the best players in the world play some version of this system.

      My conclusion of watching some of the best players in the world is; their bidding is questionable but their play is remarkable!
