I love how 2025 is like the go to time placement for hyper futuristic setting in media, black ops 2,power rangers SPD, pacific rim,and now it’s our present
Glad to see you get to this season, 100% this one's my favorite. I have a bunch of nostalgia and love for Dino Thunder for being my first series, but SPD's writing, futuristic aesthetic, suit and mecha design, and intimidating foot soldiers and monsters really put it over the top for me. Now if only I could've won those Orange Head costumes from the Heritage Auction a few months back.
Just as a note : this series is one of the Power Rangers Series that borrows the heaviest from the Sentai. Altho, there's one very big difference : the main villains. Grumm and Omni are PR exclusives. In the Sentai, it's Broodwing (agent Abrera) who's the bad guy. And he's basically a weapons dealer who helps every side villain to get what they want for their plan if they promise to take out the rangers. And the finale is Broodwing's takeover of the command center.
12:30 one thing i really love about that episode that even the episode itself wants you to think bridge is crazy, right up until it's revealed that he's not. it's a great bit of writing because it's not just challenging the other rangers' peceptions of bridge. it's challenging the audience too. making the viewer take notice of their biases
34:49 I don't usually comment corrections like this, but this is actually a neat detail. The figure that came with the SPD battlizer had a gimmick where you clipped the battlizer parts on, but the base figure had some parts of it already molded on, so to make that base battlizer figure screen accurate, they made that half-battlized version of the red ranger into Mode 1.
It's more obvious in Tokosou Sentai Dekaranger as his name is Doggie Krueger, a dog from an alien planet. His transformed state is known as Deka Master and his theme "DEKA MASTER NEVER STOP!" is a banger and a half.
Fun fact the reason Matt Astin was cast in the role of bridge was because apparently he was the only one that was able to say Bridges lines without stumbling over them and apparently his little finger thing when he says “buttery” was a thing he added during rehearsals and they just kept it in.
Imagine a Ranger show where the initial team is fully beaten episode 1 and then episode 2 footsoldiers playing with the slightly busted morphers accidentally morph and cannot morph back, and then their bosses start hunting them down.
Personally, how I make sense of Syd and Z not getting promoted is that Green is just on the same level as Yellow and Pink in the team hierarchy; so there's nowhere for them to actually rank up to, they're equals. Blue is second in command so you can actually level up to that, but that's it.
the power rangers team very frequently make use of the 5-man band dynamic. especially in this season. which has the roles of Leader, Lancer, Brains, Brute, Heart. these can easily be applied to this team as Red Leader, Blue Lancer, Green Brains, Yellow Brute, Pink Heart. and much like in your example. Brains, Brute and Heart usually fall in the exact same place in the 5 man band dynamic, with the Lancer being the second in command as the foil to the Leader. so not only does it make sense for only one of those 3 to rank up, it kinda makes sense on why it's Bridge who becomes blue, since he's perhaps the member who behaves most like Sky's foil. it also leaves the position of brains open for when Sam eventually grows up and is promoted to B squad
So what I heard is that Disney put a budget on power rangers Omega had a human form as an actor they would have gone past their budget so they decided to make him ball light instead pay for actor
They do blame Sam being a ball of light on not having the budget to pay an actor. However, if they didn't give Kat an assistant to abuse, an assistant her Sentai counterpart, Swan, did not have, they could've probably afforded an actor for Sam. We'd lose Boom, but we'd gain a physical Sam.
Doggie krugger is the best power ranger mentor. He knew when to let them learn from there mistakes, and when ti step in to help only when absolutely necessary. Also taking down a 100 grunts all on his own is bad ass
Also, 1:00:19 they probably didn’t think this far ahead, but they kind of explained it in the comic book that Tommy’s son became the new green Ranger so bridge became the new blue Ranger. They even go as far to make sky commander with a new red Ranger form
37:02 i remember this two parter as the peak of the season, really developing the characters and such a heart wrenching storyline with a satisfying ending. Reflections so good
Great video as always Conner. One correction though.B squad's parents did help to create the SPD tech and powers but they weren't rangers exactly. They were just scientists who were developing them. The civilian powers came about as a result of an unforseen side effect with some gene enhancement. Not complaining just helping a fellow fan.
I'm so glad you enjoyed SPD, it was definitely my favorite of the Disney Era, and I was always hyped when it was getting to come on channel 7 on saturday.
Ah, now THIS one is what I've been waiting for. I remember watching SPD when i was younger and fully watched it last year, was still just as good as I remembered. Krueger as the Shadow Ranger was and still is my favorite ranger.
My favorite Power Rangers Season! I grew up with Dino Thunder and SPD. But SPD is my favorite till this day. It shows that Power Rangers can be funny and serious at the same time, withotu feeling odd.
