I love how he politely, but firmly, corrects Representative Nunes about how to properly address him. Using a general honorific such as "Mr." or "Mrs." instead of a person's earned title or rank, especially in such a professional setting, is a subtle, but obvious sign of disrespect to the person being addressed. It's an attempt to delegitimize Lt. Col. Vindman's status as a war hero and American patriot, and thus call into question the legitimacy of his testimony. It's the type of cheap tactic these con men like to use to slowly and subconsciously erode the public's faith in their opponent, until they begin to doubt even their own senses.
Don't forget the career diplomat who testified first and opened the door for this to happen by deciding that the President had no legal right to stop her because a crime had been committed. Using a general honorific such as "Mr." or "Mrs." instead of a person's earned title or rank, especially in such a professional setting, is a subtle, but obvious sign of disrespect to the person being addressed. It's an attempt to delegitimize Lt. Col. Vindman's status as a war hero and American patriot, and thus call into question the legitimacy of his testimony. @@buckosoft I'm not so sure at this point. The tides are turning and some ppl are "waking" up. Especially the Veterans after the Lieutenants testimony. They have a way of coming together when one of their own is under fire as that is "UnAmerican". Soldoman, I'm not so sure about his testimony but I think it did shed some light that Pence and Barr are not as innocent of their lack of involvement as they'd claimed. It would appear NO ONE has any transparency in this situation.

It's easy - just like evangelicals still call themselves "Christians". It doesn't matter if it is the Constitution or the Bible - they not only know little about it, but they will "interpret" it any way they must to tell themselves that THEY are the "real Christians" or "real Americans" and everyone who disagrees with them is not.
The same way they call themselves religious while seeking modern medical aid rather than praying to their "almighty healer", or the "family value" party while maintaining stances against autonomous liberties, the "conservation" party while defending the proliferation of firearms designed as mass killing tools rather than hunting accessory, its called cognitive dissonance. There are very little differences between flat earthers, conspiracy theorists, religious right-winged and authoritarian "ultra-leftist", because beliefs acquired via dogmatic transmission(usually through an argument from authority) are wrong regardless of wether or not they coincide with the truth. The thing is that without a rudimentary understanding of logic, people often confuse the relation between a conclusion and its premises. And the reason why this isn't something that the American public wants to talk about is that this confusion of the "end justifies the means" is certainly not recognized as valid when directly formulated under this form, but it is intrinsically validated, sought after and encouraged in the relations of power established via their current economic model, capitalism.
Why is politics so polarized? Because it is still subjected to the polarization induced into it by virtue of being subjected to the economy. So long as politics remains a part of the economical game, it will remain a game of power rather than a tool for its just distribution aimed at cultural/social progress.
