I like the hyper speed tracking on this. When I composed this song on the Commodore 64, I never would have thought it would start living its own life it did ever since. This is a good conversion and on top of that, it's also respectful to the original! Kudos! =)
VinylCheese is using a common trick here. If you have drums on just noise channel they sound empty, but you can remedy this by using DPCM drums or (in this case) playing a pitch-descending note on the triangle channel at the same time as the noise drum, giving the drum sound a lot more depth.

He uses an offshoot of Famitracker called 0CC Famitracker.
That's actually the V effect. It's probably just his display of text that makes it look like a U.