Honor the waffle.I just want to say i'm a huge fan of you and I think what you're doing is so cool. Thank you because you are the person who made me back into liking Power rangers so that's the best decision i've ever made in my life. All I want to say is that to you?Keep on doing what you're doing 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Mystic Force was the final full season I watched before I stopped. I was I think a sophomore in high school at the time. Didn’t know that would be my last final season growing up. I’m sad about seeing your next video. That was when I started to “grow up”, not knowing I didn’t need to.
It would have been a cool crossover if it happened though because they get their powers different ways basically science versus magic spd's based around science mystic Force Morpher is based around magic
Just so you know, I noticed some OTHER Monster Suit parts that were Reused in S.P.D.! Also, I STILL can’t wait for you to do The WEIRD/BLAND World of Samurai, Megaforce and their SUPER Seasons!
1:03:34 I understand these videos take a ton of effort, but your next one is the one I have been WAITING FOR. Mystic force was my favorite season, even though I know I am pretty lonely in that opinion lol
Kruger NEVER said that the parents were Power Rangers. He said that all they worked at SPD. Sam didn't have "futuristic surgery". The time portal crystallized his body (or something similar) so that he couldn't de-morph, which means he can't use his civilian power. But it allowed him to turn into the ball of light.
SPD, Emergency! Crazy how it's been 20 years already. Also, this was the season where the just gave up naming things. The dog alien is named Anubis 'Doggie' Cruger, the cat alien is named Kat, the bird alien is named Birdie Fowler, the gorilla alien is named Sergeant Silverback, and all the episode titles are one word. Also, how did Sky not know A-Squad red was a girl? Did Kruger really not have A-Squad train B-Squad with anything? We see the B-Squad training recruits, so why not? Also, at the end, why does Bridge get promoted to blue at the end of the series but Z and Syd remain yellow and pink?
I’m pretty sure Bridge isn’t actually higher ranked than the other two prior to becoming the blue ranger. Red is the leader, blue is the second-in-command, and I assume yellow, pink, and green are identically ranked. As for not knowing that A-Squad is lead by a girl, for whatever reason A and B never seem to interact with each other, since A walking past them in the first episode is apparently the first time they had ever even been in the same room together. Also, I agree the names are REALLY on-the-nose this season, but at least a lot of them still sound kind of cool (Doggy Kruger and Kat at least - there is no context where you can take someone named “Birdie” seriously).
@@rokeYouuer The numbers are on the suits, red is 1, blue is 2, green is 3, yellow is 4, and pink is 5. I'm assuming the numbers correspond to rank, but I could be wrong.
@@thomaspunt2646 Not that I think they ever do it in the show, but I would assume the numbers only exist for them to sound off, since this is a more militaristic group and it's faster and feels more professional to rattle off "Ranger 1 . . . Ranger 2 . . . Ranger 3," etc. than it is for "Red Power Ranger . . . Blue Power Ranger . . . Green Power Ranger," etc.
i think SPD was the last Power Rangers i watched growing up. my friends stopped watching way before then so i had no one to talk with it about, loving your vides Conner these are like mini holidays for me lol.
I watched every single video multiple times and was watching the Dino Thunder one again when again when I was notified that the SPD one dropped and I was extreme excited!!
Loved this video, I too agree that Kat awoke something inside of me as well. I also think a good video idea would be to go over each PR and Sentai season and talk about what remains the same in both but mainly talk about the differences in both versions.
"We haven't had a tragic character like this since Magna Defender" Yes we have. Captain Mitchell, Lightspeed Rescue and Cole Evans, Wild Force. Both were handled differently, of course but both had tragic backstories.
Another excellent video! It's fun to get a little more appreciation and joy out of something I already love by hearing someone else describe it and what they like/don't. I'm looking forward to your next video. I watched the original MMPR when I started 6th grade and continued until after Adam came on, but 'grew out' of rangers before Zeo for a while.... UNTIL... I saw a TV commercial for Mystic Force and thought "Magic power rangers?! You gotta be F-ing kidding me!" and so I watched the first couple episodes and fell in love with Power Rangers again. It's not in my top 5, neither is SPD, but it has great story elements, messages, characters, enemy design.
Mystic forces is one of my favorite seasons but it's my third favorite though does that season has something that I don't totally agree with that's why it's not my top favorite
Fun fact: The SPD Battlizer was one of the few things that Japan used for their crossover movie with Dekaranger and Magiranger. So it’s one of the very few times Super Sentai used footage/props from Power Rangers (maybe even the only time, but I can’t remember)!😁
When I recently got back into the Power Rangers fandom, SPD was the second season I rewatched. This, behind Dino Thunder, was the season for me. Which, ironically, I found out only recently that the voice actor of the Omega Ranger has the same name as me. lol. And that guy also voiced a character in Ninja Storm as well.
