Whenever I see these types videos, I often wonder if it is an attempt to discourage over population.

We come down a couple of times year to visit my in-laws, and we love coming to Mount Dora for a nice cup of coffee at One Flight Up. It's a great little town.

How are the schools? Especially with kids who need help with IEP. Whats age group? My wife and I moved to Lakeland Florida in 2022 but we miss the small town feel and country life feel.

Hi! I can only speak to our experience with the schools and we have family member that requires an IEP and so far the public school system on the elementary level has been great. Thanks for asking!

I prefer Hollywood Beach Florida and Hallandale Beach Florida more than Daytona beach, they just got way more things to do restaurants, bars, lounges and a good nightlife. ☀️

if you read old documents from the Civil and Seminole Wars and early explorers they describe Florida as hell on earth because of the heat, humidity, snakes , insects and alligators.

They just put in a kayak launch as well. Unfortunately it's incorrectly reverse of typical launches, so you can't launch canoes, only smaller kayaks that can turn within the 8 feet of space. But you can just drag your canoe or at the boat ramp as everyone has done for years. You also forgot to mention there is still the awful smell that comes from the water treatment plant regularly now. Partly because of code violations that they are trying to get taken care of now, but also just because of the type of green system they just upgraded. It smells like rotten eggs or raw sewage often, especially at night and on the East side of town near the flyover, hwy 441, 1st street. There is not enough parking downtown weekends, but that's a good thing, as they are already pushing down wooded areas to build more condos and subdivisions, so no parking lots means less land is added to the slash and pave trend. I love the little shops downtown, Palm Island Boardwalk, the lighthouse, pineapple point, and the incredible Inn. However, it's getting more crowded at the parks now, so a quiet walk with the wife has turned into more of a stroll thru Disney visitor traffic instead. You can't swim anywhere safely, and ski at your own risk, I never go to the lake without seeing an alligator. They are everywhere here. But that's Florida, snakes, alligators, hurricanes, jellyfish, sharks, scorpions, etc, but for enduring that you get ocean waves and fiery sunsets, beautiful beaches( mostly filled with lots of people now as well though, so not sure how positive or negative that is), boating, hiking, fishing, wildlife to see (including black bears, bobcats, eagles, osprey, red-tail hawks, all kinds of cranes and herons, etc, and you get canoing, kayaking, camping, beautiful state parks with gorgeous springs, scuba diving, snorkeling, etc etc. So it's a trade off like any place else. You just have to know what you'd rather live with. Oh, and another big thing for us as we like to ride bikes, the infrastructure for biking around outside of downtown is pretty much non-existent, maybe a few new spots around the flyover, but elsewhere is awful. You just have to know the backways to stay out of traffic. I owned an electric bike shop here and experienced that first hand for years. The town is very central to a lot of places and I truly love that Mt. Dora has no big chain commercial restaurants or dept stores downtown. So that's my input... Maybe I overdid it a little...

Utilities are a definite drag. Water and Electric are much higher in Mount Dora than what we had in NC, VA, and NY.

    Very grateful for this video.
First time viewing your channel this morning.
The time has come for me to move closer to aging parents who live in Clermont.
They will be buying a property for investment & write off, and I will pay them monthly rent in addition to taking care of them a few times a week.
I currently live in Upstate NY in a very modest, little Cape cottage.
After looking at listings in and around Clermont for the last week, my gut reaction is not good about moving to that area.
As I scour the listings I see no village squares; just all new, or relatively new faux Mediterranean boxes w/ that go against every fiber of my being.
I couldn't help but wonder; "what do these builders have against front porches!" 😂
The parents are grumbling about the distance of a half hour, but I know that if I cave to their wish of living in that area
with an absolute dearth of community, I'll regret it.
Mount Dora is the *only* area that appealed right off the bat.
The small, family owned businesses, the water, the culture and beautiful town!
I saw a bungalow on 8th street that's already pending, that looked well cared for & at a good price point.
My mother's first comment was "We'd like to invest in something new or about 3 years old made of block..."
I do understand concrete being wise in a weather area, but just not one of those new, cheap builds.
In your expert opinion; would you say that one of the new "Lenoir" type builds are a better investment than an older, vintage type home?
I'm gearing up & doing my homework here to make a strong case.
Please forgive the length of the comment, but I wanted to lay out the situation to see if this is something I should speak with you further about & start looking.
Thank you for your time & I'm off to watch more of your content.
    Doing my research!

This is wonderful inside story on the lesser known details of central FL! Im from upstate NY (6yrs now) been selling chattel here a few years. Yes thought that spray smells like beef stew lol but I looked it up and not natural. It is a chemical spray. Maybe partially responsible for the brain damage of the infamous Florida man lol but better than the alternative of no pest control. Part of the reason I relocated was because everyone is so neighborly & takes time to socialize but as a northeasterner there are days I'd prefer to be respectfully ignored haha. Keep up the fun & informative videos 👌

Ive lived in central Florida my entire life. Please feel free to come visit. But please do not move here. The things she is describing are minor annoyances. Every year during the summer we are bombarded with massive hurricanes. Every season they become more severe. Some of these storms are borderline civilization enders.

Best time to visit Mount Dora is after Thanksgiving and December The town at night is Beautifully decorated with Christmas lights , the LakeSide Historic Hotel is beautiful where you can sit on the porch in a rocking chair looking at the lake . We went for our honey moon their 20 years ago , and we always go back when the Weather is Cool , from Mid October to 1st week of April , stay away from there during the Hot Humid Months of June to the 3rd week of October . Their is NO breeze and Super nasty Hot you can;t breathe , I know , I have lived in Flora -Dah for 70 years .