The highlight of Power Rangers' Disney's era, especially when noticing how often it gets referenced in later series. Even then, when considering the overall futuristic theme, and how well done these particular seasons are, it's easy to see how Space, Time Force, and SPD are interconnected (but then again, the entire PR franchise is interconnected thanks to all the crossover episodes). The first series to break the power ranger number limit, feature an orange ranger, and, by western standards, holds the record for having the most rangers in one setting, 14 in all. There was no A-Squad in the Sentai version though. It's both interesting and ironic that A-Squad would use the Space Power Ranger helmets considering that season's well known for the Psycho Rangers... The Insomnia episode is actually good since it not only brings all the pieces of the plot together, but it also sets up the return of A-Squad, a big source of B--Squad's insecurities, as mentioned in a recent video on said episode. I described it like Sly 2. You find out about everything at once and how it all fits together, only to be met with a meh final boss... Also, I absolutely loved the dynamic between Jack and Sky, partly because they're the red and blue rangers (favorite colors).
I don’t know - up until Jungle Fury, which is the last season of Power Rangers I watched, I don’t think they ever really had a quirky female Ranger. They all tended to be either level headed or girly girls, but maybe some of the later seasons had more quirky girl rangers.
Definitely recommend looking at the behind the scenes videos in rangers tales on TH-cam they have for SPD the cast and crew talking about the fun they had as well as the difficulty of making so many aliens for this show on a shoestring budget.
the video in 2025 about the season set in 2025. perfection. anyway time for the imperfect stuff. this video literally just released so i physically can't know if connor will mention this, but it's important to mention so i'll say it anyway just to be sure: disney sucked! ground breaking revelation, i'm sure, but seriously. for as much of a tool as saban was, disney outshines him in many ways. i bring this up now, because this is when it started getting bad. the action was forced to be a lot less action packed, the budget was cut so much that they had to do more faithful adaptations of sentai plots as the season went on, and the showrunner had to fight with the higher ups just to make the red a-squad a girl. spd was still a great season, but it was an uphill battle for the show runners, and it's only gonna get worse. by the end of things rpm will literally only exist because the european distributors, jetex, had a contract that required at least one more season, and even that was such a mess the showrunner got fired halfway through the season.
Thank u for doing SPD! One of my all time favorites .. please do mystic force, was the last power rangers season I watched & still one of my favorites!

Funny fact: backed when Netflix add all the seasons, they actually put wormhole at the end after the final episode
I have literally been waiting thank you so much!
Also, did any of you notice the Front of Cole’s Savage Cycle in the Robot Wreckage in the 2nd Episode?
Wie now in,,2025 and No Aliens 😂
Mad respect for making the quirky one male for once
I don’t know - up until Jungle Fury, which is the last season of Power Rangers I watched, I don’t think they ever really had a quirky female Ranger. They all tended to be either level headed or girly girls, but maybe some of the later seasons had more quirky girl rangers.
The whole Disney era of Power Rangers was goated!
yep
Fun fact: The SPD Battlizer actually got used in the Sentai! It shows up in the Dekaranger vs Magiranger movie
I still have my spd red Ranger figure
Going to be honest, I WISH THIS WAS OUR 2025! Seems like humans are a bit more accepting and the police seem to be a bit more competent!
i have actually been sitting down to rewatch it to prepare for this.
Definitely recommend looking at the behind the scenes videos in rangers tales on TH-cam they have for SPD the cast and crew talking about the fun they had as well as the difficulty of making so many aliens for this show on a shoestring budget.
THE FAR OFF YEAR OF 2025!!!
I have a feeling you missed an episode where both the spd and omega megazords combine the first time
the video in 2025 about the season set in 2025. perfection.
anyway time for the imperfect stuff. this video literally just released so i physically can't know if connor will mention this, but it's important to mention so i'll say it anyway just to be sure: disney sucked!
ground breaking revelation, i'm sure, but seriously. for as much of a tool as saban was, disney outshines him in many ways.
i bring this up now, because this is when it started getting bad. the action was forced to be a lot less action packed, the budget was cut so much that they had to do more faithful adaptations of sentai plots as the season went on, and the showrunner had to fight with the higher ups just to make the red a-squad a girl.
spd was still a great season, but it was an uphill battle for the show runners, and it's only gonna get worse. by the end of things rpm will literally only exist because the european distributors, jetex, had a contract that required at least one more season, and even that was such a mess the showrunner got fired halfway through the season.
Happy 2025 New Years 🥺😥😔 By'
Conner, The Waffle, Power Rangers Channel
